82 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET In the middle of a Marrickville industrial estate in Sydney's inner-west sits this haven for wild-fermented, sour beers. On my visit there was a selection of 10+ beers most of which were labelled 'acid' with a couple 'bitter'. The atmosphere was relaxed on our Friday afternoon visit. A good range of beers to take away priced at ~$20/bottle or three for $55. |
96 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET It’s disgusting how sick this place is. From my Bay Area centric point of view, this is the Rare Barrel or Sante Adairius of the Southern Hemisphere. Super chill barrel house vibe - screams WE ARE BARREL AGING LOADS OF SHIT MOTHERFUCKER, GAME BETTER RESPECT GAME! - in a laid back, “Net ticks and chill” kind of way. The beers are pretty much all top notch, especially by Australia standards. Solid crew running the place. Prices are no higher than you’d expect. I love it. Only complaint is they should open more days/ hours. Crikey mate, this will be my second home while in Sydney. |
82 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET What a great set up. Typical brewery look on entry, with nicely set out tables etc, but then opens out into a huge enclosed yard with space for kids to run and big gangs to hang out without imposing on others. Great choice of beers too. The hoppy freshness is a joy. |
66 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD Found on a stroll through marrickville. Decent size bottle shop with bar upstairs. Selection from AUS is good. Had a good amount of big bottles from US and CA as well. Prices are steep, but I probably normal for Sydney |
78 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD A nice beer store downstairs and a quaint little bar upstairs. Bar is minimalist and was relaxing compared to the breweries in the area. Service was straight forward. Only 8 taps but a solid selection. Bottle collection downstairs appeared to be top class. A few snacks on site. Prices seemed a touch steep but you pay for selection. Definitely a good stop for visitors. |
82 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET A warehouse style brewery with picnic tables and barrels used for seating and tables. Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. They had 10 beers on tap with a number of bottles available as well. No tasting paddles. No food on site outside of bar snacks. Prices were a bit higher than others. Still some of the better beer I had in Australia. |
76 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET A smallish indoor space but great outdoor space out back. Dog and kid friendly. A bit of a tropical vibe out back. Staff was efficient considering the crowd. 12 beers on tap with tasting paddles available. They had a food vendor on site but no in house food outside of bar snacks. Prices were in line with the area. |
90 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET By far the best place in Sydney to drink beer. As of Jan 2019 hours are 2-6pm on Friday and sat. About 10 beers on tap and one cider and one wine. No flights, just $6-9 for 200-250ml pours. All the beers are outstanding. Highly underrated brewery. Had a nice chat with the brewer, very open air place - one downside is its open air and can get hot on hot days. Sell a lot of beers to take away and 3 for $55 is a steal in a country where crappy IPAs in 500ml cans go for $15. Absolutely a must for Sydney for good beer |
80 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET I visited here as part of a 3 brewpub crawl and Sauce was definitely the best venue. As with others in the area the beers are good and there is an overall grungy-industrial vibe but the addition of an expansive beer garden out the back was a great touch. Like others in the area they have a rotating range of food vans. |
80 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD Beer shop located on Illawarra Road just up from Marrickville station. Great selection of craft beers, range includes Australian and International Breweries, plus afew interesting ciders. Bottles and growler fill available in the shop. Also has a bar upstairs with 10 taps which is open in the evenings from Wednesday to Sunday. Well worth the visit. |
78 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET Situated in a large corrugated iron clad warehouse in amongst industrial units in Marrickville, great ambience with stacked barrels and rustic bar. Got there abit early when just setting up, but staff friendly and beer was good, although abit pricey as sell by the glass. |
80 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET Found down a back alley in Marrickville, large space with brewing vessels and bar area, through to open outside area with picnic tables. Great selection of Sauce beers, friendly staff
|
92 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET Good selection of beers, interesting and unique decor and vibe. This is one of the best breweries (or blenders) in Sydney! |
92 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET Large taproom with plenty of seating inside and outside. A large range of beer styles available; including a guest cider and usually one or two guest beers. Great ambiance and a great space, to try what Sauce has to offer! Highly recommended. |
70 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET Big warehouse type building. Seating on benches. Only a few beers available due to the limited Wildflower range. Pretty tasty beers though. Pretty good. |
78 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET Taproom at the brewery with both inside and outside space. Around 12 beers on tap, including a couple of guests from other breweries. Friendly staff, it’s worth a visit if doing a tour of breweries around the Marrickville area |
82 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET Taproom at the brewery in Marrickville. Seating for perhaps 30 people inside. Five beers being served on my visit, it was great to sample their wares. The guys are real friendly. Bottles can be bought to takeaway at much cheaper prices than their bottles can be bought in bottleshops - $50 for an Amber, a Gold & a Table Beer (all 750mls). A visit here could constitute part of a brewery crawl around Marrickville with other breweries so close by |
82 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD Some interesting beers from around the world that I have not seen including from home some a little costly but still if you want them they are not too bad on the whole enough to keep you happy big beers like old and strong ales I have never seen before good online shop |
58 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD clean but no ambience. Service is sketchy. no value when they sell beers that are oxidised
Fairly new shop. Very clean and organised. All beers in a fridge, except for a few on a shelf. has ciders, cans, etc.
4 growler taps. Some of their own beers and some from other breweries. Pretty much every style covered and a good range from all the major countries. Sources beers from harder to get places like Tasmania. Like gear? they stock it. Bottle openers, glasses, shirts, etc.
Location is off Marrickville Rd, so is a haul to get to and very limited parking is a detraction.
No food but that is OK. Solid place if in Inner West Sydney. If not, a bit of haul to get there and to deal with a lot to buy a beer.
Overall a very strong shop to buy from and a range that is better than the best Sydney shops. Sleeker than the best shops in the country. |
