Beautiful Beers (Beer Store)
1B ST. JOHNS STREET
“Review is for the online shop. Had a positive experience. The best thing about this place is, for me, the selection, which is quite different from what I see in other bottle shops. This place has a ton of random Belgian breweries, some other European breweries, local breweries. I bought 19 beers and not a single hazy IPA, pastry stout or fruity sour beer, but lots of old school British styles and traditional Belgian stuff. Prices are extremely reasonable. Shipping was fairly quick, everything arrived safely. I'll definitely order from this place again.“

“Ten of their own beers were on at our stay; six on cask and four on tap, all of them available on a sample tray of five 1/3 pint glasses. The pub is located close to a roundabout, just a few minuets from the railway station. Half-moon bar in a medium size, quite classic pub room, including an open fire place. Helpful service. Our stay here was strengthened by good music from Kinks, Supremes and Oasis. (Visited with Finn 12.11.2021)“

“This cozy, medium-sized brewpub with the brewery in the cellar is located close to the main church in town, and not more than 5-6 minutes walk from the train station. Their range of six well-kept cask ales are supported by a few kegs and bottles. A sample tray of three beers are available in one-third pint measures.. Excellent and welcome service. On our stay there was great music in the back from Style Counsil, Jam, and Undertones. (Visited with Finn 12.11.2021).“

“On our visit in November 2021 they had about 120 different beers from 17 breweries in East Anglia (Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, and Essex) supported by other British beers and some from other countries. We bought quite a few bottles from Suffolk breweries like De Vossen and Artefact. Excellent service. About ten minutes walk from the train station towards the city center. (Visited with Finn 12.11.2021).“

“This place is neither a cellar nor a kitchen store, but a decent bottle shop with mostly beers on cans and bottles from Adnams and their collabs. We bought some of their latest arrivals, and was very satisfied with the friendly and helpful service. Central location and fair prices. (Visited with Finn 12.11.2021).“

“A well-kept, old fashion, independent pub just outside of the main center in Bury St Edmunds. A sheltered drinking yard in front of the pub. Six cask ales and a few craft beers among the taps. Friendly service in cozy surroundings. (Visited with Finn 12.11.2021).“

“The beer café is a part of Greene King's visiting center at the brewery. A bottle and souvenir shop to the right of the entrance and a rather small café to the left. Six beers on cask and six on keg. They do beer flights of three 1/3 pint glasses. Polite service. Opens early and closes late in thee afternoon. (Visited with Finn 12.11.2021).“

“The Wetherspoon place in Bury St Edmunds has a very central location, right in the middle of the town in a huge, grand I listed building from the 1860s. The design of the old Corn Exchange has been well kept, including monuments and the grand entrance door. The building in itself is worth a visit. Otherwise it is ordinary spoons with 12 hand-pulled cask ales and a decent, cheap, traditional breakfast. Our first stop on day crawl in Bury St Edmunds. (Visited with Finn 12.11.2021).“

“Slightly set back from its road in the centre of town this smallish shop-unit packs in lots of brews from the Low Countries along its longest wall with some harder to find ones too. Opposite on the service side a couple of stacks of local brews are available. It's quite refreshing in modern times to see a still mainly bottle rather than canned ale retailer!“

“In one corner of several brewery buildings together on the fringe of the centre. This is a pub, shop and the start of the tour, whichever suits! All the beers are naturally from Greene King or their owned breweries and prices are good... but I guess the beer hasn't travelled far.“

“Had to check. Yes, it was 10/08/20. I had not stepped into a time machine. Worn but friendly, as was the guy who I guess was the barman. Two ticks from 5 beers. All East Anglian. There was an old Norwich Brewery pump and I suspect it had been there since the last time the bar was redecorated. Not particularly busy but it's away from the centre. The other customers were a mixture of regulars - OAPs and PE teacher as far as I could tell. Old school local freehouse.“

“Visited on 10/08 when I met up with SHIG. However I'd driven passed it earlier in the day and thought it looked an interesting little place. It's on what I'd term as a service road - it's been built at the rear of another building I presume. Somewhere between a pub and a micropub. Should probably be called Oakes Garage for accuracy. However internally it is a traditional pub style. Was pretty busy for a Tuesday at 18:30, with people sat inside and outside - although the crowd was thinner when I dropped in a few hours later on route back to our hotel. Something like 5 kegs and 5 casks (possibly more), all East Anglian. 5 new ticks for me from the likes Adnams, Grain, Woodfordes, Lacons, Mauldons and Bishop Nick. So decent for regional ticks even if the beers themselves were not overly exciting. Would be interested to know if that's the norm or if they get in beers from further afield as well. Friendly staff and warm atmosphere. Overall a decent pub.“

“Have seen this public house brewery change over the last forty years Positioned just outside the town centre it has both casual visitors and regular visitors Whilst not the biggest of venues it has a great atmosphere can be bit clicky on a Sunday afternoon I have had good at this venue but it’s the ale I go for Gunners daughter will be their flagship ale and the bitter is also very good Selection varies week to week and usually local ales are sourced My last visit mauldons has two beers on tap“

“Finally got a chance to stop in on a Saturday I had time. Very interesting tap list for this area, good half dozen or more ciders, casks as well. The ambiance is very relaxing and nice to drink a cask ale or two. They also do flights so you can get your tick in.“

“Не был в магазине но сайт вполне солидный. Очень уникальный набор пивасов. Как пример впервые в жизни я увидел сорта пивоварни Fantome. Есть редкие и топовые бутылочки из Северной Америке. Доставка хорошая с приятным буклетиком. В целом все советую, сайт разве что требует небольших косметических иноваций.“

Beautiful Beers (Beer Store)
1B ST. JOHNS STREET
“Online review. Website is a little old school but perfectly function. The selection of beers available is pretty massive and contains a lot of regional UK beers, also good for Belgian beers, they even frequently stock Westvleteren (all three of them) albeit it at expensive prices. Other than those specific beers the pricing is pretty standard. Packing was fine, beers were wrapped in cardboard pieces, air cushions on top of them to prevent movement. In terms of communication I had no notice of my beers being dispatched, it was only when I logged into my account that I found out they had been, which happened quickly. One of my beers was accidentally substituted for another, I complained and received a very apologetic response the next day, even offering a refund. I chose not to accept as I was keeping the beer and it was just a simple human error, no big deal. Will most likely be ordering from again in the future. From reading reviews I get the impression their physical shop is even better than the online one.“

“This rating is for the online store. Great selection of mostly UK beers but also from other countries. They also have a selection of mead. Within an hour of ordering they had already packed my box and returned the extra charge for shipping out of the UK. It was 25 pounds for shipping to Denmark which is not bad at all. Quick shipping and solid packing.“

“Set up a brewery tour on Sunday, it was great because they were closed so the 4 of us on the tour had free reign. The guide was great and very informative. We got to try all the beers on tap, several bottles and 1 to go all for £18. They have most of their products for sale in the cafe as well.“

“One of the bigger Adnams shops with the best range I've seen too in any of their shops which I've visited with probably 40+ different beers available. As perhaps something of an interloper in an otherwise GK dominated town I guess it had to put on a good show. Staff were very friendly. Worth a visit if looking for some new Adnams ticks and they seem to get all the new stuff in here as it comes out.“

“8 cask, 4 keg plus some Brewshed cans and a couple of ciders available on this, my first visit (don't normally get to Bury on a Saturday). Quite modern interior, good service, friendly crowd. Small car park alongside with space for 6-8 cars. Closest place to station (which is worth a visit anyway). A place I'd visit more if it opened before 5 on a weekday.“

“Big and quite modern interior, comfortable environment and a decent place to stop on the way back from Beautiful Beers to the station. Beer selection is what it is. Quite heavily focused on GK's Craft Academy beers which are so-so. Definitely better than waiting at the station for 40 minutes if en route to the train and the Beerhouse is not open.“

“Nice spot, half way between the centre and the train station. This visit was a Thursday lunchtime and only a few others in. 4 Old Cannon beers on tap, plus 10 other cask/keg beers of limited interest. Bottles and take out beers available. Food also available and is generally a strong focus though no one in today seemed to be there for the food. Very pleasant service. Taster board of 3 x 3rds available for £3.45. Their beers were ok but not as good as I recall on previous visits a few years ago. That said, still one of Bury's highlights and it's the best brewery in town!“

“Oakes Barn advertises itself as a freehouse and appears to operate as one; in the middle of Bury, here’s a pub with not a trace of you-know-who to be seen. The inside is quirky, friendly and oddly seems to have a maritime air (maybe that’s just my perception). Selection isn’t great, but isn’t bad either: five cask ales from the likes of Shortts, and about 5-6 bag in the box ciders. Keg and packaged beers not up to much though. One point: the doors are open to the patio, allowing smoke to drift in to the bar area. This may bother more smoke-sensitive people.“

“Greene King pub in the centre of town. It’s traditional and well-worn without being twee, and seems to be a favourite with the older generation although there are a smattering of young ’uns as well. The beer selection isn’t very exciting: 8 cask ales (6 Greene King and 2 St Austell), but there were two GK beers I’d not seen before. Keg is limited to lagers and a couple GK (East Coast IPA and Over Easy). The bottles are almost exclusively GK or Belhaven, with the full ’Craft Academy’ line. I’ve been in GK pubs with far less selection or atmosphere, and it’s pleasant enough being here. One point to raise: the service was slow. Unbelievably slow. I waited for ages, with four people in the queue and two bar staff. Won’t mark them down too much as they were friendly and it may have been a one-off, but that was my experience.“

“I’ve ordered from Beautiful Beers’ online shop in the past but never managed to make the trek out to the shop itself. If I had known it was this good, I never would have waited so long! For some reason, the website doesn’t give a proper idea of how much beer they have. Concentrating on Belgians, there’s also a very good selection from the USA and Canada (I think the latter was ordered specially for Canada Day last month), and of course British, Nordic, Antipodean and Dutch beers also get a look-in. There are some North American beers on draught but it’s growler only. The prices are very reasonable as well. A good place to treat yourself or a beery relative/friend.“

“Visited 02/07/17. This place was possibly the highlight of my holiday in Suffolk! I was after US ticks and picked up 5, plus a local beer. The owner is Dutch so no surprise that they have a wide array of Dutch beers. Plus Belgian, German, Swedish, Canadian and East Anglian beers. In fact more of a focus on European and North American beers than UK craft so has its own niche. Attractive little shop. The owner was helpful and chatty. Could hear another customer getting excited about the beers they had in stock. A gem of a place.“

“Visited on 4th June 2017, Corner pub with a couple of rooms, plenty of seating in this fairly modern, plain bar area. Beer range is pretty good with several of their own beers on cask and keg plus local guests. Beer quality was solid. The service was good and prices good. Liked this place and the better of the two brewpubs in town“

“Visited on 4th June 2017. Large brewpub in a nice residential square around 10 mins from the station. Pretty smart interior, very light with the brew kit features, there a focus on dining and seemed popular with the locals. Beer range was decent enough with a good mix of real ale including 4 of their own. A tasting flight is offered. Service was decent, prices good and quality of beer decent. Not a bad venue.“

“Small, slightly modern and comfortable, the Beerhouse smells of woodsmoke. I wonder to myself whether the fire has recently been burning or the advertised sticky ribs have been cooking away. Either way, it’s pleasant and welcoming. And so is the beer: about 8 cask (three Brewshed), 6 keg (1 Brewshed) and 3 ciders. Some of the keg is faux-craft (e.g. Marston’s latest forays) but I counted nine possible ticks in all. More beer-led, slightly less trad and a trifle earthier than the Old Cannon, I think I may prefer this place. Any beer in Bury that isn’t Greene King gets my vote, and the Beerhouse’s proximity to the railway station only enhances its innate attractiveness. If I was being picky I could point out that it took a little longer to get served than I’d like considering the unbusy-ness of the bar, but I’m okay with that. Oh, and Brewshed beers are decent, nothing too terribly special but certainly drinkable.“

“Bright and convivial brewpub in town. Smart café/bistro look as opposed to well-worn pub or hipster paradise. The beer is solid - not exciting mind, but solid - although the selection is pretty low. Three Old Cannon beers (two of which I’d had before) sit beside Adnams Southwold and Wherry. Some of the keg choices - Köstritser Kellerbier and Calvor’s 3.8 lager - are interesting if not imminently tickable. I’m not sure why more of the beers aren’t available, especially in bottle form: you can buy gift sets but I didn’t see any chilled. It feels a bit like brewing beer is secondary to the operation as opposed to the main focus, which is a shame although the business model seems to be working.“

“This is THE must visit place in Bury St Edmunds (indeed Suffolk) for beer. A great range of bottled beers complimented by the availability of 4 beers to take out. The owner is very knowledgable and helpful. Belgian, Dutch, US and UK beers feature prominently, with some others too. Shop is beautifully laid out. Home brew products also available. This shop and the Apex are main reasons why I go to Bury.“
