KansaiBeerLvrs (7658) - Kyoto, JAPAN - OCT 18, 2020UPDATED: OCT 18, 2020 Belching Beaver Viva La Beaver
BA Mexican Chocolate Peanut Butter
Imperial Milk Stout 12.5%
Nice ruby black color flash in the pan purplish tan foam that vanished fast. First whiff gave BA bourbon then nutty sweet peanut with milk Chocolate. Medium to full bodied with lots of balanced sweet peanut butter chocolate. At first colder there was no hint of the high ABV but on warming the boozy bite reared it’s head.
All in all by far the best I’ve had from Belching Beaver. I didn’t get rye or anything Mexican from it though.
Maris (2828) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - AUG 15, 2020UPDATED: AUG 15, 2020 From a 650ml(?) bottle on 15/8/2020 (shared with Butz). Pours a deep brown with a medium head. Having soon after a standard Viva La Beaver so the comparison is fresh. The nose is powerful - heaps of chocolate, peanut butter and cinnamon, with a fair bit of whisky and oak in the background. The flavour is a rinse and repeat of the nose. Intense sweet milk chocolate and peanut butter, lots of cinnamon and dash of whisky. The mouthfeel is slick and a touch syrupy and the carbonation moderate. Very easy drinking for 12.5%, and has a lot of the standard Viva, just a bit less peanuts and a bit more cinnamon, with the addition of the barrel aged character. A truly excellent dessert beer but I'd take the standard version over it.
