UPDATED: SEP 12, 2021 Strong fruity flavors that are soaked in heavy alcohol juice. A little bit too strong for my taste. There is some honey in the background.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2021 12 oz bottle. Pours an orange gold with a nice dense white head. Fruity hops smell balanced by malt. Hop forward taste with some hint of honey but a solid sharp lingering hops finish that hides the alcohol until you feel the warmth. Classic not contemporary style hoppy India Pale Ale. Good.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2021 Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Bottles on 1/7/21. Pours clear amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is caramel, honey, floral, mild dabj. Initial taste is sweet malt and honey but quickly overtaken by floral, earthy, and light citrus notes. Fades to an earthy pine. Palate is full and carbonation is vibrant. Incredibly well balanced for a DIPA.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2021 Copper pour with a couple inches of white fluffy head. Aroma of sweet honey, cane sugar, pungent grapefruit and melon. Citrus notes of lime, lemon and orange blend into the mix. First sip introduces you to a full bodied, immaculately balanced treat to the palate. When I say this beer is perfectly sweetened, I give due respect to the beautiful hop profile that amps it up to a full 70 IBUs. At 10% it's got just the right amount of power to balance all of its aspects in harmony. This beer expertly masks the alcohol content. Flavor and malt/hop balance drown out any alcohol burn. For all of its complexity, this beer retains an immensely drinkable quality to it. As I continued to sip the aroma never lost its punch. Beautifully sweet pine and tropical fruit. There are so many well-marketed IPAs and imperial IPAs that fall extremely short of tasting original or fresh or interesting. This beer tastes fundamentally fresh. It deeply satisfies and satiates the palate in a way I believe is superior to Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. Even during winter when you may prefer to reach for a stout, as I typically do, this beer completely transcends those boundaries. It's a warmer, great for any season. I've not often thought of an extreme beer such as this to be sessionable, but if 'Drinkability' were its own rating category on RateBeer I would give it a perfect score in that column. My apologies for the ranting and raving, for me it is a phenomenal beer from start to finish. It sets a new standard, a new benchmark for what a great extreme IPA should be. The last thing I tasted that compared favorably to this might be Founder's Harvest Ale which still falls short of Bell's Hopslam Ale in strength and flavor. It carried a $20 price tag for a 6-pack but I believe that was justified. One more tasting note: the honey is a welcome addition which only assists its balance and does not overly complicate the brew or change the direction it aims for. Overall it may be more akin to a triple IPA in the realm of Dogfish Head 120, which is much more extreme a beer. While I can't compare it to that, it does put the majority of DIPAs on the market to shame. If you've drank and enjoyed Two Hearted Ale and yearned for something even stronger, you need to add Hopslam into your extreme IPA rotation.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2021 Dank, pine, hoppy aroma. Very clear and golden in color. Taste is pine, dank, malty, sweet honey, dry, very hoppy, can tell this has a lot of different hops, pretty complex. Medium thick palate.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2021 Perfectly well balanced. Honey notes, not viscous and not cloying or syrupy. Nose is just slightly musty, not at all strong.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2020 Can. Pours orange brown. Grapefruit, caramel, pine, sweet tangerine., floral. Medium body. Pretty good.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2020 Earlier Rating: 1/14/2007 Total Score: 3.9 batch 7690, 12 oz bottle from my SS. Pours with a huge, creamy off-white head that rides over a hazy, medium orange body. Moderate bready malt aroma punctuated by a juicy, pineapple-mango hop aroma. The flavor balance goes heavily to the bitter side with this IIPA. Pineapple mango hop flavor that finishes and bitter. I’d like a bit more dryness with a IIPA that has this amount of bitterness.

UPDATED: FEB 29, 2020 Draft into a snifter. Aroma is heavy pine, honey, and plum. Strong but not sharp bitterness. Sugary and fruity malt. Some dish soap. Very enjoyable sipper.
