Mekong Restaurant (Restaurant)
6004 WEST BROAD STREET
“Odd that a Vietnamese restaurant has such an incredible selection of beer. The ambiance is interesting and they have an outdoor patio outback with lots of parking. They have ~50 taps. Uber over and visit both Mekong and their neighbor.“

“A nice ambiance with an outside patio and lots of space inside. They have a lot of beer on tap both theirs and guest taps. The service is good and the food is decent.“

“Another r purposed light industrial space in Scott's Addition. Simple, sparse interior, but roomy. Music and TVs going. No parking issues. Fast, friendly service. Flights, nice variety.“

“Not much you can say about Total Wine. They all seem almost identical to me, except for what you find on the shelves. I did think that this outlet had an exceptonial variety of Regional craft, with almost an entire aisle of singles. There was no shartage of new breweries for me try. Whiel I couldn't get everything I wasn't disappointed with the haul I got.“

“Stop on my rush through Scott's Addition. Nice large open space, lots of tables, wood and brick. Good service and nice tap selection. Running on empty at this point, so my notes are brief.“

“Last stop for me in Scott's Addition. I was kind of tired, so all of the cylinders weren't firing. A large dark space, huge bar, kind of glitzy. Taps took me a while to figure out as I had some trouble figuring out what I wanted as there were alot of sours and beers I wasn't interested in. Settled for an IPA. Service was good, place was nice, but my mood wasn't so I left unimpressed. This is more on me than them, but I don't have an desire to go there again.“

“Next stop in Scott's Addition. Fairly modern set up, with inside and outside seating options. Flights and crowlers available. Good, knowledgable staff. A bit more of a crowd than Strangeways.“

“My first stop in Scott's Addition. Uncrowded on a Friday night with live music in the beer garden. Interrio is kinf of spare, heavy wooden tables, dimly lit. Quick, friendly service. Tap list is sorted by style. Everyhing available in taster pours.“

“Located in Carytown, a funky place that looks like a few places cobled together. Nice sidewalk patio, or a deep, dark interior bar. Good service and great selection of taps. Lots of regional craft. Other places in the neighborhood too, so you can spend an afternoon there.“

“Met up with some local friends here, they recommneded this place. Surprised it has not been added yet. The name says it all, pizza (whcih is good) and 48 taps of beer. Lots of regional craft on tap. Patio available. Located in a cool neighborhood in Richmond, so it was pretty lively. Parking can be scarce though. Well worth a visit and Kregger's is a half block away.“

“Last stop of the day. Really cool layout and design, using old factory equipment as design elements. Dedicated parking. Location on bike trail Drew a stream of cyclists. Good service, but the beer was kind of mundane. All the IPAs we're pretty indistinguishable from each other. Worth a visit for the vibe alone.“

“Tucked away in Shockoe Bottom, parking can be an issue. Interior is a little bit worn around the edges and pretty compact. Makeshift patio on the sidewalk. Staff was very attentive and they had about 8 to 10 taps. Beer was overall decent. It was nice to see a place down in this part of the town where I used to hang out a long long time ago.“

“Headed over here after Stone. Taproom in their production facility, pretty spacious. Food available, nice pizza oven. Didn't go too deep on the tap list. Tried their "bitter" ( see review). Lots more customers than Stone. Would like to explore their tap list a little more. Nice atmosphere“

“Surprisingly dead on a Thursday late afternoon. Large, open wood and steel space, primarily designed for their brewery tours. Mostly flagship beers on tap. Collets with to-go product available. Patio is a nice outside space with a raised wood n nature walk along the riverbank of the James. Definitely worth a stop, near the airport.“

“Visit Date: 6/17/21 This place is beautiful, huge building, tons of outdoor seating and even an outdoor bar. We went inside at first, then once we got outside never had a need to go back in. Outside setup is: Tables all around a large patio by the bar, tables under an outdoor tent, Adirondacks lined-up along the along the top of the hill overlooking the woods, and even some "private" cabana type seating you can reserve for larger groups. Definitely a cool spot. Beer-wise, they had a decent selection of their stuff. A lot of 10%+ beers on for the hot weather, but that is a small complaint (great deal price-wise as they were doing pretty large pours for not much $ of these barrel aged and boozy gems, just not something I want outside on a hot afternoon necessarily). Was surprised at the smaller # of drafts (just because this place is so massive they could probably have 25+ beers on easily without touching their capacity), but they had some cans available too, so that increased the variety of lagers and hops for the hot weather.“

“Visit Date: 6/14/21 (Currently opening at 12 on weekdays, not sure if that's permanent or a covid thing though.) Big spot right down the street from the Stone Richmond location, and in an area I literally never went to back when I was living in Richmond (but appears to have plenty going on these days). Big patio with ceiling fans and shade were the perfect place to sit on a warm Monday afternoon. Didn't spend much time inside, but it looked nice in there. There were a bunch of other areas outside as well with picnic tables, regular tables, and some Adirondack chairs throughout the property. No flights, but you could get many of the beers in half pours. Mostly hops with a few lagers on draft. Nothing dark at all on our visit. Every beer I tried from a cask bitter to NEIPAs were excellent. Only food I had was a pretzel, but it was tasty. Pizzas and other stuff looked good. Really liked this spot.“

“My favorite brewery in RVA...very chill vibe, awesome outdoor space, dog friendly, cozy industrial indoor space, great friendly service and most of all terrific beer. Wide variety of styles constantly rotating, but always balanced and smooth, never over the top or rushed.“

“Small winery slash brewery that's a little out of the way from other Richmond breweries. Friendly service and a nice airy place, with good deck seating area in a cool part of town. Flights available. They do a lot of sours and Belgian styles. Beer quality is the only trouble here - many below average beers at this place. Wouldn't recommend for this reason, given all the better options in Richmond.“

“Large location in the heart of Scott's Addition. Huge outdoor area, decent sized indoor area, but the inside is mostly made up of lines. Pre-COVID (not sure how it is now), the lines were just horrible. I don't blame them for their success, but the entire ordering process is just awful due to the lines. I'm really not sure how they can fix this, maybe some mobile taps scattered around the place on very busy days might help. It also doesn't help that the draft list on the day I was last there was almost entirely IPAs or Double IPAs or Triple IPAs that all kind of had that same-same feel to them. Good, but not much variety beyond a slightly different hop profile in many of them. Just not a super enjoyable experience compared to most of the other Scott's Addition venues I've been to.“

“Large Scott's Addition warehouse vibe, at least two bars, one in the front and one in the back. Lots of space to sit. Ciders are pretty good, ranging from slightly sweet to dry. Flights are a bit large, so it's hard to tick everything you want if you get more than one flight. Staff has always been nice the times I've gone.“

“Cool old warehouse build-out. Nice small patio on the side. Selection was decent, with a good number of to-go beers. Staff was really nice, though a bit slow for the time of day (it was close to opening and there weren't many people there). Solid beers on tap.“

“Decent place with an airy taproom. Not a lot here you can't get in bottles at Total Wine or wherever, and in the saturated Scott's Addition market I'd say this one is likely skippable. Friendly enough and pleasant enough as a place. Only half pours available right now in COVID times. Service OK.“

“Large cavernous space with some cool but stark decoration. Friendly enough for COVID times. There's good sandwiches as well next door. They don't do flights during covid, but did a few half pints at least. The good thing about this brewery is the beers they have in house seem far superior and much more diverse than the two or three they always export to the DC area, so it's definitely worth going here if in the area. Probably one of the best in Scott's Addition and area, especially since Hardywood and Ardent basically only have the same beers on tap you can find everywhere. The Belgians are especially good, sour and non sour.“

“Small but friendly brewery in the north end of Scott's Addition. Very friendly guys in here. They do flights and have a bunch of stuff you won't find elsewhere. Stuff verges on mostly average with a few quite good beers, the dark stuff.“

“Big outdoor area with a lot of picnic tables. Service is OK. When I visited they really didn't have much that wasn't commonly available, so wouldn't necessarily make an out of the way stop here if you're looking for special ticks. Around the corner from Castleburg and Main Line.“

“Old school style brewpub, kind of vaguely British in feel. Games and stuff in a corner by couch, hightop tables otherwise. Dimly lit place but cozy. Beers are fairly old school, simple but done very well, so this is a good place to visit if you're not chasing trends like hazies and fruit bomb sours. No flights available right now during pandemic. Friendly service. Just around the corner from Hardywood and Main Line.“

“Massive place with a huge concert outdoor picnic area and a food truck. Inside is sparsely decorated, really like a beer hall. Service pretty good even though it was busy and given the COVID times. Flights still available when it's not super busy, though I snuck one in. Beer is ok. Seems more about the venue.“

“Don't get the hype. First time we tried to visit, we couldn't get in. This time we arrived at opening time on a Tuesday. The staff was aloof and patronizing, distant and disinterested. The beers are OK (OK, they're good but not outstanding), but really nothing special in today's crowded market. The atmosphere is stale and cold, with a weird array of stuffed animals alongside threats of expulsion if you dare touch. A lot of very similar beers offered. Expensive, like $8 for 12 ounces. I'll go back to Triple Crossing, thanks. Brewery #901.“

“With The Veil, this place is a must in RVA. Came in for a flight and some Pho. The food is amazing and unusual given the vietnamese offerings. I had the vietnamese stew, with loads of beef, carrots and onions, and Vietnam bread, as well as spring rolls. The beer is the highlight, 4 X 6 ounces for 12$. They have a focus on big DIPAs and imperial stouts. Service was prompt and friendly. Free wifi and plenty of parking.“

“First beery stop in Scott's Addition, and we are starting strong.. Sours, goses, tipa, DIPA, and all the ipas. Lineups are probably normal here, but move relatively quickly. Choice of 6 ounces and 12 ounces, at around 5$ for the 6 ounces. No flights but little tastes given if you ask nicely. Wifi, funky industrial decor, little snack menu. Plenty of seating inside and out.“

“This is the third (I think) iteration of the Richbrau brand name, and it keeps getting less and less traditional, but maybe that's OK. Dropped in here unplanned pretty late on a Saturday night and ended up having a blast! It's a relatively small space, with an industrial but welcoming feel, kinda cozy on a chilly fall night. I only had the opportunity to drink one of the various offerings, but it was really, really good. Definitely will go back, given the opportunity. Happy place. Brewery #892.“

“Made the mistake of going to RVA for a brewery romp during the Richmond Marathon Weekend. Oops. The Answer was swamped. We gave up on The Veil because we were told the wait for a beer was an hour. Vasen was also overrun, but they seemed to be handling the stampeded better than others. It was packed, but we could get beers (very good) and a find a corner to socialize. I'll be back! “Made the mistake of going to RVA for a brewery run on the day of the Richmond Marathon. Oops. Place was MOBBED mid-afternoon on a Saturday. The staff was doing their best to keep up, but it was really slow. This place has a religious aura about it, of course. We'd been to Mekong, but a long time ago. Now this is like a whole little beer cult compound. The Answer draft list was almost exclusively IPAs, and the ones we tried were very similar and hard to discern. Of course there's also an impressive list of guest taps. We didn't eat, but there are some offerings. Clearly a place to stop in Richmond, but I oddly don't feel the need to return if I'm just visiting .... Brewery #890.“

“Visited on a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon. They're in a neat area of town, like an old 1950s "downtown" storefront. They were busy but not busting at the seams, and we could sit on their patio with our dogs. The tap list was vast, and 50% committed to IPAs, but they had some good variety. Service was spot-on, the beers we were able to enjoy were all good to very good. Will definitely return at my next opportunity! Brewery #889.“

“Visited the brewery on opening Saturday. It was slammed. The people serving us were great. I was able to buy some the canned beers for the road. Not a big place on 20 Street but near housing. The quality of the beer was excellent. Visited today for a pick-up. Well organized for auto traffic. The website worked well and the transaction was easy.“

“Wonderful location here. The outdoor seating is great - nice meadow, bridge by the canal, and view of the old train bridge lumbering away. Got here at opening and did some early work while I had a few brews. Everything was available in flights, including some hard to find Stone top brews and some locally brewed stuff I haven't seen before. Quality always top in the beer. Prices ok, and they have some nice swag. Friendly service.“

“Place downtown with a huge selection upstairs and a much smaller selection downstairs. Too bad because the downstairs is cooler. Upstairs has a little more character than a Denny's, but not much. “Walked in here the first time, sat at the bar and waited like 10 minutes for a drink. It was a Saturday and the line up for ordering was literally to the door. You'd think they'd hire another bartender, but then most breweries were like this in the area. Maybe they think lineups give them hype?? Anyway, beer available on flights. Mostly good stuff, though the stuff that ends up in D.C. tends to be better on average than the stuff I had at this brewery at least. Kind of a generic feel compared to places nearby.“
