FatPhil (22608) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAR 16, 2021
UPDATED: MAR 22, 2021 Tap (TankerFest 2019, Juri), (7:4:7:3:14=3.5) Mahogany, small tight beige head. Bocky roasty aroma. Sweeter taste, but nice dryness, almost woody. Full and smooth, but not too sticky or sweet in the mouth. Good doppelbock, has all the things I like, rye-ish bready malts, and, best of all, the alcohol's very decently covered. Quite an indulgence, but not drinkable in huge quantities.

midovark (4274) - Budapest, HUNGARY - MAR 23, 2020
UPDATED: MAR 23, 2020 Bottle at home, cellared this one for a year. Pours deep copper with quickly disappearing beige head. Nose is sweet boozy, it actually reminds me of bourbon. Toasted malts, biscuits, caramel, a touch of hay and honey. Taste is sweet booze again, bready malts, toasted notes, honey, vanilla. Light to medium body, soft carbonation, closes with a long lasting, warmingly sweet finish. Lovely.

The flavour is moderate to strong sweet witn a smooth, rich, slightly oily, sweet toffee malt, fruity, light warm alcohol bitter palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation. This is how to make a doppelbock!

bilcho1 (1487) - Ruse, BULGARIA - NOV 18, 2018
330ml bottle shared at a tasting at Za RazBIRAchi. Pours almost clear without much head, minimal lacing and no visible rising carbonation. Deep garnet in colour. On the nose, intense caramel malts matched by hints of herbs and complex yeasty apricot and raisin - reminiscent of an Abbey Dubbel. In the mouth, lower than average carbonation (how many times have I written that about Mad Scientist beers?) mild bitterness, sweetness that rises through the palate into the aftertaste, medium to thick texture, some estery flavours similar to the aromas but with strong complex caramel malts, mild to mid bitterness with a good crisp clean finish leaving a pleasant subtle sweetness. Overall, a deep, complex, flavorsome and well-balanced Doppelbock
