FlacoAlto (4421) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - JAN 17, 2021UPDATED: JAN 17, 2021 A steady pour produces a one-finger thick, pale, white colored head. The beer is a hazy, straw golden color that shows a milky opaque hue when held up to the light. Ripe citrus zest first hits the nose, but then there is a hint of soap, that I can't quite put my finger on, but is not detracting. The aroma is not as expressive as I was expecting. Aromas of tangerine zest, kumquat, a bit of lychee, and a bit of nutty / dank hemp,
Lots of citrus & tropical fruit flavors jump out as the first sip hits my palate, the flavor is more expressively hoppy than the aroma (which is usually the opposite of most beers). The bitterness lingers from beginning to end with a soft, but noticeable hop bite. Lots of guava, tangelo zest, kumquat zest, lychee, apricot, menthol, woody herbal notes, green-woody pepper notes. The herbal hop character seems to accentuate a warming alcohol note here. The lactose is not noticeable in and of itself, which is nice, and I am guessing it is supporting the hop flavors for the boost they are getting compared to the nose. The body is nice, light and quaffable, but has a bit of palate viscosity that makes it interesting.
A tasty beer, definitely enjoyable, but it seems to have a few things that keep it from being phenomenal; the aroma is far too muted, and there is a hot-note to the flavor that is very subtle, but shouldn't really be here.
