“Visited late on a Monday morning. Place was, predictably, dead. Atmosphere was real laid back, casual. About a dozen beers on tap. Both of the ones I tried were quite decent. Overall, a decent stop and an easy one since there’s so much in this area. Service was friendly.“

“Visit over lunch early on a Sunday afternoon. We took our place at the bar and were quickly served by the friendly staff. About a dozen taps were running. 4 oz flights are available for $8. Beer was good but nothing unexceptional. Ambience was pleasant. They don’t serve food but allow you to bring in whatever you want. The sushi taco restaurant next door was excellent.“

“Amazing place right in the heart of Birmingham. Perhaps two dozen taps and shelves and shelves of beer. Most of the focus is on regional beer, particularly Alabama, Georgia and Florida. However there’s stuff from all over the U.S. and a decent international collection, particularly from Belgium. It’s interesting to find a Belgian beers on a shelf in Birmingham that are impossible to find in most regions of Germany. Apart from that fact, no great rarities that I saw, but the depth is impressive. A must visit if passing through Birmingham.“

“Another must-stop (along with TrimTab) if you're in the B. A good selection with a massive draft list to boot. Staff is fine, but you're coming for the beer anyway, especially in an otherwise Twilight Zone.“

“Interior is rather open, but seems cozy near the main bar. They have a ping-pong table if you're interested in a game. Their selection is expensive and varied - they don't have 17 variations on an IPA, but a few sours, a few dark beers, a few pale ales. Servers are alert and friendly, but still efficient. There's not a bad beer in the bunch. Choo-choo in for a pint or two, or a flight - and grab a six- or four-pack to take home.“

“This is a fun place with a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Large tasting room has eclectic furniture and art so you can choose how as well as where to sit. Tapsters make you feel welcome and treat you as an individual even when the place is busy. Beers are good, too. A must if you live in or near Birmingham.“

“A fairly new microbrewery that is worth visiting and supporting. They have at least eight beers on tap, all good. Interior is cozy but not cramped, servers make you feel welcome, TVs are not intrusive - though they may get turned up for a major sports event. Lack of signage can make the place hard to spot, but it is worth finding.“

“In a pretty nice neighbourhood (for Birmingham), this is a fun tasting room. A dozen or so taps, with flights of 4 available for $12, rather high. Beer quality was pretty medicore, with nothing much standing out. Nonchalant, non-caring service. Okay stop.“

“Just outside the city centre, this is a good looking place, with a warehouse-like tasting room. A dozen or so taps, with 1/4 pints (4 oz pours) available for $3-4, so a flight of 5 ends up being a whopping $16. Hoppy beers were improperly constructed, and the other two we tried were passable - overall, pretty weak beer quality. Service was nonchalant, but pleasant. There was a taco truck parked out front if you need food.“

“Visited later in the evening on a Friday. Easy to find near UAB and downtown, right across the street from the Baseball Stadium. There are 4 parking spots out front plus street parking all around the area (though I imagine this would be tough during a baseball game. The brewery is huge and open, with patio seating out front, a large deck of the side, and a ton of space to sit and hang out indoors. I really liked the look of the place. Beer selection is 6 or so core beers plus 5 seasonals. There are also a bunch of 750 bottles and cans available to go. The night I visited, they had a Taco Truck that was fantastic. Overall, enjoyed my visit.

“Interior is a bit cramped, but if you can find space, great. Servers are alert, friendly and helpful. Their beers are quite good - try a flight or two! I've had their stuff on tap and from bottles, and every brew is worthy. Trunks up!“

“Clearly one of the top 3 breweries in Birmingham The place has great atmosphere. The inside bar is dark wood with high ceilings (old industrial type building) with the brewing equipment mostly visible. There is a large outside patio area...more like a yard...big enough for a decent size stage too. They have some bands of regional to national note (Government Mule was advertised as coming soon). They also own a separate sours location out the back and across the parking lot in a different set of buildings (closed when we visited or we would definitely have checked it out). As for the beers...I had a flight of 6 of their 12...and enjoyed the Battlefield IPA, Vanillaphant Porter, Warning Shot DIPA, Spring Street Saison, and Train Hopper Pale Ale. I’d like to come back here when they are having an event...especially in the warm weather when the outside is being used. This looks like a fun place...and we enjoyed our visit and especially the beer. Definitely a must visit if passing through Birmingham.“

“visited May 3rd 2016. Very spacious with a nice outdoor area, but we hung out at the bar, of course, and ordered tasting flights. Beer is decent - plenty of seasonal and experimental brews and staff was really friendly. This was our last stop in Birmingham and I left the city all teary-eyed. A beautiful scene with great vibes. Definitely a place to watch.“

“Visited 3.5.16 in the afternoon. That’s pretty much the standard in Birmingham - large space, bricks, friendliness, a bunch of taps of various styles and varied quality. It’s a good thing, right? We really enjoyed spending time there. There’s a pretty big beergarden outside, as far as I recall, but we sat inside, right by the taps. Flights available. Don’t think they serve food over there, but if there isn’t a food truck in sight, go to Melt next door.“

“Visited 3.5.16 during the day. A downtown place, pretty huge. Serves cocktails and food and beer - also local and southern on tap - and caters to to people who work in the area during the day. Cool old school video games in the back, pub grub. A nice place to visit when you’re downtown.“

“Visited 2.5.16 at night. Beautiful and vast place with small elements that differentiate the design from other taprooms - loved the hop cone lamps and the wooden sculpture of the map of AL. Plenty of beer on tap - we sampled 9. Beer ranges from mediocre to exceptional. Service good and informative - directed us to other places in town. We loved the place and were sad to leave. One of our favourite places in a newly favourite city.“

“Had time to visit 2 breweries while passing thru Birmingham this past 4th of July...after stopping first at the great "Good People Brewery"...this was my second choice based on the reviews and suggestions of staff and patrons at Good People. Overall I enjoyed the visit here...the taproom is large and open and there are outdoor spaces in the form of a back patio and front alley (although too hot out to enjoy either of those when I visited). The décor was fine...nothing really special (nice open view of the brewery if the garage door to the back patio is open)...staff was accommodating. As for the beer...average...to a couple above average...but nothing to write home about...or make a special stop for...again...I was here because I really came to visit Good People (don’t miss that one). Nothing really negative about Trim Tab...and I’m sure I’d visit from time to time if I lived locally...but if you are passing thru Birmingham...this is not a must stop.“

“Unpretentious and welcoming, they have plenty of seating inside and out - though parking may be a problem. They don’t have any food, but food trucks stop by often. They serve only a few beers at a time, but they are good to excellent. Servers are alert and helpful. After sampling a few, take home some cans!“

“Good People is the must brewery to visit while in Birmingham. The place is big and well constructed...recently expanded I understand too. The best thing (or at least close 2nd to the beer) is that the people there really are "good"...actually great! Michelle and Erin took care of me this past 4th of July. I arrived right at opening and was pretty much able to enjoy my first hour there just conversing with the two wonderful ladies about the beer...about the brewery...and best of all...about a whole lot of other topics. I tried all 9 beers and the standouts for me were the IPA, Pale, Brown (and that’s saying a lot as that’s a style I usually don’t prefer), Coffee Oatmeal Stout and the not to be missed "Snakehandler" Double IPA. All in all...a great brewery and a great visit on a beautiful, hot, lazy, 4th of July afternoon. Thanks Michelle and Erin!“

“The best of Birmingham. Located opposite the baron’s baseball ground, this place can get packed on game days. Huge inside area with brewing on display. Small stand in the corner advertising merchandise. Regular supported by food trucks outside. A Birmingham must.“

“If you want to drink Avondale beer while you eat good pizza, this is your place. If you want other varieties of beer...keep driving. This place is next door to Avondale brewing so it’s convenient to grab a quick bite while at the brewery. Parking can be a little tricky at popular times.“

“Top notch spot quite close to the centre of Birmingham (but on the "wrong side of the tracks") in a light industrial building. Very much a bar in a brewery. Decent line up of very solid beers served by chatty and enthusiastic staff. Good People indeed. So convivial that we ended up staying here much longer than intended (and ensured that we were three sheets to the wind by the time we reached J Clyde). We got some free food that was left over froma catered event but I don’t think they serve food otherwise. Essential stop in Birmingham.“

“Visited in February 2014. Classic brewery tap room - by which I mean obviously a bar in a brewery but with a comfortable, homely feel - in a run down part of town that seemed to be showing signs of some slightly Bohemian regeneration and gentrification. We pitched up and parked right outside just after doors opened. About 15 of their beers on tap. They offered a couple of samplers that didn’t cover all the beers so I just said I wanted to try everything and they had no problem in sorting that out for me. The beers were mainly solid if no worldbeaters. Easily fell into conversaton with friendly locals. Well worth a visit. Provided me with more than half my total Alabama ticks accrued over a day and a bit.“

“If you are buying beer the customer service is good. If you are in their brewing supply section, which seems to be an afterthought to the rest of the store, the story changes. It’s like you are bothering them to ask for supplies. I’ll keep buying beer here but I will definitely buy my homebrew supplies online or from Alabrew. At Alabrew the owners take the time to talk with you about the craft and help you make decisions. Northern Brewer is another great, knowledgeable place to get supplies from.“

“Visited on a Saturday around noon. Really nice bar/beer store. Probably 50 beers on tap or so, with a really nice local selection. A large selection of bottled beer as well. One downside I saw was that singles weren’t available (apart from bombers), but that may have more to do with Alabama regulations. I will definitely come back if I am in Birmingham again.“

“Visited on a weekend right after opening time. Located on the southern edge of downtown Birmingham, across the street from the new Legions Field. Medium sized, open, warehouse style brewery. Open feel to the space with a nice long bar. Around 10 beers on tap when I visited. Beer available in pint, 1/2 pint, and 1/4 pint sizes. Sampler sizes (1/4 pint) offered for $2 (some higher alcohol stuff for $3). While nice that you can get smaller servings, it can get expensive if you want to try everything on tap. Service was very friendly. Beers were mostly above average to pretty good. My favorite brewery in Alabama thus far in terms of beer quality. Nice location, good beers, a definite visit if you’re in Birmingham“

“We made the impromptu decision when leaving Atlanta to make our way to Tennessee through Alabama, and Birmingham made sense to stop as it’s pretty much due south from Nashville, our next destination.

Pretty cool location in what I guess is sort of near the center of Birmingham, though sort of south of what I guess is downtown. Anyway, large warehouse type building just across the street from the ballpark. Very open, high ceilings, cool view of the brewhouse from inside the tasting room. Plenty of places to sit and/or stand and drink some beers.

The service was great from the young lady working the bar when we arrived (admittedly, just after opening). On tap were the four year round offerings and a handful of seasonals/small batches. They do individual tasters of everything--no set flights--and things run from about $2 - $3 depending on what you get. A little pricey for what I encountered in the South, but on par with what I’m used to.

In all, the beers were pretty good and I didn’t really dislike any of them, some were even quite good, like their coffee porter and a few of the seasonals.“

“We usually come here for the great pizza, fortunately they have a great craft beer selection too. Lots of locals on tap. Good bottle selection. This place has a nice outdoor patio, which is nice because inside can get really loud and crowded!“

“Pretty chil scene on a happy hour time. Garage style brewery which means the doors open during nice weather making for a chill enviroment. Parking in the lot is limited but I am sure you could find a spot in the street. 8 beers on tap when I went, all interesting in nature. Free darts and skee ball. Pints are $5, flights of 4 4 oz is $5. Skee skee skee mo fuckers skee skee skee gdmn. Some where Lil’ John is smiling.“

“Much like the Atlanta store, this place is lined with rows and rows of delicious beers. Not quite as good as the ATL store since AL distribution isn’t on par with GA. Nice staff and a huge bar offering up pints and growler fills. They also tend to get kegs of special releases and host some decent events. The night I visited, Spike from Terrapin was in. A nice one-stop shop for the area.“

“This place is right next door to Avondale, and offers all of Avondale’s flagship beers on draft. Since Avondale has no food, you could eat here or at any of the other nearby places, or take food into the brewpub. There is also a large shared outdoor spce with picnic tables, a performance stage and games, and a shared parking lot around the corner. And, the pizza is very tasty!“

“This is a large-ish brewery just a couple of block from Cahaba. Huge parking lot. Very nice tasting room with a very large bar, tables, a sofa in front of a large screen TV, and interesting photos/artwork. Beer are OK, they had half a dozen or so on offer, I think three were out. No food. Decent place.“

“Small but fun place. Lots of parking in their own lot. Inside you can do customized flight up to eight beers, on a board shaped like the state, a nice touch. Beers were interesting, nothing outstanding. Free food buffet was on offer, since they were having the semi-finals of a Skeeball tournament - there are two lanes in the corner, reminds me of Coney Island.“

“There is a large parking lot sort of around the corner from this place that seems to be shared with nearby restaurants, although street parking is possible too. They all share a large outdoor space as well, with a large performance stage, scattered picnic tables, cornhole, etc. Very dog friendly. In a very industrial looking brewery is a nice long tasting bar. Flights of six 5 ounce beers are possible from their flagship menu, but not from their seasonals, they’re full pour only. So a flight is a lot of beer. I chose to cherry pick among the seasonals, which were all interesting. No food here, so I’m not how the food rating appeared, but there are some good restaurants nearby - pizza, sushi tacos (yes, that’s a thing) and BBQ. Service is friendly.“

“Parking was slightly confusing for a simple person like me. They share the building with a computer company, so I parked on the side where the Hop City sign was. The beer store is actually in the rear, though, so I should have parked on the opposite side, with the computer store sign. Anyway, the selection here is extensive, both in bottles and their tap list. They had a dozen beers from half a dozen local breweries on draft, all 4 ounce samples, ordered one at a time, were are a buck or buck and a half. Service is OK. They did seem to be limited by AL state beer distribution; they had Cigar City, but nothing from any of the other states in the region as far as I could tell. Of course, that’s not their fault. Still, a very good place.“

“Never have been crazy about this place. Saturday night sealed the deal. Door guy let two people in front of me in for free. And then asked me to pay. If I wasn’t meeting someone there I would’ve told him to shove it. Oh well. No loss for me. Very unprofessional though.“

“It’s a gas station, but it has a pretty great beer selection. I was even able to find a couple things I haven’t seen at specialty stores.“
