“9/18/21. Dropped by to take a look. Looks like an office complex they are filling with beer for mail order. I doubt there are any fridges in there. You can’t go inside. You can order online and pick up outside. They have a few bottles of beer, but they are not on the website (yet?), so the staff brings you bottles to look at, while you wait (a long time) at the door. Super lame. They said they replaced their limited shelf space of beer with spirits. So essentially they are no longer a beer store, imho.“

“Actually this review is for all Trader Joe’s. The closest one to my house is in Cupertino . This is the closest one in the database. Mediocre selection, but you can take single cans only, they are close by, and their prices are very low, so those are three big positives.“

“Very nice beer store in Silicon Valley. Great location in downtown Mountain View. Lots of singles. Most of the beer is refrigerated. Great selection of barrel aged, sours, hazies and foreign beers. Small but very good.“

“Smaller Total Wine than most. Maybe two aisles of beer, equivalent of an aisle of singles and an aisle of 4+-packs. A few interesting things in there (both West Coast and some random international beers) but not worth going out of your way for.“

“A nice place. Good food and a decent beers selection. Inside is very open with plenty of seating. They have a patio with heaters. It's very noisy inside. TVs scattered around with different games on. A big U shaped bar. Good food and service.“

“Cromulent brewpub. Standard decent taps with a few rarities on rotation. Decent gastropub food. You won't get a home run here but it's usually a solid single, or at least a walk.“

“I agree with Mercutio. This place had acceptable selection - nice mead shelf - but most of what's here you can get from elsewhere. If you have to buy beer in the Valley, go to one of the places in Redwood City or Willows Market, not here.“

“its a total wine. Smaller than most, with correspondingly less beer selection. Surprisingly disheveled given how short a time it has been open. Otherwise, you know what you are expecting. Its right next to a Costco, which means the parking lot gets super crazy at times. Beware. Place rating #975. I am getting there!“

“When it was new about 5 years ago this place was fully stocked with a great selection. They might have only just rated a 90 score back then. Each time I’ve come back there are less and less beers. More Scandinavian selections than is usual. There’s ususally some interesting Euro product, IPAs are in coolers, some glassware, a little overrated I think. I’ve left empty handed my last couple visits. Super annoying (like autism spectrum) slow checkout every single time I’ve been. Their Point of Sale system is a POS. Receipts only by email. Pffft.“

“A little dark ray of hope in Downtown Mountain View. The selection here is unique, saw lots of Hitachino, B. Nektar, and bunch of local CA stuff. Plus the dude at the register was wearing a Death shirt and blasting metal. The only drawback to this place is how small it is.“

“Good selection of beer. I’ve been twice and both times there was an awesome and hard-to-find imperial stout in the rotating taps. And other good stuff too. Beer prices are fairly high, but food prices are good. Burger tasted good.“

“Lunch visit. This is apparently a chain, but its my first visit to any of them. Standard bar feel, modern and open. Good service, though I heard a few stories that make me think that some of them need some basic beer education ("Imperial Porters are supposed to be golden" and "I am from Seattle, I don’t know what colors people expect styles to be here"). 40 taps including 20 standards and 20 rotating. Pretty decent, if mainstream, selection. Burgers were quite good. Definitely database worthy. Sponge worthy is another matter altogether.“

“Okay spot for some okay beer and some decent food. Service was okay, though they didn’t seem to be too knowledgeable about the beer. My favorite part of the visit by far was watching them dump about 10 pitchers of their hefe because it wasn’t clear enough. Just an amazing viewing experience. All-in-all its an average to below average brew pub.“

“Tiny beer shop in downtown Mountain View. Wasn’t really expecting much here, but thought it was quite a nice place to buy some beers.

A good mix of cold storage and beers out on the shelf, as well as plenty of six packs and single offerings. All of the typical players are present here but a lot of interesting stuff from outside the state and country. Cool things from Alvinne, Uinta, Hitachino, Mikkeller, and Omnipollo, to name a few. Prices were pretty fair, I thought.
<br. Knowledgeable staff working in the shop and very helpful. If I had a reason to be in the area more often, I would certainly come by frequently.“

“Nice restaurant in the downtown Mountain View area. They have a nice little fenced in patio outside as well as a nice modern feel to it--lots of stone, dark tile, dark stained wood. The bar is off to the site a bit but has seating on both sides. I took a seat there and ordered a flight, which is unfortunately preset. They also only serve them at the bar, it seems.

Service was initially a bit lax, but the bartender was knowledgeable and friendly. Food is solid here as well.

The draft list is definitely serviceable. Some interesting things from throughout the Bay Area and Northern California, but also had an interesting Mikkeller beer that I had not come across before.“

“Stopped here after a work meeting in Mountain View. This place is pretty large and sort of on the outskirts of the downtown Mountain View area. Plenty of street parking available in the area.

Nice enough building. Very open feel to it. Large bar that runs much of the length of the dining space. Plenty of seating all around. Nice natural light in the afternoon.

Not surprisingly, pretty dead at 3:00 PM on a Tuesday. They have a rather enormous number of taps, many of which are Hermitage brewed, but they have a handful of Tied House branded taps as well. They have structured flights at varying costs or you can just pick your own and the samples are like $2-3. Beers weren’t very good, particularly given the prices charged, but I sort of already knew that going in.

The service was at least good and friendly. Didn’t eat anything, seemed mostly like your typical brewpub offerings and prices as far as that goes.“

“This is a second location for Artisan. The other is in Los Gatos, replacing the closed location on Villa St.. This location is much larger and has overall better selection. The staff is very helpful and friendly, always happy to talk about new arrivals and take requests. They also run free tastings for regulars on most Sundays, and they have become my go-to place for wine shippers (not styro, but the paper pulp kind). Oh, and they have a good selection of Sake too... Update: their beer selection really started to fall off for a while, but they now have a new beer buyer (Dave) and I am hopeful that things are looking up again. They are one of the not TOO many places in the south bay that get a regular shipment of Pliny about once a month as well Update: selection has severely diminished since my previous review. Its kind of a shell of its former self, actually, which is really a shame.“

“Large brewpub with pretty good food. Mostly focussed on the Hermitage beers, as they seemed more interesting than the Tied House ones (and RB scores confirmed they were better). The ones I had were pretty good. Had fried fish tacos, which were pretty tasty. Overall this place is good enough for me to return to when I’m in town on business.“

“Stein’s is an old standby when I’m down in the boring part of the peninsula. It’s your typical joint with a pretty standard character, but a beer list that can surprise you at times. Right now, I’m there drinking a Flat Abbey Framboise de Amarosa and similarly interesting taps. The samplers are on point except that I wish they’d allow you to have the custom sampler at tables and not just at the bar. Sort of annoying. Food is solid though and their happy hour from 3-6pm M-F is really nice when I can duck out early or am between meetings. Value is OK otherwise. It’s one of the better spots in the area despite being a far cry from world class.“

This is a pretty cool new spot in Mountain View. One of the better beer stores on the peninsula for sure. It’s surprising that he can stay in business just selling beer and nothing else (minus some glasses and tshirts). There are some shelves in the middle of the store and around edges of the room are some fridges and more shelves. I saw everything from the big California stuff to Logsdon to Mikkeller, to Cascade and Anchorage. Oh, and they have Kriek de Ranke. Awesome. I bought two beers: a Mystic beer and a barleywine from some local brewery. The guy that was working is a metal fan too. Cool spot. I’ll have to make sure to stop back in again.“

“(Visited 08/2014): Jane’s Beer Store is located in Mountain View on Villa between Blossom and Hope. Street parking is available in the surrounding streets.

The inside of the store is small, with shelves around the perimeter and in the middle, and some coolers on the left. Some glassware is for sale in the glass counter.

The store stocks around 500 different beers. Lots of breweries from CA represented like Alesmith, Bruery, Firestone Walker, FiftyFifty and Lagunitas, plus many other domestic craft breweries and imports.

Service on a weekday afternoon was good. The guy behind the counter was helpful and friendly.

All in all this shop was a nice find and I would visit again.“

“(Visited 08/2014): Tied House is located in Mountain View on Villa near Franklin. Street parking is available in the surrounding blocks.

The building is white stucco with lots of windows and trees on either side. The inside opens to a large brewpub with tables past the entrance and on the right, and a long bar on the left. Wooden tables, and high ceilings with exposed HVAC and hanging cut growler lights. Mug club mugs are hung behind the bar, and there is a small case with to-go bottles and merch. There is a patio as well.

Tied House has 14 house brews on tap both under their label and Hermitage. The selection encompasses mostly year-round offerings but there are a few seasonals and one-offs as well. On my visit these included a Maibock, Ale of the IMP, Single Hop Mosaic, Black Oops and Ale of the 2 Tun. The beers were average at best on the whole, with a couple being decent.

Service at the bar was alright during a weekday lunch. The bartender mentioned being hung over and didn’t display a whole lot of knowledge about the beers. Still he was friendly enough.

Food at Tied House is pretty standard in terms of the menu. My sandwich was decent but nothing really memorable.

Overall this place was a bit of a letdown. There are better spots not too far of a drive from here.“

“Agreed with t0rin0. I think I added it in order to properly put distro of whatever India tick I drank there, but it is not a beer place. This is where the rating system breaks down. I am reviewing it now mainly to try and drive down the overall rating so that it doesnt look moderately respectable as a beer place. And look! Its still a 60 despite two reviews in the 30’s. Grrrr.“

This Bevmo is not entirely visible from the street as they have a smaller sign than most other stores. Inside the place is large an d there is a lot of stuff in there, though most of it is wine and liquor. This is the first Bevmo that I’ve been to that has a cart for new arrivals (at least that I can remember). I thought that was neat but there wasn’t a lot on there that I was excited about. The place was fairly empty at 11am on a Sunday. There was a group of college kids (presumably) looking for some fancy beer to take to a party. Service was friendly and actually available. Not a bad place but one of the weaker selections for a Bevmo.“

Stopped in on the way out of town. Standard Trader Joes store. I guess I can understand why someone would list this place since they do have some beers that you can’t get anywhere else (aside from other Trader Joe’s locations) but as far as Trader Joe’s beer selections are concerned this is one of the weaker locations. They still had some of the Vintage Ale and some of the Belgian pale ale and of course the Firestone and Gordon Biersch-made beers. Beer is surprisingly cheap here but the selection is very modest.“

“Visited June 9, 2013.

Stopped in on the way out of town. I realized that there are a whole bunch of places on the beer map right here on El Camino. It’s been a number of years since I’d been in a World Market. Kind of Kmart like with stuff seemingly randomly placed everywhere and the same applies to the beer. There was one small aisle of beer and a bunch of random displays around the store with a few bottles on them. I did walk around and look at them all. I suppose this would be a good place to buy a few things if you were shopping for some kitchen appliances or odd spices and wanted a St Bernardus to drink while sitting in your sweet new lawn chair this would make sense, but otherwise head up the street to several better stores.“

Small place right on El Camino. These people are packing as much product into a small space as possible. Tons of wine crates stacked everywhere and a small beer aisle off to the side. Service is friendly and a guy told me about the new arrivals and made suggestions for some hoppy beers when he saw me looking at some IPAs. Prices are about on par with other places and they have some interesting European imports that you don’t normally see other places. Definitely check these guys out.

Just a heads up, El Camino seems to be the border of Los Altos and Mountain View so if you’re looking up other places in the area or even the Whole Foods directly across the street you might have to check both cities.

VITUS.“

“Went after work at their opening day celebration. Very nice space with a spacious interior, large bar, and a large outdoor patio area. 31 beers on tap, with a decent, not fabulous, selection. A bit kitchy with the sales gimmicks, including a "secret" tap, which turned out to be (gasp!) Chainbreaker IPA. Normal prices are pretty high for both food and beer, but the food and the cocktails were half price for happy hour. Beer was not. :(. They have several "fixed" flights offered, as well as a make your own option. I did not try the food. Servers did not seem to know much about the beer they were serving. All in all I am glad to have a place like this so close to work, but I hope the prices come down and the selection gets a tad better.“
