Monastic Store (Grocery Store)

“Small store of the monastry, selling their own Haagsche Broeder beers and some other monastric stuff. Nice beers, quite hard to find elsewhere. Very friendly staff. Located in Den Haag city center, payed parking nearby but you have to have a little walk. Don't forget to visit their chapel on first floor when you're there.“

“A very nice internetsite with a lange selection of low/alcoholfree beers. Some beers are a little bit overpriced, but luxury needs to be paid...and no hangover the day after is also a very nice thing. As a non alcoholic beerdrinker this site surprises me every time with its changing selection, yes, there are still beers who taste like cardboard, but nowadays it' s a lot better than 10 years ago. And it gets more better every day. Say Cheers....“

“Nice place, friendly staff, average beer menu. Terrace in the middle of the square is a fine place for a drink. (26-6-2021).“

“Nice Dutch web shop with a high quality selection of beers from all over Europe with a small focus on Dutch beers, of course. Pricing is fine compared by Dutch standards, delivery is super quick. The only real downside is the navigation as you have to browse the beers by styles with no possibility to show all of them at once. Definitely worth trying out!“

“Visited May 2014. Situado al lado de la catedral. Enorme, con mucho ambiente. Las cervezas pegan con ese estilo de ambiente, muy normalitas pero divertidas para un día de fiesta.“

“Dutch web shop for craft NA or low alcohol beers only. Impressive selection from Dutch and European breweries, many of them specialized in brewing NA beers. Seems like they stock new beers on a very regular basis. Prices are far from cheap, there's hardly any difference with regular craft beers. The site is easy to navigate, packaging is solid, delivery is very quick. Recommended.“

“Since my alcohol tolerance has gone down to zero, might as well revert to drinking zero. Webshop specialized in no- or low alcohol (craft) beers only. Great niche. Nice selection from UK, Poland, NL and some others, but don't expect hundreds of beers as there aren't that many N/A craft beers yet. Prices weren't cheap, in the range of 'normal' craft (not the hyped OJ IPA's or pastry stouts though) but fair I guess. Orderly webshop, easy to navigate and order, beers were packed in a sturdy box and delivered the next day, accompanied by a hand-written note. Nice touch. If I ever again need a stash of N/A beers I'll definitely use this site again.“

“Review based on experience with online shop. Not that big, but nice selection of beers. I especially ordered because they had a good selection of Haagsche Broeder beers, which are hard to get outside Den Haag. Prices are ok, service was good. Delivery was fast. Sturdy packaging.“

“Great place, loved it. Barman was great service was excellent. I was starting to feel a touch beer'ed out after drink for 4 days straight when we happened upon this bar. 30 odd taps some very nice beer, also a great many styles so something for everyone in the group (including my wife, the non-craft drinker of the group) and lots of it. One downside its a touch cold in its appearance a bit clinical, other than that, fantastic.“

“Sunday after Borefts 2019. Great visit, quite a few taps both keg and cask. British style pub which was good for both tickers and not. Good food, enjoyed my visit a lot and would go back if in Den Haag.“

“Thanks ratebeer app for losing my review, grrr. Nice big place with terrace seating on the square. Free wifi. Friendly service. Their beer selection seems to have gone downhill with 4 guest taps and 7 guest can beers. Not cheap at 5.50 for a 33cl glass. If I was coming to the Hague for the 1st time, this wouldn't be my first port of call for a craft beer“

“Update 6th August 2019 a decent selection of bottled beer with few surprises (yet). The selection keeps growing. They have 5 of their own beers on cask (6.90 a pint so expensive) and 3 on tap. Free WiFi“

“Nice place, modern decor but still very comfortable. Maybe 20 beers on tap, good range of styles and on my visit a high average standard. Service was super friendly and helpful, I guess only possible complaint the prices which are high especially given serving size. But all in, a very enjoyable place to drink. I just hope they normally have more customers...“

“Very pleasant traditional style pub/cafe located by a canal. Sells itself as a beer pub, bottle selection seemed wide and they had about ten on tap - the list looked decent but somehow not exciting. Friendly service. Not cheap given serving size.“

“Not much to add here. Service was a bit shaky, forgetting orders etc, but the owner was very enthusiastic, especially about his beer connection with Free Beer Co. One of the Free Beer guys is now working here as well. The beer list is interesting enough to find a good brew. Besides the obvious Belgian classics (Duvel, Westmalle), they have a selection of Dutch craft beers from various sources (Eeuwige Jeugd, Kompaan, Kaapse Brouwers, Bird, Uiltje) which could definitely be worse. The beers from Free Beer are actually the big plus. On tap a special (in this case Heathen from Northern Monk) and 4-5 cans (at my visit: Whiplash Body Riddle, Kinnegar Black Bucket, Walhalla Elixir NEIPA and a Northern Monk's Northern Star). All but one (Walhalla) hard to come by in The Hague beer bars. Of course, Roots and Paas have more beers on display, but when it comes to getting a tick or 4, visit this one. We didn't try the food but what we saw looked great and we will certainly go here again.“

Free Beer Co (Beer Store)
PRINSESTRAAT 59
“Great little beer shop in the heart of The Hague. They have a small but very eclectic selection of craftbeers (the most "common" beer I saw was Dolle Brouwers Oerbier) and their main attraction is the 3-tap growler station with fresh IPA's and specials from all over the world. Very knowledgeable staff, nice atmosphere and great beers. The prices might be high but seem reasonable to me for the type of beers they offer. If you visit one beer shop in The Hague, this should be the one (then Dorst, then the Haagsche Broeders shop).“

“Great beer shop just outside the centre of The Hague. They tend to have a good selection of beers not focussing on the Belgian classics but just on Dutch craftbeers with also a lot of Baltic beers, and some from other places. You can always find Haagsche Broeders, Nevel, Uiltje here which are among the best of The Netherlands.“

“Last time we visited I was surprised about the great service we got. Very attentive and helpful. Some years ago they moved from an all Belgian beer list to both Belgian and Dutch beers and they tend to have a lot of small breweries from The Netherlands now on regular display. The "treasure list" can be found on Untappd and contains some special botlles/cans. I had two beers from The Flying Dutchman, both great and a Pannepot which is always a treat. The food is excellent for a beer joint. “

“Nice bar at a canal in The Hague. The ambiance is great as it is a typical Dutch brown café. The beer selection is rather poor. Yes you can get a few ticks but those will be (imho) mediocre or second-rate Belgian beers. When we visited they did have two Moersleutel cans and they always have the Prior from Haagsche Broeder in 75cc. Service is nice and friendly and they do serve some snacks and a pizza Margherita. However the rating on ratebeer is way too high.“

“A huge warehouse style bar with seating for at least 100 people. A modern looking place with lots of wood and tiles. Not the kind of place will find by accident! The RateBeer map however does have precise coordinates. Easily walkable from the city centre. A decent tap and bottle selection and the food is standard pub fayre. Reasonable prices. Working Wi-Fi and friendly staff. Worth the journey for both tickers and drinkers.“

“Visited during Rootz Winterbierfestival. Horrible weather, so I picked up a bad cold, but I can’t blame this pub for that. Reasonably friendly service considering the crowd. Can be expensive. Two coins (6 euros) for a tasting glass of Barrel Aged IRS seems steep to me. But I will visit again on a quieter day. A later visit proved that the food is decent.“

“Big bright modern place that somehow manages to look clean but also has a very chaotic layout (or maybe it was the amount of christmas lights that was a bit excessive).

Don't be fooled by the name, it's not a brewpub (yet), and most of their beers are from the Heineken portfolio (including a rotating macro cider on tap). They have some Dutch bottles that are very expensive. The most interesting things beer-wise are the one beer they have brewed for them at HBM, and some UK import craft cans.

We visited on a Friday night, and there was fairly loud house music and a young crowd. I felt old and out of place at 38. Staff was very professional and friendly, definately the best thing about this place.

It's not a bad place at all, and might be even nice in summer when you can sit outside, but it's definately not for me, and I just really don't like so-called 'brewpubs' that mostly thrive on cocktails and macro beer.“

“Nice big place with modern interior. It doesn't look too big from outside, but the place widens up towards the back. In the back there's even a little fire. Lots of seating here, it's definately a place geared towards eating, which is also why there's lots of staff.

All the staff asking us the same questions three times in two minutes was a little uncomfortable, but then again we were sitting next to the kitchen doors and they were passing us every minute. But yeah, just assign one waiter to a table and all should be well.

Anyway, this place has recenly started a collaboration with local bottle/growler shop Free Beer, so they have the latest cans and one dedicated tap of Free Beer stuff which I guess will mean plenty of solid craft beer, in this case a new Cloudwater pale ale. Also some Dutch bottles and 9 other taps of which two are brewed especially for this bar (one was out though when we visited).

Overall I quite liked it, it looks nice, they have a solid selection of beers and it's nice to see a place attempt to stay in the loop with local collaborations. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but when in the area I'd be very happy to have a beer here again.“

“This place looks nice. At our entree we were invited to order beers from can so we could hang our tins in the Christmas tree. What an entree. I hate waiters, or people in general. So please give me my space. They swarm like flies in this place. We came for the special Free Beer cloudwater tap today and found 9 more taps. We also tried the place’s dedicated seasonal beer from HBM. They were trying hard to look super busy, quite some staff running around, asking everything is ok every time they pass, but it was in fact a relatively quiet place with lots of couples/dates sharing small tables. I'd visit again, but wasn't super impressed.“

Monastic Store (Grocery Store)
OUDE MOLSTRAAT 35
“Store for the “Haagsche Broeder” brewery which is in the top 5 of Dutch breweries on Untappd. As their beers are extremely hard to get outside The Hague but all great this is a must stop for any beer geek. Other reviewers stated prices are high but I have to disagree: their default beers are 75cc for 9 euros which is ok, the special sour ones 75cc for 17 euros which is comparable to a similar bottle of Belgian Geuze in Belgium. Service is friendly but typically volunteers for a monastery store.“

“A small bar in a small but posh food court right by central station on the other side from the larger Minglemush. It’s a collab between Scheveningen, Eiber and Crooked Spider breweries and features entirely their beers on tap and by bottle. At the time of my visit there were 4 taps and 13 bottles with the brewers around and pouring. It’s located right by a food place called The Duck Truck so that’s a winner. Pretty much everything on the menu there is with confit duck. There’s burgers with all sorts of different cheese, wraps and even salad options for the ladies. All with duck! Of course the burgers themselves aren’t burgers per se, but buns filled with tasty stuff and of course loose confit duck. This can be an advantage of course as it gives you the ability to pick out individual duck bits like you might if you were eating a kebab. Delicious! Being in a food court area you can off course always bring your duck feast to the bar itself. You’re literally sat right by it so don’t worry, you’re duck won’t get cold. Brilliant! A “Quacking” good venue!“

“Sadly a bit remote for even the locals of this town, but in return it has an interesting scenery in the industrial area. The bar itself is also modern industrially styled, but still keeps a warm atmosphere. Well done. Not all taps were filled when I visited, this was a bit disappointing. I hope to visit again to update my comments. (Visited 2015/09/17). // (2018/10/12). Still no contactloos betalen.“

“Big place on a roundabout. 14 tap beers including one of their own currently. The brewing equipment has arrived but I'm not sure if they've brewed with it yet. They have a mixture of Dutch and Belgian and American bottled beers but it was too early for a beer. Tap beers were all about 4.50. they have free WiFi. You can sit outside if the weather is nice.“

“Now open Tuesday to Sunday. Small place with approx 40 bottled beers and 3 growler taps. Knowledgable & friendly owners. The bottled beers are pricey. The growlers are for members only. You buy a growler membership and then you can fill a 1 litre growler for 10 Euros and a 2 litre growler for 20 Euros. Unique in the Hague and a valuable addition to the beer scene“

“A freshly opened brewpub in Zeeheldenkwartier. At the time of writing the brew equipment isn’t operational and their beers are being brewed at Scheveningen Brouwerij. It’s a pretty nice looking modern but not minimalist place with 15 taps and a selection of bottles. A couple of their own beers on tap and a selection of local and not so local (but hardly unknown) guest beers. Service was friendly and helpful and seemed to know what they were selling. Didn’t try the food as it seems a bit expensive.“
