COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tovarish is a bold Russian imperial stout brewed with a base of British Maris Otter barley and heaping amounts of roasted barley and specialty malts. It’s finished with a touch of blackstrap molasses along with espresso brewed with the finest Arabian Mocha-Java coffee from our friends at Peet’s. Tovarish is remarkably rich and complex. Savor the layers of roast and dark fruits with every sip.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2019 Black hue with a thin foamy khaki head. Nose has some deep roasty Turkish espresso with an underlying hint of cocoa. Smooth roasty deep flavor that’s semisweet and black malty with notes of bitter dark cocoa and espresso nuances. Slightly earthy and slightly, slightly soy saucy but loaded with dark rich espresso roastiness.

ineedbeer (3410) - California, USA - DEC 28, 2018
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2018 Poured from what I believe is a 2014 bottle. Aroma is malt and coffee forward. Lots of chocolate and roast with quite a bit of espresso notes. Some light nuttiness and hints of dark fruit and caramel. Hints of alcohol. Pours jet black with a medium large, thick creamy, dark mocha head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers on the edges. No lacing and moderately long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with moderately strong chocolate notes and lighter caramel and toffee. Moderate roast notes with quite a bit of espresso. Light fruity notes and a bit of alcohol spice. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but present alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice espresso stout. I thought I had already rated this or I wouldn't have sat on it as long as I did, but I am impressed with how the espresso held up.
