A beer that has a dominant malty taste. This beer’s origins in a monk’s recipe are reflected in its heartiness. The Pope of Beers, Conrad Seidl, describes it as: “Almost black with a very slight red tone, a sensational, festive foam and truly extraordinary fragrance that at first summons up visions of greaves lard. The first taste is of mild fullness with an accompanying coffee tone, which becomes more dominant with the aftertaste. There is very little of the sweetness that is frequently to be tasted with doppelbock beer.” The Ayinger Celebrator has been ranked among the best beers of the world by the Chicago Testing Institute several times and has won numerous medals. 18.5°

This one really surprised me. First that I could find it in Atlanta, secondly that I really enjoyed (am enjoying, 1/2 way through) it. Very dark color. Could not see any light through it, extremely dark. Chocolately(?) taste. Very malty, not very bitter at all. Very thick and chewy. Very pretty head on it. All around really nice beer.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2021 Bottle online from The Trembling Madness. Pours a deep mahogany colour with a thinnish creamy beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, berries, caramel and toasty brown bread. Taste is more dark fruits, fruit cake, caramel, chocolate, a touch smoky and nutty, also a burnt roasty bitterness and a touch of brown sugar on the finish. Medium body, low carbonation and smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. Nice.
