54 A nice ambiance, especially the outdoor patio, good food and a decent selection of beer. Great place to watch sports or hang out with friends and shoot pool. |
40 A nice looking pub just a short walk from the Botanical Gardens but nothing of note here. Horrible beer selection featuring over-priced macro swill only. Heaving with drunken folk late on a Saturday arvo. Can safely be missed on a crawl around town. |
58 Large place with tons of outdoor tables, set up like a British pub. Live music and school boy rugby on when I visited. Only one craft beer, from Black Dog, everything else was Monteiths. No interesting bottles. Very tasty fish and chips, and locals/regulars said that all the food is good. Taxis waiting out front were a big help. |
62 wednesday night, very crowded and noisy inside. however a wonderful looking place. it’s hard to rate the selection of this place, as there were essentially three bars - one outside, one inside and one upstairs. didn’t get to see the outside one, but the large majority of the taps were mainstream, with a couple of craft brews poking around. great looking food, only had the chip butty myself but it was well-priced and fantastic. all in all a great mainstream pub, very friendly and accepting. |
68 First of all the likes: I like the staff and service, they’re friendly, considerate and professional; I like the location and decor; the food is good pub fare; and there’s good entertainment and friendly locals.
The dislikes: the beer selection is almost entirely from one of the dominant two New Zealand macro breweries.
Overall a good pub, and given the current circumstances, worth a million in prizes. |
