Cantillon “Spuyten Duyvil” is a hand blended lambic that has been laid down on a small portion of New Jersey Cranberries brewed specifically for Spuyten Duyvil. The Cranberries are subtle but the beer is not. Full on, tart, leathery and super complex in both aroma and palette. There are 23, 6 bottle cases and 1 keg

750 mL bottle, number 112/168. Can’t remember who traded this to me back in the day, but thank you anyways.
Darker than expected, with a brilliant ruddy-golden body, nicely clear, with plenty of life to it yet. Small white head fades quickly away.
The nose is decidedly "soft", with mild wood tannin, easygoing brett and even a touch of honey-like maltiness. Very homogeneous are the acids, and though there’s no trace of cranberry, there’s still a good, light fruitiness to it from the bacteria and/or brett. Funk has faded quite a bit, though there are light cellar/must qualities and a touch of horseblanket. No oxidation, no alcohol, no flaw.
In the mouth it’s surprisingly "sweeter" than I expected. Not an underfermented sweetness, but I found it in Bourgogne as well, and I’m not entirely sure what causes it. Almost a honey-like character. Some softned lactic acids add a yogurty-citric character that helps balance, while an almost tea-like character takes hold as well (oak plus brett? Not sure). Not overly sour, though over the course of the glass, a fair amount of acidity does collect on the side and back of the mouth. Carbonation is moderate to low, fairly engaging still, with a soft, wheat and tannin-driven texture. Tartness and acidity linger enjoyably, quite well-balanced. Reminds much of the classic gueuzes from this period (which makes sense), minus the big sulfur notes those generally had when a bit younger.
Probably a bit tired overall, but certainly still very enjoyable to drink/sip and in great condition, other than just being quite easygoing/mild, low in carbonation and lightly sweet. Well, that was fun, I guess I’ll never drink that again!

Pours a light Amber with very little head. There’s very little cranberry here but that has resulted in a fruit lambic that isn’t as sour as others with a more prominent fruit profile.

Props to my Carnal on this one. Was lucky to be among the ones who enjoyed this gem. Hazy yellow pour. Raspberries were hard to pick out, but you know some fruit did its thing in there and left its mark. Nice carbonation, sour that lingers. Solid beer! Worth the hype. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ Summer tasting. Thanks everyone involved in scoring this one. This is crazy, a great and unique beer. The cranberries are a little difficult to pick up and you get more of the tart skins and tannins. Oaky and pleasantly tart.

750ml bottle at pre-ghost tasting in NY 7/27/2013. Though there was no discernible cranberry presence, this pour was heavy on the fruit skins and tannins. Despite the naysayers, it most definitely had a distinct flavor profile from a gueuze of its age. I was shocked to see just how much tartness and bracing acidity there was here.. really a marvelous pour from a bottle that had seemingly faded into obscurity. What a surprise. Had a second 375 ml bottle at the lambic tasting in Stockholm at Magnus’ place, 11/13. Thanks to Ludvig for sharing. High consistency with the previous bottle I tried, very nice tannin presence and very comparable to other 2005 era lambic, with just a bit extra. Has been a pleasure to try this beer several times thanks to some generous folks.

Diego my friend, I owe you big time. My #1 want slayed. Incredible generosity. Pours a hazed gold/yellow with a pillowy white head. The flavor is much like a very well aged gueuze but there’s a hint of a sour fruit lingering. This bottle has held up well and was a treat to drink.

Bottle - thanks Forgetfu, Daknole, and Maltzilla for making this one appear - pour a hazy yellow/orange. Smells tart with a hint of cranberry. The taste was sour and tart with some cranberry on the end. This was nice, real nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
