“In the shadow of Whitby Abbey, above the south bank side of the town. A basic taproom that can spread out into the brewing room and yard outside when there are music nights or events on. Only the brewery's own beers. On the Cleveland Way long distance footpath.“

“One of the growing band of railway station micropubs made possible by Network Rail's willingness to rent space on stations to people with good ideas. Decent array of cask beers and one-way keg options too. Not to be confused with the Station Inn. No food but if you are a foody who likes fish try the Star Inn The Harbour, near to the quay on the opposite side of the road“

“The best looking pub in Whitby, which is one of the best looking ports in the north of England. Classic small front bar and a sensitively extended back room. The usual British mish-mash of four cask ales, a couple of craft draught and a few cans and bottles. Cleverly constructed, small food. If in town, come here.“

“Really enjoyed my visit to this microbar that is part of the station buildings. Good ale and cider selection available. I chose Ashover 1910 Porter which was great.“

“We must have caught this 2019 Good Beer Guide pub on a bad day. It was friendly and very busy, but I am sorry the two beer we had from their on site brewery Lady Luck were so poor we left one of them. Dream Catcher and Unicorn were the two beers. There was a decent selection on the bar so we just chose the wrong beers I suppose.“

“Lovely little bottle shop. Good global selection, but the local stuff was brilliant. Really knowledgeable and friendly guy behind the counter who was very happy to talk me through the.options. In fact, it was warming to find someone so excited about the local beers. And he couldn't wait for his collaborative brew with Brass Castle. Prices were very good. Small bar next door, but as I was with the family that didn't happen.“

“Beer store located on pedestrian Grape Lane near the swing bridge over the harbour in centre of Whitby. Fantastic selection of bottled beers from local Yorkshire breweries, some ciders and international beers. Also has a tap room with 4 beers for drinking in. Fossil shop opposite kept the family occupied while I was reviewing the selection and the Captain Cook Memorial museum is just along the lane. A must visit when in Whitby.“

“Nice pub just a small climb away from the river. Good selection of ales, 8 casks, not the usual stuff available in almost every other pub. Stayed there for couple of pints and to watch the Premiership game. Would revisit.“

“Small off-licence in the higher part of town, opposite Botham’s Tea rooms. The beer range is just a few local breweries on some shelves just in front of the window. It’s ok and worth popping in if you are in that part of town.“

“Large conversion of a previous hotel in the centre of town, close to the harbour. Initially I thought that the bar area was quite small, but on investigation there seemed to be several rooms both at harbour level and High Street level. Well kept, clean and tidy with a few local guest ales. Worth a look.“

“Handily placed right by the Bus Depot in the centre of town, so after being thrown about the North Yorks Moors it’s a good one to settle down in. Stripped back wooden floors and furnishings, little snugs to calm down in and a horseshoe bar serving the bar and lounge areas. The beer choice is on the safe side, not really that much to offer the beer hunter, but what was on seemed popular. Good place.“

58 /100 MARKET PLACE
“Fairly big, open bar in a wooden-beamed building, with terraces facing the harbour. Great views from the leather sofas just inside. However, if you’ve got kids you’ll be banished to the dark, dirty room at the end. Service was a total mess, the waitress basically had great difficulties even entering our order into the till. They have 5 cask ales, two of which were Conquest of Whitby when we were there. The food was perfectly decent. Overall a good place if you don’t have kids and don’t get the wrong waitress.“

“An old hotel that’s recently been refurbished, and turned into a combined bar and hotel. The style is very modern and classy. Big outdoor seating, and huge area inside over two floors. Very much a tourist place. Service is variable, but never bad. The downstairs bar often sells out its cask ales, but the upstairs bar has more (and different!) ales, so make sure to check it out. Food is good, and cheap. The two bars put together have a very good selection of cask ales. Good place to find Rudgate, for example.“

“A perfectly normal little off-licence that happens to have a little shelf by the window with maybe 20 local ales from Cropton, Captain Cook, Great Newsome and others. They have some macro stuff as well, but this is the interesting part. Nice, friendly service.“
