Pours dark brown with thin beige lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, toasted malts, brown sugar. Taste is light sweet and adstringent, a bit medicinal. Light body, average carbonation.

The strong chocolate smell is the first thing you notice. The taste follows its aroma, but with a glitch of coffee. However, it is a bit too sweet. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Backer Brown Escura (BR) - Brown Ale - 4.8% - 3.7/5

35 cl bottle from a market in SP, 9R$. Nice design. Dark brown color, red in see-thru, thick creamy brownish head, long lasting, looks very cool. Toasted nose. Aroma is nutty chocolate cream, caffelatte, chocolate cake. Taste is moderately bitter, some metallic bitterness tho. Finish is sticky, creamy texture medium body. A brown ale with chocolate, mmm, good.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2014 355ml bottle served in a Backer tulip glass. A: Pours a dark brown clear color forming a medium tan head with low retention and some lacings formed and left S: Smell is strong on chocolate. A chocolate infused beer, for sure. The remaining smell is composed of roasted malts, mainly. A bit fruity and some flowery hops T: Taste is a bit disappointing. Sweet upfront, burned caramel and roasted malts. But it’s, at the same time, quite light and watery in the mouth M: Very watery and light body. Medium to low carbonation. Slight roasted bitter aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Nice beer [ BA Review @ 8/22/2012 ]

Bonita cor negra opaca. Sem creme. Sem aroma perceptivel. Servida muito gelada. Bom chocolate. Retrogosto bom e pouco persistente.

355ml bottle (exp 30/3/2015). Pours opaque dark brown with an average sized beige head that reduces to a stable collar. Nose is intensely chocolatey (almost like milk chocolate) with a light hop presence. Palate is deliciously smooth and creamy with sweet milk chocolate malts on the tongue and a low bitterness to the finish. Medium bodied and not too rich to fill you up. Probably the pick of Backer’s beers I have tasted in Brazil.
