COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bush Fire is a flame-coloured ale infused with teas made from two plants native to South Africa, rooibos and honeybush. Spicy, earthy, and with a gentle touch of sweetness, this aromatic creation brings together two of the world’s most popular brews – tea and beer!

ROOIBOS-HONEYBUSH BEER
5.8% • WILD OATS SERIES NO. 54

HISTORY & STYLE
Both rooibos and honeybush are herbal components of traditional teas made in South Africa. The certified organic fairtrade rooibos and honeybush teas used in Bush Fire were harvested in South Africa. These teas were steeped during the brewing process into a base blonde ale style.

TASTING NOTES
Bush Fire has initial aromas of earthy rooibos and sweet honeybush, rounded out with spiciness from Whitbread Golding Variety hops. Similar earthy-sweet flavours are present, with spicy notes and a mild tartness courtesy of rosehips and hops. A bready malt profile helps to balance out the flavours, and a dry finish enhances the spicy and earthy character of the beer.

FOOD PAIRINGS
Grilled ham steaks with grainy mustard, Bobotie (South African meat pie), Boerewors sausage, spiced or aged Gouda, honey spice tea cakes.

[Bottle (600ml)] Pours a hazy golden-orange with an average size long-lasting frothy white head. Minimal lacing. Neat aroma (7+) of honey, roses and floral notes along with bready malt, yeast and herbs and some fruit in the back. Nice flavour, sweet and yeasty along with some honey, fruit and herbs & spices. Medium bodied. Good stuff and better than expected.

(Rating #8008)

August 5, 2015 - at Bar Hop, on draught. Deep orange with a small head. Interesting aroma - lots of honey and rosehips, and something medicinal and floral-bitter; pungent yet sweet; hint of smoke. Taste is quite sweet with a floral bite. Solid body, airy and it has an evolving complex finish - morphing between sweet and floral to bitter and differently floral.

Pours a hazy deep gold colour with half of finger of white head. Lacing clinging to the side of the glass. I get Spicy and flowery notes on the nose. Taste is malty with notes of mandarin, oranges, honey and roses. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Interesting brew.

Got this one from the 2016 Christmas 4-pack. An interesting attempt, will have to try it again sometimes.

EBF Boston 2017. Une bière légère avec des saveurs de thé, qui descend bien et qui tient ses promesse. Touche épicée avec une belle finale sur le thé et une petite chaleur réconfortante. Je ferai un plus long commetaire si je la bois en bouteille.

Bottle from the brewery. Packaged on Oct 24 2016, consumed on March 7 2017 - a touch past the 4 months recommended on the label, but doesn’t seem to have suffered greatly from the aging. Pours a slightly hazy pinkish-orange-gold with a small head. Aroma of fruity herbal tea and rosehips, a bit of honey and mild earthy hops. Flavour follows with really pleasant tea and herbs notes up front, slightly tart rosehips in the middle, and a moderately bitter herbal hops finish. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle into pint glass. Pours a hazy golden colour with white head. Aroma is earthy and herbal with a hint of sweetness. Taste is about the same.

Bought as part of the Beau’s Winter Sampler. Smells like a wheat beer (sweet with a kind of flower aroma). Pours a cloudy (unfiltered) medium gold. Fluffy head that disappears quick, with no lacing. Taste is similar to a wheat beer, but with a slight sourness to go with the sweetness. Its hard to explain. Great carbonation with next to no aftertaste. Overall I was very pleased with this one. I will definitely purchase again. MB. The Beer "Bear"on
