jgb9348 (9218) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - SEP 1, 2018Beer #10 of my #7000 Beer Celebration - 7 on either side of the milestone.
Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, deep tan head, about three centimetres tall at first that dies down to just about nothing a few minutes later. Aroma of slightly tart pitted fruits with a ton of prune, fig, raisin, grape and earthy malt notes with some pecans and other nuts noticeable as well. A touch of peat and lightly smoked malt are also around the edges with a lot of sweetness noticeable and not really any alcohol at all. Medium-bodied; Assertive earthy and nutty malt flavours show at first with a big hit of the pitted fruits, sweet fig and raisin flavours with a dose of pure grapes and even some pears, but a tart blueberry and almost citrus note is noticeable, but this really showcases the malt. Aftertaste is a good deep blend of malts, sugars, yeast and pitted/stone fruits that shows a good tart flavour and some subtle complexities throughout. Overall, a very nice beer that doesn't really show like a 'pure' traditional ale, but fairly close and interesting regardless of the style and good to try if you can find it without spending a ton of money. I sampled this pint-sized, sixteen ounce can purchased from Merchant's in Dearborn, Michigan on 10-December-2016 for US$7,99 (a good deal of money) sampled at home in Washington on 26-August-2018.
