COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DR16 is a full bodied beer with layers of complexity. There is a deep, rich maltiness that is balanced by the artful use of smoked malt. While the smoke character is present, it is more subdued than you would find in a rauchbier. There is a subtle Noble hop aroma and a slight caramel character that becomes more prominent as the beer warms up. The Kölsch yeast adds a light fruitiness. DR16 has a moderately-high bitterness that is balanced nicely by its residual malty sweetness, and there is no lack of alcohol warmth as you easily finish a pint. DR16 comes in right at 10% ABV. This beer is ready to enjoy now but will also cellar well cold for at least five years. The Adambier style was popular in Dortmund, Germany until the mid-19th century, when Pilsners and Munich-style lagers began to take over. Eventually, the style became largely extinct until recently, as more and more breweries look to their brewing roots.

Delirium (687) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 28, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2018 Draught at the Saint Arnold Beer Garden & Restaurant. Pours dark amber-brown with a tan head. Roasted malt and sweet-fruit aroma, with a bit of smoke, though not over the top smoky. Flavor is similar, a bit sweet and nutty with only a hint of smoke, and a bit of booze. Pretty interesting. Billed as a stronger and smoky altbier, which I suppose fits.

Deep clear dark Amber under a foamy big light tan head. Smoky aroma that’s also sweet and fruity with subtle cherry and currant and caramalty booze. Big bold flavor that’s smokey with tones of sausage and whatnot but also semi fruity and semisweet with Barleywine esque tones of fruit, berries, definite booze and caramalt. Interesting.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2016 Always complex beers. Aromas and flavors of strong malt with some smoke and caramel. Slight hops presence. Well balanced. Nice deep color and medium weight. Would like to see how it ages.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and smoke. Taste is roasted malt, smoke, chocolate notes, and perhaps a hint of dark fruit. Not bad.

Aroma: smoky and slightly fruity; Appearance: very dark amber with thin, offwhite head that lingers; Taste: follows nose with unpleasant malty finish; Overall: not my favorite style; would not buy again.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06 pour dark cola brown with thin ecru head. Nose raisin, light peat and smoke, hint of anise. Taste sweeter malt up front, raisin and plum, then smoked peat, light peppery spice. Fairly complex flavor progression.

Bottle in trade from blutt59, thanks again! Pours a slightly hazy deep brown color with a small off white head that slowly recedes. Rich caramel and toffee with hints of smoke and licorice. The flavor is more of the smoke than the caramel with a bit of dark fruitiness in there as well. Initially I thought the smoke was a bit to pronounced, but it kind of grew on me. Pretty nice sipper.

Beer description starts off with " complex" that about sums it up. Aroma has smoky, peat malts with some medicinal qualities, as it warms a touch of fruitiness and chocolate comes in. The body looks like flat cola, some yeast floaters, the head is thin and clinging to the side of the glass. The flavor is all over the place smoky, peaty, fruity, caramel, booze. Overall an interesting beer for sure.
