UPDATED: MAR 26, 2021 Extra toegevoegd door Sander aan mijn bestelling bij Poseidon Beers van 1-03-2021 en thuis geleverd door Sander himself op 2-03-2021. Augustijn Grand Cru is een bier gebrouwen door Brouwerij Van Steenberge uit Ertvelde, met een gist die overgeërfd werd van de Paters Augustijnen uit Gent die het al brouwden sinds 1295. Ook de receptuur en de kennis van de receptuurbeheerder Janus werden overgeërfd. De herlancering van Augustijn in 1982 droeg bij tot het succes van de brouwerij. AUGUSTIJN GRAND CRU is een helder goud-geel bier dat veel rotsachtig schuim produceert, het vormt een mooi ‘toreken’ en blijft goed stabiel. Op het eind heb je nog steeds een fijne laag van bijna 5 mm dikte. Het blijft sterk aan je glaswand kleven en er zijn veel fijne CO2 belletjes zichtbaar. Geen gistdepot in het flesje. HET AROMA: Zoetig, banaan, peer, mout, floraal hoppig, en als het bier wat warmer geworden is ook een alcoholtint. DE SMAAK: Zoet, wat gistbitter, banaan, mout, floraal hoppig en een alcoholtoets. HET MONDGEVOEL: Volle body en een volmondige textuur. Een medium koolzuurprikkel. DE NASMAAK: Vloeit uit, is zoet-romig, wat gistbitterheid, mout en een alcoholtint. Op het eind van de afdronk volgt een lichte wrangheid. HET TOTAALGEVOEL: Een harmonieus bier. HET VERDICT: De alcohol laat zich hier goed gelden en gaat goed samen met de romige zoetheid. Enkel op het eind volgt na de alcoholtoets een wat wrangere afdronk. Ondanks de vele andere eerder lichtere prikkels en smaken een mooi harmonieus biertje waar ik geen nee tegen zeg. UPDATED: SEP 29, 2020 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a slightly hazy golden/yellow colour with a large throthy white head. Aromas of bananas, pears, hints of floral and bready notes. Taste is the same notes as the aroma with some added sweet malt flavour. Fullish body with a very lively high carbonation mouthfeel. Not bad.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2020 Stubby bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours an amber colour with a firm, upstanding white head. Sweet malt flavour with some complex hop notes;- candy sugar, banana, cherries, spices, yeast and old leather. Great appearance with a rich colour and a fine, long-lasting head. Very good mouthfeel, even though the alcohol is not very well disguised. A good Abbey-style beer.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2020 330ml bottle at Cafe Gollem, Amsterdam on 13/12/2009. Thick white head on a hazy golden beer. Strong carbonation in this. Fruity, grainy and strong bready yeasty aroma.

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2020 Cold on hot day. Smell-weak caramel, malt, fruits. Foam- thin, caramel, acidic, weak sour notes, weak alcohol, weak malt. Head is medium, white color. Appearance- beer specific bottle cap, simple bottle label. Clear yellow amber, medium carbonation. From - snifter Taste - malt, acidic, caramel, alcohol, a bit of sweetness. Faint Belgian notes in mix mixed with alcohol. Not the best example, but drinkable still.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2020 Aroma; malts, sweet caramel, syrup, plum, yeast, flower, hops. Look; snow-white big standing head on veiled golden body. Taste; sweet syrup, soft malts, flowers, yeast, hops, herbs, spices, banana, citrus, roasted malts, and leading to a well malted lingering finish. Feel; good body n co². Overall; well brewed.
