From 2010 file notes. Pours amber gold. Aroma is citrus or pine. Tastes very hoppy. Finished bitter. Liked it.

"a big, chewy, highly aromatic, resiny ipa...very good. not one you’ll want every day, but a nice treat. there’s a big malt backbone, that although it’s flavor is overpowered by the hops, it lends a nice body to the beer."

Old rate. Pours a lite gold with a decent white head. Aroma is pine and citrus, malt lacking. Flavour is very hoppy but ultimately lacking in balance. Tastes rather thin. Too one dimensional.

22oz bottle from bevmo back in the day, and just found one in the back of my fridge! Pours a medium burnt orange color with a small off white head that left some spotty lacing. Nose was very sweet with some citrus hops in there as well. Flavor was also quite sweet and malty, brew is deinitly past its peak, but still a quality drink.

Angeloregon (2055) - Portland, Oregon, USA - AUG 18, 2008
Bottle from Wild Oats (also RIP) in Portland, OR--Poured a mild amber-copper hue with a thick white head. Steaming with hop character. Grapefruit and pine nose. Lots of malt in the body. Well balanced. With a name like Hopzilla, I would have expected a bigger beer, but the hops are huge. Finished bitter sticky and piny.

RSRIZZO (2264) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - DEC 2, 2007
Had this beer on 2/13/2005. Aroma is light with a fresh hop scent. Color is a pale hazy gold with very light carbonation and almost no head. I am a bit worried about this low carbonation, I have had a few beer that would have been much better if the carbonation would have been right. Taste is very hoppy and nicely crisp. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a mildly sweet malt flavor and a crisp feel. Finish comes on strong with a full round of hop flavors, this starts with a bright bitterness and a nice citrusy flavor, then ends with a fresh yet mild hop flavor. This all is blended evenly making it one of the best IPA’s I have had in a while. Overall its excellent, this is what a Pale Ale is all about. I had this beer a few years back at GABF, but I think it may have been a bit hoppier and not as balanced as this one.

frankenkitty (2013) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - OCT 3, 2007
Pours with a frost-hazed amber body, well-carbonated, under an off-white head of wet cream which holds on as a thick film. Any robust, aromatic hopping which was present in the past has dissipated, allowing a strong, fruity/candied malt presence to come forward. Mouthwatering with mild florals amidst caramel, cherry and peaches although a whiff of pine breaks through if I inhale deeply enough. Actually quite delicious as these same aromas translate sweetly into its flavor. Pine makes a better showing here than earlier and balances the palate before things become too sweet. One of those strange beers that does little to quench my thirst as I salivate after taking each sip.

GG (2332) - NorCal, California, USA - JUL 17, 2007
NorCal tasting July 07 - Thanks to beerguy101 for bringing this to the tasting. The beer was clearly losing its IPA characteristics and morphing into a barleywine very quickly. It was STILL a very tasty beer even if it had a few years on it. Aroma caramel and sweet with a big shot of oxidation showing up, which kept the citrusy and floral hops in check. Appearance was copper-like in color with a head on the smaller side. Flavor was sweet, oxidized, with a hearty pine character. The beer really reminded me of a SN Bigfoot these days. Overall, an enjoyable beer and if you are lucky enough to actually have some then realize this is getting harder and harder to find.
