78 /100 Kappy’s Liquors (Beer Store) 711 BOSTON RD. A mid-sized liquor store with LOTS of mega-beers and a reasonable selection of artisans. Their selections are a little eccentric and will vary month to month, one is very pleased to find such wonderful rarities as Enlightenment, Idle Hands, St. Bernardus here. They do a lot of weekend tastings but mostly of wines. Wine prices are a little high but beers and liquor are not, odd how this is. Sales help is very up to date and have tasted many of the less common offerings. Worth visiting for their craft beer selection. What you don’t find here may well be at the Beer Shop 6 miles away and vice-versa. Don’t be confused by other Kappy’s locations, including one farther to the West on Boston Road, this one is their primary for fine beers in Springfield. Different sites do not have the same stock. |
94 /100 Student Prince (Restaurant) 8 FORT STREET A destination. "The Fort" Good old fashioned German food. Excellent draft beer selection. Try the Half & Half beer & camembert cheese. |
98 /100 Smith’s Billiards (Bar) 207 WORTHINGTON ST Western mass best kept secret. Just upstairs from Theodore. Oldest pool hall in the US. Shuffleboard, foosball, darts and a GREAT beer selection. |
86 /100 Plan B (Restaurant) 1000 W COLUMBUS AVENUE Great beer selection. Great delicious food, excellent service. |
72 /100 Smith’s Billiards (Bar) 207 WORTHINGTON ST Visited on Sunday 19/05/13 around 5.30pm.
Downtown venue on the 2nd floor.
Old school billiard hall with 7 pool tables, plus a Fussball table.
Theres a few high chairs and tables around the edges for those not playing the tables.
10 taps, samples offered, 100+ bottles.
Friendly service and a good price on the pool tables.
Fun venue and worth a visit if in Springfield. |
68 /100 Plan B (Restaurant) 1000 W COLUMBUS AVENUE Visited for a late lunch on Sunday 19/05/13 around 3.30pm.
Plan B is located just out of downtown Springfield by the National Basketball Museum.
One largeish open plan room with seating largely in the form of booths of 4.
Solid enough offerings from the tap list and a decent bottle list to boot.
Food was fine, service a little rushed and erratic, they forgot a few things for no good reason as the lunch time rush had clearly died down!
Given the lmited number of good beer venues in and around Springfield this place is definately worth a visit. |

68 /100 Plan B (Restaurant) 1000 W COLUMBUS AVENUE Bright and loud. Very friendly, attentive service. The server gave me a hand-written list of the draught choices. Which is where their nest choices are. Menu is creative, if not extensive. Prices are fair. Beer choices are all American craft, except for the Blue Moon crap. Enough good choices to get you through the evening. |
82 /100 Plan B (Restaurant) 1000 W COLUMBUS AVENUE Very Good draft selection, always rotating, Knowledgeable staff.
Plus good burgers. |
84 /100 Smith’s Billiards (Bar) 207 WORTHINGTON ST Always very good choices on rotating taps. Plenty of bottles also. Good food from Theodores
Great pool hall |
86 /100 Smith’s Billiards (Bar) 207 WORTHINGTON ST My husband and I visit here nearly once a week for a beer or two and dinner. In the greater Springfield area, its the only place to find a decent selection of craft beers. The taps change often and offer a variety of styles to choose from. There is also a large selection of bottles. The atmosphere isn’t fancy but its comfortable. I bring all my out of town guests here. |
76 /100 Smith’s Billiards (Bar) 207 WORTHINGTON ST Came here with my buddy Pat (skibumphishead) and girl Brie in October 2010 while back in Western Mass for Phish and Phriends. This is a cool place. Basically looks like those pool halls you see in the movies, with tons of tables, air hockey and all that jazz. Had some pretty nice stuff on draught and the manager had a bunch of stuff from his "personal stash" which he offered us upon pat’s inquisition. Very nice dude and good beers shared with good friends. |
92 /100 Smith’s Billiards (Bar) 207 WORTHINGTON ST I moved to Springfield and I assumed that I would not find a go-to beer bar. I was ready to drive to Northampton every time I wanted a craft or rare beer at a pub. I was wrong. Smith’s has everything I want under one roof: pool tables, Boston sports on TVs, great service, great food and one of the best beer lists in Western Mass.
I am working on the mug club and stopping by at least once a week. If you are in Springfield or driving through, you should stop in. It is only a couple of blocks from Rt.91 and it is the best bar in the city.
