UPDATED: SEP 14, 2021 500ml bottle, 2013 vintage. Dark fruit aroma with notes of caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak, bourbon and booze. Pours deep toffee brown colored with a thin tan head that has little retention and lacing. Starts with rich caramel, taste and dark fruit flavors as well as having a rich, full body and slick, boozy mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with vanilla, oak and bourbon flavors as well as warming booze at the end. Good stuff!

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2021 (2017) I was impressed with this one. Starts with a rather small beige head and a sludgy brown appearance. Nose is dark fruits, deep sweet malts, toffee and woodiness. Came across with some sweet earthy trappist features. Very smooth feel with a brilliant masking of a high ABV. Overripe stone fruit, berries, molasses, oak, yeast. Excellent.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2020 2017 version. Smells of heavy bourbon barrel, very sweet. Thin looking reddish/brown appearance. Some oak barrel in the taste, dark fruit, chocolate. Thin palate, warm finish. This was good, but I feel it is overpriced and not worthy of double 100 ratings.

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2019 WOW! Jak się cieszę, że się udało spróbować takiej perełki. Ciemno-herbaciane, miedziane, rude, przejrzyste, klarowne. Piany nie ma, ale w sumie nawet się nie spodziewałem. Aromat łączący trzy światy - barley wine, quadrupla i bourbon.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2019 It is brown with a bit of hazing. It has a tan head with no head retention. The initial aromas are of toffee and molasses with bourbon notes mixed in. The alcohol is noticeable in the aroma with some sherry like elements. There are very low notes of dried fruit. The initial flavors are highlighted by bourbon mixed with molasses and toffee. The alcohol is very noticeable in the flavor. There is a background flavor from chocolate and dried fruits. It also has a slight sherry like quality to it. It has a full body, but it is not quite chewy in texture. The alcohol is slightly hot on the palate. The carbonation is very low. Overall, a complex array of flavors and aromas that blend well together.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2019 500ml bottle @ Erik's. 2013 Vintage, cellared for 6 years. Pours a very hazy brown colour with a thin tan head. Nose is bourbon barrels, dark dried fruits, and light caramel. Flavour is delicious toffee, burnt caramel, and a pleasant amount of bourbon. Medium to light bodied, good carbonation, and high sweetness with a pleasant bourbon warming character. Wow, this has held up well and I'm guessing the bourbon is masking the oxidation well, if any.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2019 Caramel and bourbon barrel notes. Cloudy dark brown with a small white head. Nice bourbon notes and lots of toffee and a caramel. A touch of heat but nice.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2020 Reviewed on 3/6/2014: 2009 Vintage 13.5% ABV - opened about a month or two ago (Early 2014) but forgot to review. Pretty much one of the best beers I had. I knew what I was getting into cause love the regular old stock and tried the bourbon barrel Old Rasp. More character and sweetness than regular Old Stock, and I'm pretty sure the aging made a difference. I bought it somewhere in 2012. Not overly sweet from the bourbon but it's in there for sure. A complex brew with Belgian-like flavors but still has that American barleywine feel. Even given the price, I would still get this again!
