altonbrownd (5922) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - NOV 22, 2016Bottle from Total Wine & Co., McLean. Nice amber body with thin head. Nose is malts, caramel, toasty. Hops in the taste for sure with some malty notes. Dry finish. Pretty good.
JDBaker11058 (3632) - Sandy Spring, Maryland, USA - SEP 17, 2016 appearance: deep coppery red, short and creamy light tan head, minimal lacing. aroma: floral and grassy hops, over some caramel malts. taste: toasty brown bread, caramel, hint of light molasses, then some citrus and floral hops. finish: hoppy finish, a bit dry. notes: A fine amber. Hop forward, but relatively balanced. Didn’t stand out too much. Draft at Barrel and Bushel Beerfest 2016.
kidobutai (708) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - JUL 2, 2016Poured from a bottle. Good head but short lived. Intriguing copper -red color, not quite clear though. Good sweet aroma, fruity, tart taste and a little bitter.
PorterPounder (10071) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - FEB 17, 2016Williamsburg, Va - on tap at the Alewerks Taproom. Cloudy light Amber pour with a Light off-white head. Fish tank aroma, slightly off-putting. Hint of pomegranate fruitiness, brief caramel sweetness and citrus bitterness, somewhat muddled.
DavoleBomb (1867) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 11, 2016Poured into a pint glass. Bottle.
3.25 A: Clear deep amber brown color. One and a half fingers of frothy off-white head. Retention is below average but a short ring of lacing is left.
3.5 S: Definitely hop forward. Floral with some early citrus notes. A touch of earthy hops underneath. Caramel maltiness with toastiness and a touch of cracker.
2.75 T: The taste is poorly balanced for an amber ale. There’s not enough malt character. Moderate bitterness with a touch of tanginess to it. Earthy mountain stream component. There’s some caramel and toastiness again, but it’s not strong enough and it comes off as slightly watery.
2.5 M: Lighter watery body. It could use a touch more carbonation. Lacking creaminess too. Not a big fan here.
2.75 D: It’s not horrible, but it’s well below average for the style.

Emeister84 (3280) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAR 15, 2015Peanutty aromas, doughy, modeling clay, some citrus. Clear dark red with a fully lasting khaki head. Dry, nutty, some citrus. Medium bodied.
tnkw01 (2854) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 22, 2014Bottle. Clear, reddish color. Aroma is the pleasant floral type hoppy smell. Taste is pretty good too. Love the mild floral hops that are a tad bitter but not the smack you in face kind.
odusurfer (10) - Virginia, USA - OCT 13, 2014Bottle from wegmans in northern va. Pours and smells like a good red ale, but has a fairly strong bitter aftertaste. Its decent, but the aftertaste kinda did it in for me. Not the best red I’ve had, not the worst.
Bulk_Carrier (6064) - Vermont, USA - JUN 25, 2014Reviewed from notes.
This one was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy amber to red color with a small one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing.
The smell had a decent rolling caramel maltiness invading my nose that leveled off a bit as it warmed.
The taste was mainly malty sweet with a light bitter kick close to the end.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed appropriate and didn’t have anything that told me this was bad.
Overall, not a bad American Amber/Red. I’d probably get it again the next time I’m in Virginia.
