Bend South Liquor (Beer Store)
61153 S. HIGHWAY 97
“This is a gem of a beer store. Many singles available, both local and more distant, all stored in a cooler! When I was there a few days ago they had beers from Weldwerks (CO), Aslin and Adroit Theory (VA), Drekker (ND), and Double Nickel (NJ), among many others. They have a very knowledgeable person (maybe the owner) who really know his beers and breweries. If you are in the vicinity of Bend, OR, this place is a must visit.“

“This place was an awesome location to hang out and stay. An old catholic school that was turned into multiple bars and wings of a hotel, a big restaurant at the front, a theater, and the soaking pool of all soaking pools. As others have said, the beer and food were solid, but nothing exceptional. There were plenty to choose from, lots of house made beers and even house made spirits. The service was great though, and it felt nice to be inside. A cool spot in a cool beer town.“

“A large and open pizza shop offering dine in or take out and a rotating craft beer selection. I stopped in only for beer but the pizzas looked and smelled great. The bar tender was helpful and pleasant.“

“A large brewpub with somewhat cramped bar seating but with a to-go counter and ample traditional restaurant seating. They offer flights of either their core beers or their seasonal offerings, 6 beers in a flight. I had the Brussels Sprouts appetizer which had Kung Pao seasoning and pork belly - it was very good. The beers were all solid and the service really good.“

“In the heart of downtown Bend, with loads of indoor and outdoor seating, with a visible upstairs brewhouse and a very typical brewpub feel. Service was good, but a little inattentive and likely didn't know the beer that great, probably just there for a job. Selection was decent, variable styles and everything I tried was pretty solid. An old school vibe, but its been there a while, so it has charm.“

“The spot is very cool, woodsy and almost hillbilly of the northwest vibe, with multiple different seating areas. Service was good, friendly and knew the beer pretty well. Selection was large and varied, withe the beer being middle of the road, not great but not horrible. It's another brewery in Bend that you may not have been to yet.“

“The new pub with actual seating, a couple bars, a great patio, and a kitchen to boot. It follows what you would expect from the Boneyard aesthetic, lots of metal and concrete with some motorcycle and tattoo type art. Service is solid, but its counter style then bring the number to your table, so makes you feels pressured. Selection is solid, lots of taps that run all the styles, plus guest selections and even CBD colas. Great that they have a place you can actually hang out now!“

“This place is really well put together, with lots of wood inside and accents to make you feel like you are in an authentic Belgian brasserie, including Gregorian chants in the bathroom. A great view of the river from the back porch is gonna make this place amazing in the summer time. Service was great, a little flustered as they had just opened and the computer system was still out of sorts, but nice and there with suggestions. Food was awesome, authentic to Europe, not necessarily Belgium all the way though. Beer was all great, well done and ran the gambit on the Belgian styles. This place is up there as one of the best in Bend, in my opinion.“

“Old Church building over Platypus bar. Definitely one of the better coolers in Bend by selection and very clearly arranged by style and region. Also, home brew supplies galore. Helpful staff. Definitely a nevermiss whenever I'm in Bend.“

“This super small tasting room and barrelstore is located just outside the main town centre area, but close to the cool locals hangouts like Cascade West. I called in after dropping off my rented mountain bike over the road. Hidden a little behind some units, but its a cosy place with a handful of sour / mixed ferm enthusiasts sipping away. 4 beers on draft, plus one rare 10.4% El Cuatro on cask conditioned hand-pull and two 75cl bottles opened for samples. Lady serving was super talkative and helpful. Beers were great, but the 75cls for takeout were a little out of my price range. Definitely a must-visit for sour heads in the area.“

“Smart looking place in the centre of Bend that seems as much of a family restaurant / bar as a brewpub tap, certainly a couple of mid-30s birthdays and suited-up groups on the back lawn taking advantage of the wine and cocktails list as much as the outdoor bar serving six Bend beers. Nice sunny day for it, and this outdoor area overlooking the river is big draw especially for dog owners. We found a table on the patio running along the outside of the bar and made it for happy hour half-price apps, so got some very nice sweet potato waffle fries, a flight of 6 and a glass of Californian champagne, bizarrely served in a large stemless wine glass. Overall, I like the feel of this place, its quite heavy on their modern branding which is splashed everywhere, but merch is high quality, food is good and beer is decent, though nothing too adventurous or high strength.“

“Yeah I can see why this is the top place in Bend. I wasn't sure at first as only really their unexciting core range gets distributed in the UK. But the rarer stuff here doesn't half get the blood going. As mentioned by others, it's as much a restaurant / business lunch venue option as it is a brewpub.. certainly the menu caters to both, and on entering it would seem the staff are keen to guide you to the area that suits, the smart dining tables, or the divey, sports-TV brewpub room which we felt more comfortable in. Not even midday on our visit and was already pumpin in here. I got a few brandy glass 4 oz pours, and all were decent. The bottle list had some choice barrel-aged rarities, all with a fair price. I didn't actually realise Deschutes made cider, so got a bottle of their wild-fermented Piquante Pomme, which was super wild, funky and complex. Also check out their hand-pulled cask conditioned bitter, often with various infusions, such as Juniper this time. Service spot on, and quick. If I'd had another day in Bend I'd probably call in here again.“

“Big modern looking place that sticks out in the middle of an otherwise drab industrial warehouse area outside the main town centre. First thing that struck me was the sheer amount of people in the lawn out front, lots of families, lots of 20-somethings gathered around picnic tables, large queue for the taco stand (we were told these were excellent but couldn't stay). By the sounds of it this huge crowd is normal here. Definitely wish we'd called by here earlier and spent an hour working through the tap list. Unfortunately I could only grab a couple of take-outs from the fridge, the price point for the tempting wax-sealed brett BA options were unfortunately not an option, so I got a couple of their standard range. Yeah, this is a popular place, enough to rival Bend Brewing Co in town.“

“In a strip mall kind of place called the box factory. Everything in this place looks like it was built about a week ago. The bar and seating area are fine with a nice roll up window that was open to let the breeze in. Very sterile chain restaurant environment. About 15 beers on tap and I got a sampler of 5 with 5oz each for $10 which is not bad. I had the fish and chips which were pretty good. 2 big pieces of cod and fries that were not too greasy. The beers were kind of plain and nothing really stood out. Of the 5 I had only 1 is listed on this site and I don't feel like adding the others.“

“Small place for Bend but they do have a nice lawn that goes right down to the Deschutes. There was a band setting up to play when I got there and it looked like this was a place for locals instead of tourist as there were many families with kids and a ton of dogs. Only 4 beers on tap which was kind of odd. The one beer I had here was just o.k. but the view made up for it.“

“Better restaurant than brewpub. Legit food and decent beer but there wasn't that much on draft that they don't distribute broadly. Did have some interesting bottles. Worth a stop but would go somewhere else after as Bend has some good breweries.“

“I visited this place only to buy some beers to be enjoyed later. All beers in cold. Most of the beers were bombers or some quite expensive (rare) stuff. No 12 oz singles. Unfortunately for me it wasn't the kind of place I was looking for so left empty handed.“

“I visited this place without the family to be able to focus on the beers. And the beers were tasty. I had a flight of 6 beers. They really can brew IPAs. They had 12 of their own brews on tap plus 5 guest taps. I have had better service though. Plenty of parking space next to the brewery. “

2015 rate:
Nice place. They didn’t have that many new beers after visiting the brewery but it didn’t matter as they have some pretty nice core brews. There was room at the bar on a Saturday evening. We didn’t eat. Would visit again.
2018 update:
This time we ate, and I'm glad we did. Very tasty food. Friendly service and it's kid friendly as well. The beer menu is pretty awesome. Flights of 5 available. They also have some of their bigger beers (Dissident series, Reserve series, Black Butte vintages, Abyss variants and vintages) on the take away menu.“

2015 rate:
Not the nicest location but it was closest to our accommodation so we decided to end our Bend ale trail here. Saturday night and the bar was less than half full. Live band, decent music. Surprisingly good beers and great service. I admit I might have been a bit tipsy by the time I finished the last beer but my designated walker bolstered my images.
2018 update:
They have had the place remodelled. Looks nice. The beers were tasty. 14 beers on tap. Flight of 5 available ($8). Nothing to complain really.“

2015 rate:
It’s all said here already. Very small room with fridges, merchandise and 5 taps. Only samples - $1 each, first free. Busy on a Saturday afternoon.
2018 update:
They have remodelled the taproom. It's still small but feels a bit bigger. Really friendly place. 9 taps. Just great beers. And it's kid friendly although it can be very busy.“

“went here today as i had earlier tasted their beers in cans in Salem. Took me a while to find it in an ofice/industrial area..but I m used to that coming from Salem were all our breweries are hidden away in those type areas. Approached just after opening time at 3 PM..already 8-10 people sampling the beer. I just had the Samaritan Saison as i didnt want to overdo when i had to drive..best saison i have had in some time. Definatly top 1% of American saisons. Guy behind the bar was fantastic, veru enthusiastic and very welcoming. Will return for more when not driving!“

“Nice little comfortable brewpub/sports bar. Went for a late lunch ( around 2 PM Tuesday)..was perhaps a dozen people. I sat at the bar. Server was awesome..nice guy . Ordered their pilsner and it was OK for an American attempt at the style. Grilled chicken "sando" ( i felt self conscious saying that) was good and a big bit of chicken breast. I ordred it with coleslaw which was also good. Nice atmosphere in here after a while seemed to fill up with locals which i like to see. I would return.“

“Visited early Sunday afternoon. The 10 beer sampler was good value and offered the chance to try most of the varied selection of 15 beers.on tap. The only criticism is that it excluded the Silver award winner, the fresh hop and the flagship IPA. Service was very good even though it was busy.“

“Pulled up on a Thursday in the afternoon and this place was a zoo. 100+ people out side, cars parked everywhere. If it wasn’t for my wife, who I told to turn around, I wouldn’t have made it. This was in my top 5 to visit on my trip. We finally found a parking spot and boom, we walk in and immediately grab 2 seats at the bar that opened just as we walked in. Despite the mad house, the Bar Tender gave us great service and I drank great beers here. Great bottles available to go too ... great place.“

“Visited on a friday evening. Fairly large place, good crowded atmosphere. A bit loud, but not too much. We sat at the bar and started with a nice seasonal Golden and some nice pizzas. Nice beer menu of Deschutes classics, seasonals and some specials (Abyss Scotch was available). Flights are also an option. Friendly bartender inquired about our travel plans and offered some suggestions. We enjoyed our evening at Deschutes in Bend.“

“Had long lunch and several beers here. Most of the action was going on outside due to some unseasonably warm weather, but we stayed inside. Broad selection of Crux beers and a small but interesting food menu. Pleasant service and a neat space to spend some time in. My largest complaint is that the seating was uncomfortable.“

“A nice surprise, good food and better beer. Smaller in size, so it can get crowded. Beer menu spans a variety of styles. Small menu is also suitable to many palates. Much better than expected. Only knock is that there didnt’ seem to be enough servers. I wanted another beer, but server was too busy“
