70 /100 5834 MATILDE Very small place, tucked away in the Poblacion neighborhood. Maybe 10 seats total. Maybe 8 beers on tap, all brewed upstairs. Holy Smokes is an attached BBQ joint for food. Prices are good, flights available. Product is medium quality, but worth checking out. |
80 /100 5834 MATILDE Ok, so this might piss some people off, but I am combining House of Joe and Holy Smoke, as if you went to one, you don't really need to go to the other.
To be clear, I have never been to House of Joe (Taproom for Joe's Brew's), however, it is directly beside and maybe attached or affiliated with Holy Smoke, which is where I went.
This place ROCKS. Totally awesome American style BBQ, with excellent ribs and chicken. The sides, like mac and cheese and coleslaw were decent, but not homeruns like the meat and homemade sauces. About 5 tables inside and three outside. We sat out on the patio on a night evening and really had a great time here. Staff are a bit clueless though.
The beer offered is the same as house of Joe's including sampler. Only Joe's brews on tap, BUT there was only 5-6 beers on the menu and all of them could be in the sampler set, but the ones that couldn't be included in samplers (glass or pints only) were not listed. When you get the sampler set delivered from the guy at House of Joes (not by Holy Smoke staff), ask him if there are any other beers available on tap or in bottles that aren't listed and he will tell you. Oddly, he said there was an IPA that was room temperature as it was just for takeout. We told him we wanted to drink it there later on and please cool it down, he was surprised by this astonishing request, but 30 min later when we asked for the beer it was nice and cold and lovely. Beer quality is definitely above average for Manila. I would say a must visit. Only downside to Holy Smoke is the inside of the restaurant has bad ventilation and is VEERRRRY smokey smelling. Also, I found prices were on the high side for food, but not drink. |
72 /100 Polilya (Bar) 5658 JACOBO STREET, POBLACION Review below is spot on. Actually they said this is Engkanto's taproom. Samplers available and beers were in very good condition. Pretty lively bar. This is more of a stop over place - though a must visit, IMO. |
70 /100 5666 DON OEDRO STREET The two reviews below were spot on. Also, I found how they labelled the beers on the beer board was rather difficult to understand. Super popular though. This isn't really a beer geek place, but more cool patio place that has some non-San Miguel on tap. The pint only thing was annoying, but they will give you paper cups to pour the pints in and share. Remember to hit Pollys around the corner from here. Its the taproom of Ekganto and Holy Smoke is about a 4-5 min walk away |
76 /100 SOLACE HOTEL, NO. 9639 KAMAGONG STREET, SAN ANTONIO VILLAGE Atmosphere wasn't anything to write home about, but decent service, varied selection, not bad prices, above average food and best of all some of the best beer in Manila/PI. Bottles to go for several beers. Didn't blow me away, but can't complain either. |
80 /100 GROUND FLOOR, GREENBELT 2 MALL, AYALA CENTER Until now the best place for enjoying craft beer from south east Asia. They've more than 20 ( 8 different IPA's) own brewed beers on the tap and some in bottles. The prizes are between 250 and 400 for the pint. The flight is 350 ( 4 beers 0,1 l) and it's a good chance to taste their beer. It's the 10th place in the Philippines that I've visited and with a big distance it's the best. The staff knows about the beer that they offer and it's a pleasure to talk with them. Nevertheless the beer cannot compare with US or Belgian beers. The food is good too. I enjoyed a tasty salads.
This place and their beers are highly recommended when you're in Manila. Don't miss their beer flights |
80 /100 5834 MATILDE Nice cozy place. About 20 places to sit and 20 more if you like to stand. There are also some outside places. Expensive but delicious food you can order in the restaurants in the same building and they will serve it bhere.
The beer is from Joe's brew and you can get it on the tap or in bottles. They offer a flight - 4 beers for 300 pesos.
The beer prize is moderate for a craft beer. 160/260 for 330ml/500ml.
If you're in Makati and like craft beer it's worth to taste Joe's beers

54 /100 1331 ANGONO STREET By the way time of our visit (2010) the only place in Manila with draft beer we were able to find. Beer was over chilled as it happens in South East Asia and staff even though friendly was not really able to answer to group of (Czecho)slovak guests which Prague beer it is. Well now I know. |
70 /100 1200 PASEO DE MAGALLANES It’s primarily a bar, not a bottle shop, despite the name. A modern looking and functional place with a concrete floor and walls and a granite and wooden bar. Very chic. They have nine taps split roughly 50/50 between imports and local beers. The bottle selection was a little disappointing I have to say. I expected more local beers but about 90% of what they have is imported and nothing particularly special. Not the easiest place to reach. Taxis will take you here from downtown Makati but it’s not so easy to get a return. The metro runs close by and is an option too. Prices are fairly standard. No small sizes or flights here. It’s a pint or nothing. Working Wi-Fi and friendly service. |
74 /100 Smoky Bastard (Bar) 4/F CENTURY CITY MALL, KALAYAAN AVE CORNER SALAMANCA STREET This place is located on the Fourth Floor of the Century Mall in the “Hole in the Wall” food court. It’s easy to find if you know where it is, but rather difficult if you don’t! It’s a small stand in a multi outlet food court with four taps and around 50 bottles from ten different quality Filipino breweries. They also have a small seated area and a couple of tables at the back of the bar. Good friendly service. A tickers paradise. Not exactly cheap but that’s craft beer for you. Sadly the mall free Wi-Fi didn’t work in here. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in Makati. |
48 /100 Señor Pollo (Restaurant) 5767 EBRO A Lively, open, Latin American restaurant in the lively part of Makati. Quite tastefully decorated with a little street art, but very functional. On the bottle front they have all the local beers that most people on here would avoid after ticking them, but on the positive side they do have two beers on tap from Engkanto and one from 63 North, so not completely a craft beer wilderness. Reasonable prices for the area too. It’s a cheap and cheerful restaurant, popular with the locals. No reason to stop here unless you are passing by and hungry. |
72 /100 5666 DON OEDRO STREET In the heart of where it all happens in Poblacion. They have 15 taps of local craft beers and no bottles. A really quirky looking place and I really loved to hang out here. The rooftop area overlooking the street below was particularly nice. Only pints though and no smaller sizes which is a shame and rather irresponsible when they are serving 10% beers. Prices are reasonable, Drinks were served rather too warm though. Staff are friendly and attentive. They now have Wi-Fi. A must visit place when in Manila but I’m not sure I would be a regular if I lived here. Beer quality must improve. |
70 /100 5834 MATILDE A small friendly, quirky looking tasting room in Poblacion which won't seat more than about 10 people. Frequented usually by locals. They have five or six taps of Joe's Brew beer. No guest ales. A cool place to hang out and close to plenty of other places that are worth visiting too. It's easy to miss but the RateBeer map is accurate. |
74 /100 SOLACE HOTEL, NO. 9639 KAMAGONG STREET, SAN ANTONIO VILLAGE Opened in March 2018, next to the brewery and at the front of the Solace Hotel. All the current Nipa beers are available plus a few from the Professors Brew. Quite a modern looking place with enough room for 40 or so people. Great service and prices. Knowledgable, friendly staff. A short walk from downtown Makati but worth it. |
68 /100 Polilya (Bar) 5658 JACOBO STREET, POBLACION A trendy bar/restaurant in the Poblacion area, frequented mainly by younger locals. The main reason to come here is the Engkanto beers which I have not seen served anywhere else. They usually have five on tap and the quality is good. Prices are reasonable too. |
78 /100 GROUND FLOOR, GREENBELT 2 MALL, AYALA CENTER Definitely the best place so far on my East Asian jaunt. Impressive number of taps for this part of the world, and the quality is there too, something that's been lacking in a lot of places! Quite like the appearance, and the air-con is very welcome. 350 piso (about a fiver currently) for 4 x 100ml, a bit less for a pint of a beer. Had a light-ish lunch for 250, very tasty. The range of styles is far better than anywhere I went in Thailand and Cambodia, that they're all from one brewery is even more surprising |
74 /100 GROUND FLOOR, GREENBELT 2 MALL, AYALA CENTER Lots of concrete, wood and marble here. A modern looking place with lots of space. They have up to 22 taps and occasionally a few bottles... but don't rely on the bottles. Food is good and the wifi works. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Probably the best destination in Metro Manila. Certainly plenty of ticks here for most people. |
40 /100 H&J Sports Bar (Bar) FELIPE STREET 5781 It might be an expat joint with lots of people playing pool but the beer choice was grim and most of what they had was sweet. Really poor. Shoud be deleted from RateBeer IMO. The Wi-Fi quality was poor. They have a strict confiscation policy if you enter the bar carrying other drinks. Bit childish really. Beer is cheap and the staff friendly though. |
78 /100 Drinkka (Internet-based) 7391 BUILDING 9 BAKAWAN STREET CORNER MAYAPIS STREET, SAN ANTONIO VILLAGE Happened to find a link to this place from one of the PH brewers facebook pages. What a great find!! Contacted them via their email hello@drinkka.com and was helped by a guy called Henry (who was super helpful) to put together an order of 20 Philippine craft beers for delivery to where my wife was staying close to Makati. The address entered for the place is their warehouse and orders can be made for collection there but they offer free deliveries (within 90 minutes!) for Makati and BGC. The website has around 200 beers (maybe a third from PH and the rest a mix of US, Japanese and European) and states it has "over 2000 Beverages" in total. A great concept and the service I received was excellent. This won't be my last order fromt hem. |
74 /100 GROUND FLOOR, GREENBELT 2 MALL, AYALA CENTER A nice modern brewpub with a small patio and big open spaces. Staff is freindly and has a bit of knowledge. Lots of their own taps with 5 local guests. Flights available and a decent lunch menu. Food was OK, but nothing exceptional. Trying all the beers will hurt the pocketbook, but some were pretty good. A good spot for lunch and big ticking. |
70 /100 5666 DON OEDRO STREET Just off the busy main streets, this place is a great combination of hip, high end, casual and local. Only local craft this place is probably one of the better spots in town that also focuses on great food. Unfortunately, their taps are not cleaned nor is the first pour dumped. If you order the first beer it will likely be sour. A shame really, but commonplace. I would still go though. No small pours, no wifi and like most places cash only. |
78 /100 5834 MATILDE A tiny and cozy little tasting room with a neat steampunk theme. Staff are all family, well educated and very personable. Decent knowledge of beer but still new. They do flights and have wifi. Although the beer isn’t up to snuff yet, I hope it gets as good as the location, because I really enjoyed hanging out here. |
56 /100 H&J Sports Bar (Bar) FELIPE STREET 5781 A pretty chill sports bar full of foreigners playing pool and picking up the few local women. Cheap local macro. Not a craft spot, but if you miss your old college bar, here is your ticket to the past. |
66 /100 Smoky Bastard (Bar) 4/F CENTURY CITY MALL, KALAYAAN AVE CORNER SALAMANCA STREET Way out of left field, in a high end food court, this stall come up with the beast selection of locals so far. No flights and no clue, but you should be used to that here now. Prices are average for what is craft here. |
70 /100 1200 PASEO DE MAGALLANES A bit off the beaten track, this show room now tap room has some of the better taps and local selection in town. Staffer I hung out was from head office and we did a little impromptu beer 101 which was fun. Prices are a bit high, they don’t take really good care of the beer, but as far as Manila this is almost as good as it gets. |
60 /100 Señor Pollo (Restaurant) 5767 EBRO An open concept cantina like place. Most of the local macros, but 1 tap specifically for local craft at a good price. Service is decent, food is good and cheap. Not really for a ticker, but a good restaurant. |
58 /100 1331 ANGONO STREET A large building, with a large sign but you have to walk through a coffee shop. Don’t be confused just walk in. Not especially beer focused, but they have nice seats and tablecloths. No flights and prices are OK, but not cheap. |
94 /100 1200 PASEO DE MAGALLANES Best place for beer in Manila. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for Android |
78 /100 1200 PASEO DE MAGALLANES Hard for me to accurately judge, as I only stopped by for growler fill and takeaway of about eight bottles in about 10-15 mins. Based on that experience, this place is kick ass. Good efficient staff, the beer they recommended for growler fill was an awesome local IIPA.I actually spoke to a couple customers, who had never seen a growler before. Prices are not cheap, but selection of Pinoy and foreign beers is great. I would say must visit in Manila. |
80 /100 GROUND FLOOR, GREENBELT 2 MALL, AYALA CENTER Great beer place in BGC. About 10 local crafts on tap, good food menu and some credible attempt to pair the two. Otherwise very American style bar. Enthusiastic service. I enjoyed this place! |
48 /100 H&J Sports Bar (Bar) FELIPE STREET 5781 Fairly standard expat bar, international food, all the foreign sport on TV. You can work through most of the local San Miguel range at somewhat inflated prices whilst watching the game. |
