COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Monk’s Blood pays homage to the monks of Belgium’s monasteries who have been brewing some of the world’s great beer for centuries. During times of fasting, the monks subsist solely on beer, which they refer to as “liquid bread”. Beer, quite literally, is in their blood. The most sublime of the monk’s premium brews is dark like blood, rich and nourishing. 21st Amendment founders Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan traveled to Belgium to develop the recipe for this special beer, visiting small, traditional breweries in the hop fields of west Flanders, not far from the famous Trappist abbey of Westvleteren. Monk’s Blood is designed to pair beautifully with rich winter stews, creamy cheeses, unctuous desserts or just by itself, in a Belgian tulip glass, with a good book by the fire.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2020 April 5th, 2016 - This dark and fruity beer is a fun and interesting experience, and not easily replicated in other brews or breweries. In a shaker pint it looks just like a Coca Cola, and smells of craisins, chocolate covered cherries and cinnamon crusted almonds. With all these strong aromas I thought the flavor might be quite strong, but it's actually mild up front, and blossoms on the aftertastes, with gentle and light notes of cherry, and candy coated almonds, and somewhere in the back, a slight oakiness.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2020 12 oz. can. Pours a dark, ruby, brown color, with a medium, beige head. The nose is dates, black cherries, cinnamon, agave, and black pepper. A little dry, with a yeasty, lightly phenolic finish. Heavy body, with a hard, chewy mouthfeel. This is a pretty solid, enjoyable belgian-style.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2020 Brown with thick head. Alcohol and caramel and nutty aroma, reminds me of a barleywine. Thick and hearty flavor, sweet malt backbone with an alcohol and woody flavor. Hints of dessert at the finish.

There are low levels of spice in the background. It has raisin and dark cherry flavors balance with some bread. There is a moderate warming presence. There are some low spice elements in the background. It has a medium full body with smooth alcohol warming. Overall, plenty of bread, dark cherry, and raisin elements.

rja (867) - BREDA, NETHERLANDS - MAR 3, 2019
UPDATED: APR 3, 2020 There are some fruit and raisin tastes linguering but not as much as I did expect from other reviews. The main flavor is Sugar with Cinnamon. Beneath that all is a nice beer with a complex taste. For me this is another belgian style Christmas ale or winter ale.

This beer has a very unique taste. A lot of dark fruits with a nice vanilla flavor. A very distinct flavorful finish. It hides the alcohol very well. I like it. Well done!
