UPDATED: JAN 11, 2022 Polycask at GBBF 2011, Earl's Court 04/08/2011 Fruity aroma. Golden coloured and a little dry on the palate with a hint of bitterness in a lasting tannin finish.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2019 14/5/2019. Sample from Reading Beer and Cider Festival 2019 courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed! Pours almost clear pale gold with a small bubbly short lasting head. Aroma of sweet apples, brown sugar, wood and light cider vinegar. Moderate sweetness, minimal bitters and tartness. Moderate body, slight oily and watery texture, soft carbonation. A little more tartness develops to finish complimenting the sweetness quite nicely. Dry, slightly astringent finish. Thought it wasn’t too bad.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2019 BIAB at Reading Beer & Cider Festival 2019. Orangey gold colour, no head and aroma of sick, vinegar, tart apple. Taste is solventy apple, vinegary hints, with biscuit, cardboard oxidised notes. Medium bodied, low carbonation, dry solventy finish. OK, tastes abit oxidised

500ml bottle @ the 7th Shrewsbury Bottle Share as part of our significant others’ ’cider share’. Thanks to Leah. Pours still, cloudy orange-yellow. Cheesy aroma. Taste is traditional farmhouse scrumpy, tangy, acidic apples with horseblanket and barnyard elements. Lacking fruitiness.

Cask (Bitter Virtue, Southampton) - Hazy golden in colour. Enticing aroma of apples and some plastic (not a bad thing at all!). The taste is fruity and moderately tart with some acidic elements. Very refreshing and easy to drink. It certainly doesn’t taste its strength!

From polycask at Great British Beer Festival, day 3, on 4 August 2011. Didn’t notice any branding on the barrel and noted this down as "146 cider medium dry" but maybe I was just not being very observant as the 146 website and Facebook page definitely says this was the one sent to GBBF. Also noted the ABV as 6.7% which differs from the picture on the 146 website, which suggests 6.5%. Anyway, this was a gold coloured cider with slight "rubbery" notes (I know what I mean and it’s not a criticism as such) and plenty of fruit in the aroma. Fairly dry on the palate with a solid tannin presence and a little acidity. Quite firm for a "Southern" cider but perhaps they are buying in some traditional cider apples as well/instead of the culinary/dessert varieties often used in that area. I’d never heard of this producer before and this was an enjoyable introduction.
