48 /100 Ermou Spirits (Beer Store) ERMOU 90 Messy tight layout. A decent selection of local craft and macro brews, and a few big name international craft breweries (mikkeller, magic rock), but nothing exceptional. The best thing for us, that trip, was that it was 100m from our hotel, so we could always make sure we were topped up with enough ticks. Alas, some of it was damned expensive. 7e for a garbage mikkeller lager?!?! You probably don't /want/ to go there, but you probably do /need/ to, if you're the kind of person who needs beer. |
80 /100 Barley Cargo (Bar) KOLOKOTRONI 6 Proper beer-focussed bar, ticks all the boxes. Large place - a long bar down one side with a sizeable fridge nook at one end, and display bottles of beer down the opposite side, topped off with beer-themed furnature in between - repurposed kegs and crates, for example. Music playing at the right volume so that you can hear it if you like it and ignore it if you don't, and most of the time I liked it. Beer selection was excellent. something like 250 Greek bottled beers, and plenty of well-chosen internationals. Alas some were out, but that's because they were regular seasonal beers they usually would have, but that weren't made in 2021 because of CoViD, so exceptional circumstances. A separate take-away menu too, with lower prices. On tap, there was a christmas festival going on, so there were rotating specials, about half were greek and ticks, but the belgians were so damn tempting that we just quit ticking, I'm having my Gouden Carolus and St Bernardus Noels, thank you! Service was amazingly quick and efficient, friendly too, and the english spoken was tip-top. Food was wonderful - huge portions of meaty fare at really cheap prices. Absolutely world-class beer place, completely stomps on anything in the baltic states. This would probably be my local if I was local. Does get a little noisier as the evening progresses, but even when busy the service was tip-top. |
48 /100 Beans & Hops (Bar) IRAKLEIOU 43 AVENUE This is bit out of center, but you can take metro here. From metrostation it's like 300m walk or so. Weird place. No flights. Mainly macroish Czech (4 taps of Primator) stuff on tap, but crafty bottles in fridges too. Very bad English spoken. Would need convincing to go back there. |
74 /100 Berlin by 5 drunkmen (Bar) TIMOTHEOU 8, PAGRATI Now looking back to my trip I have to say it's a hidden gem in Athens. Serving real ale was massive bonus. Nice rock music playing. Not the most fluent English spoken, but we managed. Staff overall was friendly. They do serve flights, so that's another bonus. |
64 /100 FALIROU 86, KOUKAKI Easiest way to come here is probably by metro and then you walk a bit. Small room, not very cozy. It doesn't look like a brewery. They do flights. Prices not too bad, but not cheap as well. |
8 /100 beertime (Restaurant) IROON SQUARE 1 Just fck this place. Absolutely horrible service. Prices not as they are shown on menu. Beers themselves off and even more off. Service sizes do not make any sense (light lager 0.33l served, strong stuff can't be served under 0.4l?). Soulless tourist place. Avoid. |
78 /100 Barley Cargo (Bar) KOLOKOTRONI 6 Large place this is. They do flights and speak English quite well. Might get crowded at evenings. Food here is delicious and portions quite large. Must visit when in city. |
60 /100 Brew Str. (Beer Store) NIKIS 50 A Strange place for me, but cultures are different. Basically they have menu of beers on the wall and you can buy stuff. They also have benches outside so you can drink on site. No idea how the toilets work. No taps, only cans and bottles. Ok prices. |
82 /100 Tales of Ales (Beer Store) MILTIADOU 19 Not really a bottle shop 'cause they do taps as well. Most importantly they do flights. Owner is super cool guy. There are plenty of stuff in fridges too. Came back here twice and that says something. Highly recommended. |
70 /100 Barley Cargo (Bar) KOLOKOTRONI 6 Review from my visit Oct 2014 - A bar in the centre of Athens with a wide range of beers, 10 on draft & a list of hundreds in the bottle, with 50 + from Greek brewerys.. I didn't get around to seeing which they may or may not have..
|
88 /100 beertime (Restaurant) IROON SQUARE 1 Review from my visit Oct 2014 - This has to be my favourite beer bar in quite a while. It's been built with a lot of style, and the choice of beer may not be massive, but with 28 from Greek micro brews, plus another 40 from Germany, Belgium etc. I visited to try the local stuff, but there was plenty of the internationals that I hadn't tried in my years of drinking beer.
Worth noteing is there great value 2 for 1 offer happy hour deal on draft lagers, which were 3 Greeks, 2 Germans. This runs from 18:00 to 20:00, and even though arrived just before 20:00, they still offered it.
They also have a kitchen that serves great tasty food, and for the suffering girlfriends/wife's they can make a mean margirata!

90 /100 Ale Box (Homebrew Shop) DOIRANIS 36 KALLITHEA Great selection of ingredients and equipment in reasonable prices and with friendly and prompt service. Also sells some greek craft beers. |
80 /100 Beer Alley (Restaurant) SMIRNIS 10 Good selection of beers, with many guest kegs and cans coming and going. Rock tunes and industrial ambience on the inside give a classic feel. The food is up to par, the burgers are a must-try. |
58 /100 The Local Pub (Bar) CHAIMANTA 25, HALANDRI Rather overrated and not worth the travel outside of the center of Athens. |
54 /100 Oinoscent (Bar) 44A VOULIS STREET Quite disappointing to be honest as there's no taps and the selection of bottles are rather boring and overpriced. |
74 /100 Ermou Spirits (Beer Store) ERMOU 90 A liquor store located around the corner from Monastiraki square. Lots of wines and other booze, as well as a couple of fridges full of craft beer. One fridge dedicated to Greek macro, one to international craft beer and the last one, the one that's most interesting, dedicated to Greek craft beers. Prices are generally ok (on Greek craft), so you won't have troubles finding something to enjoy. |
70 /100 Barley Cargo (Bar) KOLOKOTRONI 6 Large place with lots of place inside in one of the streets in the old centre of Athens - walkable distance from Monatiraki square. Industrial, large and lacks some of the Greek feeling. Otherwise, a place that you'd frequent. |
70 /100 Tales of Ales (Beer Store) MILTIADOU 19 Located in one of the side streets not that far from Monastiraki square. What to say about the place. A small place with some tables outside where you can enjoy the beers purchased. I kind of dig the place. |
92 /100 Litharia 1927 (Restaurant) ACKROPOLEOS 39, NEO IRAKLEIO Really good restaurant with a high variety of beers. At its pros the nice steaks, different cuts and cattle varieties. Ask for bavette the flank steak and rib eye. Many beers from Europe and Greece. Prices are fair for the food and beer quality. |
60 /100 The Underdog (Bar) IRAKLIDON 8, THISEIO Not really sure why this place is on ratebeer, as it's mostly for coffee. Anyways, nice place if you're in the mood for rather expansive fancy coffee. |
62 /100 7 Food Sins Gastro Pub (Restaurant) PLATIA FILOMOUSOU ETERIAS 1 Interesting place for sure, but ridiculously overpriced. I'd say - stay away. |
60 /100 FALIROU 86, KOUKAKI Nice place but rather overpriced. |
58 /100 VinoBeeroteca (Bar) LEOF. POSIDONOS 29 An ok place if you might be close by and in the mood for a pint. |
70 /100 Barley Cargo (Bar) KOLOKOTRONI 6 Nice bar with a big selection of tap beer and bottles, but a bit overpriced in my opinion. |
92 /100 FALIROU 86, KOUKAKI A lovely tiny place at the very heart of Koukaki, Athens, and my new favorite spot. Nice selection of local and European beers, bottled and on tap. Good ambiance, good music, top class service, and an overall place with a character. The owners are really pleasant, talkable, knowledgeable and they surely love what they do. It's nice that the taproom culture is introduced to Greece, and that we get the chance to taste freshly brewed ales. Strange Brew is doing a great job. Thumbs up! |
52 /100 Athens Sports Bar (Bar) 3A WEIKOU STREET Open face to the street. Relatively long bar with bar stools. Quite a few tables and tables spread around the room. 4 x 42 inch TV sets behind the bar, other screens (did not count them) spread around the room. Unforthenately only 2 Greek uninteresting beers on tap but interesting bottles. Friendly staff. Price level surprisingly high. Snacks and light meals available. |
74 /100 PULP beer-coffee (Bar) VEIKOU 5 Had given up finding the place and went into Athens Sports Pub and saw Pulp actually being their neigbour. When I arrived the was only 1 guest sitting outside the pub. Dark wooden tables and high chairs outside. Inside also dark wooden furniture but I did not really look at it as I went straigt to the bar and ordered one of the Greek beers on tap. Ended up drinking a porter before I went back to my hotel. In the meantime I had a long chat with the friendly lady behind the bar and her husbond. They turned out to be the owners of the place. The bar room was quite cosy with a large amount of posters donated by guests. Nice music played at a sensible, high, but not too high level. I really liked the place. |
78 /100 Beer Alley (Restaurant) SMIRNIS 10 Nice atmosphere, good selection of beers but mainly belgian ones. Couple of guest beers on tap, some greek local ones too. |
60 /100 En Aithria (Restaurant) VRYOULON 4, NEA FILADELFEIA Nice place with small selection of beers though. Some local and some belgian ones. I'd like to see at least the best greek ones to be added to the menu. |
54 /100 E and O Athens (Bar) 385 SYNGROU AVE A superb rooftop view, a nice selection of Greek beer in bottles and on tap with decent service and great food. |
100 /100 Beans & Hops (Bar) IRAKLEIOU 43 AVENUE A nice place where you can find some of the best and rare beers. Great music also. |
100 /100 FALIROU 86 Must visit place for craft beer lovers in athens! |
68 /100 Brew Str. (Beer Store) NIKIS 50 A Stopped here on a cruise and saw Grumbo had visited. Decent selection for a smaller size bottle shop. A lot of Greek craft beers offered, some Swedish and Danish too. Very nice staff. Worth a stop if your in the shopping district. |
100 /100 Tales of Ales (Beer Store) MILTIADOU 19 Great place, great energy, large selection |
70 /100 Arch Beer House (Bar) ETHNIKIS ANTISTASEOS 91, PERISTERI A lovely place with great service and a nice selection of beers. |
62 /100 beertime (Restaurant) IROON SQUARE 1 Fair selection, interesting location and the happy hour is quite fair but the local beers they have on tap are just terrible. |
