COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Forest I.P.A. is as scrumptious as cake in a glass, offering up dominant flavours of sweet cherries and earthy cocoa. This strong Black I.P.A. was brewed with German dark malts and an addition of dried sweet cherries. Black Forest I.P.A. is black, unfiltered, and a perfect bittersweet blend as the cherry fruitiness mingles with the hops and roasted malt flavours. CHERRY BLACK I.P.A. 7.0% • WILD OATS NO. 49 HISTORY & STYLE The Beau’s brew team has created a German-style interpretation Black I.P.A., a relatively new beer style that originated on the West Coast of the US. The name is, of course, a tip of the hat to the well-known chocolate-cherry slice of German deliciousness known as black forest cake. TASTING NOTES A bright cherry aroma is complemented by roasted malt notes, which are followed by spicy, herbal hops. Dry-hopped with some Simcoe for a hint of pine. Flavours of cherries and earthy cocoa dominate. The finish is dry with a pleasant lingering bitterness. FOOD PAIRINGS Country-style ham with a sweet/sour cherry glaze, cherry cheesecake with chocolate shavings. TECHNICAL SPECS ALC/VOL: 7.0% INGREDIENTS: Local spring water, organic barley malts, organic cherries, organic hops, brewer’s yeast. Really a lot going on in this glass - rich and dark, subtle sweetness, but also a lovely earthy and spicy addition of hops on top of everything. I really liked it - and would drink it more often if I lived near somewhere that sold Beau’s!

Bottle. Dark ruby-brown with a tan head. Aroma is as promised - cherry, dark malt, herbal hops - with subtle notes of cocoa, coffee and smoke. Flavour follows the lead of the aroma, with a nice balance of the cherry, roasted malt, mocha and hops - the latter being not quite as bright as in a fresher bottle I had a few months ago, but still bringing a nice dry citrus peel bitterness to the finish. Quite nice.

[8125-20160401] 600mL bottle. Toasted grainy bread aroma. Slightly hazy, dark brown mahogany body has a medium-lasting creamy off-white head and some lacing. Coffee-infused bitter hoppy grains flavour. Medium-full body. Tasty. (8/4/8/4/16) 4.0+

600 ml bottle at Les Marchants de la Bière in Sainte-Thérèse (Quebec) on April 5, 2016. Very dark burgundy, big head. Sweet cherry malt aroma, very juicy. Far more hoppier cherry taste, light dry maltiness, mix bitterness. Good black IPA with a nice cherry kick!

Pours dark red amber with a small quick disappearing white head. Has a dark malts and fruity hops aroma. Rich cherry flavor balanced nicely with hops and chocolate. Very good beer.

Very interesting take, can’t say that it works all that well. Pours black with off white medium head. Aroma is of pine, faint citrus, cocoa, and cherries. Tastes of cocoa, cherry, burnt coffee, and herbal hops. Has a low bitterness with a medium slick body. Props for experimenting with this difficult type of brew.

2016-04-01. Dark brown body with a modest beige head. 3++Aroma is roasty and green hops. Moderate fruit. Flavour is moderately bitter, roasty and musky green hop character. Tangy fruit cherry undertones are pretty subtle but grow a bit as it goes on. Whisper of cocoa. Average bodied palate, soft carbonation. Okay, not really to my own taste. 7/3-4/7/3/14-15 Bottle shared by GregClow.
