78 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST In an office park a bit north of downtown Redmond. Nice brewery, two bars. Beer is generally hop-focused (as so many around here), well done but no knockouts in my preferred styles. Good if you're in the area (i live nearby so I will be back) but not worth going out of your way for. |
74 /100 17825 NE 65TH ST. Kind of a classic brewery in the Seattle area. Generally (as is common in Seattle) specialize in hoppy beers, although their African Amber is a staple and they do surprisingly good BA stuff. Gotta stop in here at least once--won't be something you tell your grandkids about or anything but they do quality beer for a good price and, again, it's a classic. |
62 /100 Whole Foods Market - Redmond (Grocery Store) 17991 REDMOND WAY Whole Foods are pretty standardized as far as beer now. Slightly better than Safeway, but just go somewhere that takes their beer seriously, you know? |
74 /100 17625 NE 65TH ST STE 100 Swung by on a Monday after work. Perfectly acceptable beer here--on the high end of cromulent. Wouldn't go out of your way to go here, but good thing to have local. |
72 /100 7211 166TH AVE. NE I mean it's a BJ's Brewhouse. BJ's : craft beer :: Famous Dave's : BBQ. Not bad, but won't blow your socks off. If you want cromulent beer, a good spot though, and plenty of space. |
86 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY As a beer shop, this ranks quite a bit beyond Beer Junction and Bottleworks in Seattle (but is still very good). This place has a seriously superb mead selection though. I'm not really sure that mead and ratebeer go together, but I like the stuff and left a few hundred bucks lighter due to my mead purchases (I'll protect my house with corn syrup and beer that doesn't taste like watery piss to keep the Bud Knight out).
Worth a stop if you're in the Redmond area but would call this a clear step below Beer Junction and Bottleworks as far as bottle shops go (and obviously Brouwers is the gold standard in Seattle). |
78 /100 17825 NE 65TH ST. You can drink pints on site now! I feel like it's important to get a recent place rating on the books for Mac and Jacks. It seems to have slightly changed in the last few. We stopped in after Postdoc, due mostly to convenience, and also it's a place that I feel like everyone needs to check in to at least once. They still operate the taproom in a room about the size of an average bedroom. There is a small production area that you can stand out on the side, but in the winter, the service window was closed up. About 10 beers on tap, all available for free sampling, pints (both to plastic cups), and growler fills. Other than a couple standing tables, the rest of the room is dedicated to Mac and Jacks swag. Anything you can really think of. I'm sure they had a Mac and Jacks mouse pad in there. Are mouse pads still a thing? Anyway, the beers were all pretty good. Good value. Kinda hard to give anything less than a perfect score on value for a place that gives you their beers to try for free.
Service was very friendly. With pints now available, as well as some experimental brews on tap, I feel like this is becoming a really good stop when doing the Redmond area crawl. |
62 /100 8300 160TH AVE NE New name for the Growler USA Redmond location, but more or less the same exact place when it comes to beer. The food menu seems to have changed a little. I stopped in yesterday to check out the new place. Bright, decent sized restaurant on the bottom floor of a large living space. I suppose this would be a decent place to have in the basement of my living situation. Between beer, wine, cider, kombucha, and other things I might not even know about, they have 100 taps. Even with a selection that large, it seems to be a bunch of uninspired offerings. A beer lover like myself with any time at all behind the hobby has probably tried all the beers they have available. They have quite a selection, but don't offer any sort of flight option, which is annoying to me. If you don't live upstairs, and have to drive to a place like this, I can only try 1 or 2% of the beers you offer on my trip. Annoying to me, but probably not all that unusual. Service was good overall. Probably a little too attentive though. We were sitting at the bar, and the staff was just lingering a foot away behind the bar, and seemed like they were listening in on our conversations. Awkward, and a bit frustrating. The food menu is limited, but looks pretty good. For the average person, this is probably a fun stop, with what appears to be a massive selection, but if you are looking to tick some beers, this probably isn't a place to stop in. I'll likely come back someday. They do live music and trivia events. A couple pints and an event like that seems like a good time here. |
80 /100 Tipsy Cow Burger Bar (Restaurant) 16345 CLEVELAND ST. Grate burgers, and very nice selection of draft beers. |
80 /100 17625 NE 65TH ST STE 100 A cool place to stop, and a must stop if you are hopping the Redmond breweries. Next to Mac and Jacks, so swing over here if you want to get a pint of something. This is a place that seems to improve with every visit. Wide variety of beers on tap, including cask and guest cider. Frequent events here keep me coming back. Dog and kid friendly. They open up an outdoor area if the crowd is large enough or if the weather is nice. Food truck is usually out front, but typically the same one every time. Overall good beer, nice service. Cool place, and if you want to be the one millionth person to ask, ask them how they got their name. |
70 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST A pretty nice brewery, perhaps one of the best in Seattle, in one of the least interesting parts of Seattle. Tried with Winchell, Josh, and Al in Seattle in 2016. |
82 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Visited brewery 2016/04/05 Tuesday, 8-10(closing)
Vibe: very good ambiance, good fixtures in the brewery, good crowd
Quality: Very good beer
Service: very good service, attentive
Selection: 12 beer selection, 6 year round and 6 seasonal, special
Value: Excellent value
Overall: Excellent tap room, will definitely do it again. |
72 /100 17625 NE 65TH ST STE 100 Clean, modern space in the corner of an industrial park, basically near Mac & Jacks. Dogs welcomed!!!!! Beer was never flawed, lots on tap. Some snacks available for purchase. I would come back. |
80 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Visited in the hour before closing time, got a sampler of everything they had and shared it. Quite cheap for what it was. Some really good beers among the selection, and there was a great local bar vibe (once you got inside). Would make for an excellent neighborhood place, if only it were in my neighborhood. |
82 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Odd location in an industrial park in Redmond, with signs that are nearly a death threat if you park your car in another business’s space. Very nice decor inside with a dozen or so taps. 8 or so of their regular year round beers, and 4 or so seasonal, or what they call rare birds. Good beer, and I can’t complain to much about location, because it’s not really out of the way and is next door to one brewery, and walking reasonable walking distance to a couple others. Love their regular release events they hold throughout the year. I’ll keep going back. |
78 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Nice bottle shop with taps over on the east side. Knowledgeable staff, good selection. Prices slightly higher than the norm, but otherwise on par with other bottle shops in town. |
62 /100 17825 NE 65TH ST. Not really a taproom, just a garage-like area where you can sample their draught beers, and a little shop to fill your growlers and purchase bottles to go. You can sample the beer for free, which is sort of run-of-the-mill -- competently brewed but nothing outstanding. Very friendly service. Not really worth coming to, but if you’re at Postdoc and want a few more ticks, it’s 1 block away. |
64 /100 17625 NE 65TH ST STE 100 Small, modern place in an industrial park, 1 block from Mac and Jack’s. I went on a Sunday early afternoon and it was completely dead. 10 or so beers on tap plus a couple of casks. Beers aren’t very good quality, but let’s hope this improves. Service was friendly and astute. Hopefully this place improves the beer quality, as it’s a great little place. |
82 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Wonderful, well laid-out place with an excellent selection. Everything is well-organized in fridges, with a good cider and mead selection as well. Prices are maybe a touch higher than Bottleworks. Good taplist too. Service is friendly and helpful. Definitely one of the best bottle shops in WA. |
84 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Great website. Easy order. Fast delivery. Unusual "local" beers. Highly recommended. Actual store is even better!!! |
86 /100 17625 NE 65TH ST STE 100 Having just opened a week ago they are working out the kinks but not many to work out. This was a super place I wish them the best of luck. |
60 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Unassuming building in a light industrial area of Redmond. Interior is built out well, wood and PNW themed. Good local crowd on a weeknight. Pretty good selection of their house beers with one or two seasonals. |
82 /100 17825 NE 65TH ST. Visited the Sunday 3pm tour. Use the website to find this old-school, out of the way, in an industrial complex, brewery. Only 5 of us on tour, so more intimate than usual. You get a free shaker glass, and 4 free samples. The brewery now has "Employee Beer" only available for sale on premise. Kegs and growlers for sale in small tasting room. The tour was good and the tour guide did not talk down to the audience and did not treat it as a frat bro drink-a-thon tour. A brewery-only bottle for sale as well this time around. Mac and Jack’s does a few things you usually don’t find in other breweries. Mac and Jack’s isn’t the darling of the new generation of craft beer drinkers but it holds an important role in the expansion of craft beer. Currently, its the largest draft-only distribution brewery in on the North American continent. For all these reasons I think its worthy of locals to visit even if you are tired of seeing African Amber everywhere. A must visit for locals, especially for brewery-only ticks and to learn about some of the brewery’s methods. For out of towners, only if you want some ticks and its not a traffic filled day. |
78 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Went here for the first time. Clean place, fridges surround the place, some wine, and taps. Tables for people to bring their own food in (which a lot of the locals were doing this Sunday evening). The prices were standard or a $1 more. Their Anniversary beer was unnecessarily expensive. Tap selection was good, a few nice import taps. They seemed to have a few bottles I had not seen around shops in Seattle. Well worth it for a Seattle local to visit. I would not trek my way here out of Seattle during high density times for visitors. |
80 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Nice place, with 24 seats plus patio; I like these beershops with taps. The selection of bottles is very large. And they pour small samples (3oz). Nice music, not loud. Recommended. |
82 /100 Tipsy Cow Burger Bar (Restaurant) 16345 CLEVELAND ST. Excellent food, burger was awesome and a great selection of craft beer. Plenty of local options. Relatively new, but great place. |
80 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Located in a business park. The placed was crowded on Friday evening during happy hour, but we were able to share a table with some cool people we just met. A nice beer selection and a friendly atmosphere. |
84 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Easy to work with good list of beers I needed had no trouble ordering and getting the beers sent on a real shoppers delight this place |
72 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Cool unsuspecting place in an industrial park with a pretty expansive interior that has two beers and a nice outdoor patio. They have offer flights (6 3 oz. beers), with 10 house beers on tap that range in quality. Rarities were more interesting than the standard lineup. Service is very friendly and helpful. and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely worth a stop in Redmond. |
88 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Parking lot is a little muddled, but this location is very nice and secluded. Small patio off one side of the building. Bar in front with a current tap list printed on the blackboard. Staff is very nice and attentive. Kind of compartmentalized areas beyond the front and quiet. Nice place. |
80 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY This place seems to be better every time I return. Great selection of bottles with fair prices. Knowledgeable staff with good recommendations and conversation. A good number of taps here, however there are times I have gone and some of them were empty. Overall, I have never had a bad experience here, and love going here. Update: what’s with the draft prices though? The bottle prices are fair, but a lot of beers for standard draft pour are at least $2-3, even up to $5 more than I would expect at other places. I usually stick to bottles when I go here now, unless they have a draft that’s a can’t miss, which is occasional. I also had a recent experience where I arrived a whole 45 minutes before closing and they refused to serve me, due to them already closing the taps. I can understand 20 or even 30 minutes before closing, but I was very annoyed to go out of my way to come here and have that happen. All things considered though, I love the place. One of the better bottle shops around in my opinion. |
98 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Have to rerate since I first went here a couple of days after it first opened and it’s evolved a lot since then. This place just keeps getting better. Great selection of beers on tap, everything you could hope for in bottles, owner (Doug) is a great guy, and they always come through with my kegs now that I have a kegerator. Just an awesome place! |
76 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Sweet looking brewery taproom. Well thought out beers on offer, and apparent the brewers are switched on. Well brewed and nice to see barrel variants. Speaking of which, loved the windows to the barrel room...always a nice touch. Darkly lit in the late night, and I dug the basement feel. Really cool place in what seems to be an unlikely location. |
88 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Close to my hotel so made the drive over here and was glad I did. Huge selection and lots of hard to find bottles available. I was able to stock up and wish I could have bought more. They had quite a few taps on and plenty of seating. Very friendly service and they had plenty of room to move around the store. Most bottles were in coolers, like what I saw at Bottleworks, and I was just shocked as the selection was huge. If I am in the area again, I will be back to visit. |
88 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Great place to bring some food with and quaff down a couple. Ample seating. Table service can be slow, but just mosey up to one of two bars. |
92 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY The best place on the Eastside to buy beer. Extensive selection and a great tap list. |
86 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY I stopped in after the Washington brewers beer fest. This was my first time in the shop it was great. A nice selection of taps, tons of coolers stocked with good beer, and a good looking wine section aswell. I also noticed a pretty sweet looking outside seating area to enjoy a pint. This place was very clean and setup well. Once again I got to say bottleworks who??? |
74 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Good selection for the size of the store. Wish it was bigger and had more. It is awesome you can buy and drink there. Plus you can bring in food from next store and have a meal. |
54 /100 17825 NE 65TH ST. These guys do great things for the beer world without a doubt. They focus on a rock-solid business model: produce flagship beers that anyone can enjoy, and don’t spend a lot of time on side projects.
As a result, you get a fairly bare-bones experience here. There are tanks and kettles, and there are faucets and growlers. There are grains, yeasts, and hops somewhere as well, but those are marked employees only. You come in, you get your growler filled to go, maybe you shoot the breeze a little, then you go drink your beer.
This place offers a nice lineup of beers. They actually offer the current sales leader in Western Washington among craft beers, I think--the African Amber. Redhook and Widmer and a few other mid-major craft breweries challenge it pretty well, but the African is a king among kegs of craft beer in this town. You see it at places where it’s the only non-industrial beer, that stately lion on the tap handle announcing that there’s at least one thing on tap with a grain bill that’s all barley. You see it at restaurants, sports bars, sometimes even at higher-end places that are crazy for beer.
You occasionally get a stale keg of the African because it can sit so long at places that don’t move much craft beer, so it has a bit of a middling reputation with a few people--some people think it’s too sweet, because by the time they get to a place with a keg of it, the hops have faded, and the crispness and refreshment have gone. But African is a very drinkable beer, and the Serengeti Wheat is solid as well. They also serve a decent porter and IPA, and they occasionally make an interesting special batch of this or that.
But most of all they serve beers that anyone can enjoy, and more than once their beers have been compared to Kind of Blue by Miles Davis--something both musicians and a large percentage of the public alike can really get into. Very well-crafted, but also very accessible. |
88 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY This is a really good shop and place to drink by any standard anywhere. They have a huge selection of local, Western US, and further selection. While they weren’t a huge amount of especially rare anything they more than earn high marks for the breadth. While not exactly designed it’s got a great beer spot feel and was filled with a good crowd Thursday after work drinking from the taps and bottles (reasonable corkage fee). They had Pliny on tap! And their digital tap list amazingly says how much of the keg is left! That’s one of the coolest things I’ve seen at any bar. Bravo. Oh and they will ship to you and were super helpful and knowledgable. |
82 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST (Visited 04/2012): Black Raven is located on the north side of Redmond, east of Seattle off the 405 on 95th. The building has a private parking lot.
The interior has some high table seating at the entrance, and a small bar area in the back. Nice brown and beige color scheme with tasteful lighting. There is a chalkboard behind the bar that lists what beers are available. As for the beer, Black Raven has 6 house beers and offers a sampler. On our visit this included a Stout, Porter, IPA, Kristallweizen, APA and 25th Anniversary Extra Sensory Peppercorn (ESP). All of the beers are decent. Service at Black Raven is pretty good. The bartender was familiar with the beers and friendly. Black Raven does not offer food but they regularly have a food truck in the parking lot, and you are able to order in from several local menus. All in all this is a nice brewpub to visit on the outskirts of Seattle. |
86 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST The business park location is a bit odd for a brewpub but it’s definitely worth a visit when in Redmond. The interior is very classy with lots of nooks and crannies to spend the afternoon sipping the brewery’s many quality beers. If only they’d open a taproom in Seattle... |
68 /100 Three Lions (Bar) 8115 161ST AVE NE They wear it well. They start outside with the multiple flags of the UK nations, some shingle siding on the eave, a sandwich board with a Union Jack. They’re right next door to the British Pantry; in fact, they share a common door. It’s a little expatriate outpost happening here.
You walk in and it feels more or less like a lot of bars you’ve been to, but the touches give it that UK feel. The wingback chairs aren’t a common theme for a lot of places, and the louvered shutters on the window give it a cave-like feel that’s appropriate. There are highboys and plenty of tables. There’s a full bar and lots of dark wood. Put it all together and you feel like, British or not, you’re in a place that’s true to itself, all of a piece, and ready to welcome you for a friendly pint and some homey cooking. And some footie on the tellie, if anything’s live at the moment. They do show American sports too. No shortage of flat screen here.
Service is friendly, and they make an effort at offering a good mix of imported UK beers and domestic offerings in sessionable styles not unfamiliar to the drinking Briton. The menu is what sets this place’s feet firmly in Greenwich Mean Time, though. Pasties, chips, fish, a stilton burger, beef and kidney pie. All worth a bite for sure. All reasonably priced. Even more reasonable at happy hour. I will absolutely be back for more. |
88 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Excellent selection of PNW beers and foreign imports in addition to a great tap list. Unlike most bottle shops with taps, there’s plenty of seating. Wish this place was in my neighborhood. |
88 /100 14679 NE 95TH ST Not the greatest location, in sort of an industrial complex, but great beers and a cool feel. Very knowledgeable staff. |
58 /100 Malt and Vine (Beer Store) 16851 REDMOND WAY Staff is pretty unhelpful, and seem pretty aloof. Like they don’t really enjoy what they’re doing. |
