tmoreau (7963) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - APR 4, 2021
UPDATED: APR 4, 2021 Shared 2014, 750 ml. bottle poured to a small snifter displaying a lightly murky, brown tone, with a decent layer of tan froth, and foamy spots of lacing. The nose was lurking alcohol, cognac & barrel hints, heavy malt, caramel/brown sugar sweetness, and dried fruit. Medium to full bodied, the taste was as the aroma notes, almost cloyingly sweet, with very warming alcohol, and a hop presence that still kept some bittering character. Cellared well.

jsquire (6238) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - MAY 20, 2020
UPDATED: MAY 20, 2020 Out of a waxed can. Black color with a short lived beige head that shrank to nothing. Great bourbon barrel nose with lots of alcohol and ripe fruit. So rich. So much chocolate, vanilla, molasses, cherries, toffee, bourbon and oak. Lots of alcohol. Great finish. So good.

neongolden (3888) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - APR 30, 2019
UPDATED: APR 30, 2019 (375ml 2017 bottle shared @ Nische's tasting, thanks Otso!) Pours clear deep mahogany with a tiny tan head. Rich notes of dark rye bread, toffee, molasses, deep wood and heavy grape and cognac accents, dates, touch oxidized but I think it’s the barrel. Quite sweet up front, very high flavour concentration but not cloyingly sugary either. Massive into the finish, with a long cognac aftertaste, some toasty nutty roast and spent coffee in there but still above lightly sweet. Full viscous body with very soft carbonation and no real alcohol. Big indulgent beer, the barrel is very sympathetic to the base here and integrates well; only after having variants does one fully appreciate how much it's doing. Super sipper.
