56 /100 Kachelofen (Restaurant) OBERE SANDSTRASSE 1 Quick and professional service, limited beer menu. Nice environment. |
76 /100 Schlenkerla (Restaurant) DOMINIKANER STRASSE 6 Beautiful environment. Biergarten filled with old, young, locals, tourists. A must when in Bamberg. Not all variances are available. A bit disappointing. 5-9-21. |
54 /100 ZOLLNERSTR. 24 Quiet when I visited. Selling own brew and destilled. Friendly shy personel. Bought some own brews. 5-9-21. |
76 /100 Gänstaller (Beer Store) HAFENSTR. 37 Ordered from their online shop in August 2021. Shipping was fast, about 2 days after my order the package was sent and has arrived safely and well packed. Good website, easy to navigate, order and payment process the same as many other websites (Mikkeller, Yankee&Kraut, Hoppebräu etc.). Selection is Gänstaller only, however I was able to order their whole range (even their Onyx Imperial Stout!). Shipping is quite expensive (about 9 EUR), but the prices for their exceptional beers are very reasonable. Would order again. |
58 /100 LANGE STR. 46 Visited 05.08.21. Around four of their own beers on draught. Exceptionally slow service - I had to find the waiter to order my beer and I had to make an effort to pay. The beer is good though. |
74 /100 Zapfhahn (Bar) UNTERE SANDSTRASSE 14 Visited 05.08.21. Five regular beers on tap and one rotating. They also have a good selection of bottled beer. All of which are traditional German. Friendly service. A bit away from the main tourist track. |
58 /100 Kachelofen (Restaurant) OBERE SANDSTRASSE 1 Visited 05.08.21. In the middle of the Bamberg tourist track. Four local beers on tap and the same in bottles. Efficient service. |
76 /100 Schlenkerla (Restaurant) DOMINIKANER STRASSE 6 Visited 03.08.21. Two of their own smoked beers on draught and two in bottles. A Bamberg institution! Solid traditional German food served until 10 pm. Many rooms with seating indoors. |
50 /100 LANGE STR. 46 New and clean. Traditionel styles for the region. Marzen, Export and zwickl. Clean but fairly bland. A busy waitor who was a little snappy and bothered that we asked for 0,25cl beers. Easy to reach but dont go unless you have more than a week the city. So much better beer around. |
84 /100 Der Pelikan (Bar) UNTERE SANDSTRASSE 45 2nd visit. Zehendner and Heckel Vollbier on tap in good condition. Lovely charming beer garden. Friendly service. Amazing Thai cuisine. Red curry and panang. Superb. Will come back more often. Located 5 min from Schlenkerla |
70 /100 Weyermann Fan Shop (Beer Store) BRENNERSTRASSE 17-19 Fun little stop right next to the factory. Most of their own beers were also available at the nearby Rewe, but as mentioned by others there’s also a shelf of brews from Weyermann “customers”, including a couple breweries I hadn’t seen anywhere in Germany before. Good source for beer paraphernalia. The very friendly service gifted us a couple of free bottles. |
68 /100 Hotel-Gasthof Wilde Rose (Restaurant) KESSLERSTRASSE 7 Did stay at the hotel one year. |
70 /100 Weinstube Pizzini (Bar) OBERE SANDSTRASSE 17 Visited many times. |
72 /100 Stöhrenkeller (Bar) OBERER STEPHANSBERG 11 Visited many times. |
68 /100 Brauerei Spezial (Restaurant) OBERE KÖNIGSTRASSE 10 Visited many times. |
68 /100 Greifenklau (Restaurant) LAURENZIPLATZ 20 Visited many times. |
80 /100 Die Bierothek® - Online Shop (Internet-based) HAFENSTR. 13 Nice selection of local Frankische Brauereinen and other German breweries. Fast shipping, good packaging. Good webshop to order from. |
72 /100 Eckerts (Restaurant) OBERE MÜHLBRÜCKE 9 Visited July 2019. |
(Besucht 8.4.2021.) |
80 /100 Mahr’s Bräu (Restaurant) WUNDERBURG 10 Visited in November 2019. Lovely to visit such an atmospheric place that happens to brew great beers too. Was quiet when I visited but I sensed it being a cosy place during quiet times and a lively place during busier times. The fact it is opposite Keesmann is a welcome bonus! Beer heaven would look something like this. |
82 /100 Gänstaller (Beer Store) HAFENSTR. 37 This review is for the online store. I placed an online beer order from here February 2021, with a glass. Easy to navigate webshop, good prices, and some glassware also available, all items are cans which I guess is quite unusual for a Franconian brewery. I picked up a selection of 6-7 beers, all different styles and some not quite what you would imagine for such a traditional region. Prices were very good, goods arrived within a working week *I suspect that they may have arrived earlier but I think that I ordered on a Friday. Extremely well packaged, nice little signed postcard from the brewery owners and a few beermats thrown in. Very impressed and based on previous ratings for their beers I suspect that this may be the first of many orders. |
96 /100 Schlenkerla (Restaurant) DOMINIKANER STRASSE 6 Królestwo wędzonego piwa i tradycyjnej kuchni w cudownym historycznym otoczeniu Bambergu. |
100 /100 Schlenkerla (Restaurant) DOMINIKANER STRASSE 6 A magical place with smoked beers and Bavarian cuisine |
86 /100 Brauerei Spezial (Restaurant) OBERE KÖNIGSTRASSE 10 Beer type like in Schlenkerla. Place is small with long tables. They have also a classic pilsner and that could be important for someone. Good food! |
86 /100 Schlenkerla (Restaurant) DOMINIKANER STRASSE 6 That is crazy for me! Smoked beer ? I live in Berlin but i tried smoked beer first time. Is a little bit wird but could taste well. Restaurant has a little garden and traditional interior. Tasty German food. |
68 /100 Kachelofen (Restaurant) OBERE SANDSTRASSE 1 Visited just before they were about to close. They were kind enough to let us have some wursts from the place down the road cause everything else was closed for food. Had a decent Fassla Weizla. 4 taps sounds about right. Wouldn't say it's a must visit, but was very handy for a last drink before hotel. |
74 /100 Brauerei Keesmann (Restaurant) WUNDERBURG 5 Located just across the Mahr's. We've visited later in the evening and the place was quite full. Solid selection of 4 to 5 beers with decent quality. If you're in the area worth checking out. |
68 /100 Mahr’s Bräu (Restaurant) WUNDERBURG 10 Visited later in the evening. Large and a bit dark biergarten with what seemed like a lots of room inside (not used due to the pandemic situation). Selection was limited to 4 beers, but the quality was bit disappointing. Especially after walking for about 20 minutes to it. |
80 /100 Brauerei Spezial (Restaurant) OBERE KÖNIGSTRASSE 10 Visited in the evening, we were lucky enough to find a place in biergarten. Efficient services. Selection is limited to 4 beers, but the quality is very good to excellent. Loved their Ungespundet. Well worth checking out. |
76 /100 Die Bierothek® Bamberg (Beer Store) UNTERE KOENIGSTRASSE 1 Medium sized store located in the town center. Neat store with 3 or 4 fridges in the back. Solid mix of German traditional beers and some modern styles from newer breweries. Also decent selection of imports, however in the age of webshops prices are just too high. Service seemed friendly enough and we got expired barley wine for free. Worth checking out, we scored few interesting beers. |
64 /100 Brauerei Fässla (Restaurant) OBERE KÖNIGSSTRASSE 19 Visited in the early evening. We were seated in the small biergarten, but in normal circumstances there seem to be plenty of room to seat inside. We were seated next to the friendly local. Smoking is allowed in the biergarten which wasn't a plus for us. Beer selection was limited to two beer neither of which was particularly good. One of the classics in Bamberg I guess, but wasn't that thrilled. |
66 /100 Wilde Rose Keller (Restaurant) OBERER STEPHANSBERG 49 Huge but still crowded beergarden (on a summer evening). There are lots of old trees that divide the area a little bit, so it doesn't feel like oktoberfest 2.0. Prices were not so high. Beer was good. Nothing wrong with coming here. |
76 /100 Greifenklau (Restaurant) LAURENZIPLATZ 20 Nice beergarden in the summer. Food is good. A bit expensive but nevertheless worth visiting. I was a bit surprised finding 0.3l on the menu but it turned out to be just a badly poured 0.5l. |
62 /100 REWE (Beer Store) PÖDELDORFER STR. 3A Close to the railway station and Weyermann. Wide portfolio of regional and local beers ad affordable prices. Limited number of craft beers. Worth a visit for stocking up. |
56 /100 Zapfhahn (Bar) UNTERE SANDSTRASSE 14 250M down the road from Schlenkerla. A bit more options than the average Bamberg bar besides of Abseits. But most in bottles which is meaningless since kellerbier needs to be drank fresh. Hummel, Griess, etc which is cool, but take time out your calendar and cruise a little out of the city and drink them fresh at the brewery. |
70 /100 Fristo (Beer Store) PÖDELDORFER STRASSE 144 Good spot to collect some of the regional beers. Large selection. Easy to reach. |
64 /100 REWE (Beer Store) PÖDELDORFER STR. 3A Very good selection of regional beers at good prices. By no means a craft location, you‘ll be loading up on the traditional styles, but still a must if your passing through the area. |
76 /100 Die Bierothek® Bamberg (Beer Store) UNTERE KOENIGSTRASSE 1 Centrally located in Bamberg. About the same size as the one I know in Frankfurt. Good selection of craft and regional brews, although the latter are probably found cheaper elsewhere. Service was friendly. The noon opening hour prevented me from hitting the shop on the day we left town. |
68 /100 Café Abseits (Bar) PÖDELDORFER STRASSE 39 Sat out in the Biergarten on a Monday night. Every table but the one we took was full, although in the time of Covid-19 that doesn’t take more than about 10 parties. A few local beers were on tap, but nothing you wouldn’t find in a dozen other places. The bottle selection was more interesting, including a few from smaller, regional breweries. On tap of that were a few Belgian classics: Rochefort, Chimay and so on.
Picked up a couple ticks. A decent stop but by no means a must. Service was friendly and reasonably attentive. |
68 /100 Mahr’s Bräu (Restaurant) WUNDERBURG 10 Visited on a Monday night at about 7 and were lucky to get a spot in the Biergarten without having to queue up. Shortly after our arrival, there was pretty much permanently a line. Did not eat but drank two beers, the Helles and a Pils, both of which were far above average for the style and pleasant drinking on a warm summer evening. Service was friendly if a bit inattentive. |
