COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our take on the classic German hefeweizen style. Bright yellow with lots of haze, this refreshing wheat beer was dry-hopped with Amarillo and Simcoe to create citrusy aromatics alongside classic banana notes. Effervescent with a pleasing dry finish. Pilot versions were called "Hoppy Hefeweizen".

500ml bottle. Hazy golden-yellow in colour with a long lasting large white head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of wheat, pale malts, yeast, some fruit, bananas and spice. The flavour is of bananas, spice, some floral hops, wheat and cereal. Lightly bitter mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long and creamy, some hops. A nice hoppy hefeweizen.

In short: A hefeweizen for the lovers of aromatic fruity new-breed of blonde IPAs.
How: Bottle, consumed moderately fresh, bottle sent to me by
The look: Cloudy yellow body topped by a medium white head.
In long: The powerful hoppy nose is bursting with aromatic fresh tropical fruits, grapefruits and some flowery notes. I didn’t get the hefe part from the nose, smelled to me like a highly aromatic new-breed blonde IPA. In mouth the beer has a nice mouthfeel with a good corpulence, a chewy texture and plenty of soft bubbles. Taste has nice banana cake, wheat, a whole lot of hops blending musky character with fresh tropical fruits. All that ends with an assertive bitterness with mild resinous notes. The flavor profile is a lot more aligned with the unofficial White IPA style rather than the current ratebeer style of German Hefeweizen, and I happen to love White IPAs. Another winner from Bellwoods. Sometimes I drink a good 5% session ale like this one knowing fully well that it is 95% water and I start thinking about how good it would be if it was 100% beer.

500mL bottle, courtesy of beerhugger (thanks Steve), pours a cloudy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is oxidized, with feint notes of wheat and citrus. Flavour brings out cardboard, wheat and faded banana. This is way past its prime. Would’ve been good, but this is too old.

On tap at Wvrst. Pours opaque yellow with a creamy, white head. Aroma of pine, yeast, black pepper. Taste is quite dry up front, with a medium body carrying a surprising amount of hop bitterness. The finish is pretty clean. I dislike the inverted character of these hoppy hefeweizens, but this one is probably the best.

It pours murky (translucent) straw yellow with a touch of ochre; the head is off-white and mousse-like. The aroma has notes of: pineapple, grapefruit-zest, and slight mango. The taste is light sweet that finishes medium bitter; there are notes of: grapefruit, pineapple, biscuit, and fresh wheat (on the finish). The palate is medium-light bodied, has medium carbonation, and a long bitter wheat finish. Overall, it’s alright.

on tap at the brewery. Cloudy yellow colour. i’m floored by how muted the aroma is considering the style and how it was made, but, shows notes honey and melon and some citrus hoppy note. Bitter on the uptake with banana, yeast and a somewhat metallic note. shows some leafy barky bitterness. Considering the style i’ve had better.

Bottle from brewery. Hazy yellow pour. High delicate carbonation, marshmallow white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, orange, grapefruit, yeast, banana, a little pepper and floral notes. Delightful. A little chalky, medium sweetness on the body. Refreshing citrus bitterness on the finish. It’s generally light an refreshing with a lovely balanced complexity. Very nice variation on a classic style.

On tap at Bellwoods. Super-cloudy bright yellow. Banana, spice, and a grassiness dominate the aroma. Taste has spice, banana, some pine, alcohol, and lots of lemon in the finish, making it slightly bitter and sour. Light body. A hoppy twist on a hefe that’s not bad!
