From the cellar. Phenolic, wheaty, lemon pith, a little funky, ground black peppercorn, touch of green bell pepper. Nice soft but prickly carbonation. Very drying mouthfeel and finish.

Had this a few summers back - handwritten notes from 2015. Pours a bright and cloudy golden blonde. Thin white head, effervescent, nice yeasty aroma. Quite a bit of floral and grassy notes with a nice mild hop bouquet. Pale malts, thin toasted notes, herbacious and grassy hops. A bit of citrus peel but no pepper notes. Overall a good beer but it seems unfocused and doesn't end up working that well.

Pretty good saison. Strong lemon citrusy notes dominate, mild banana a mild peppery aromas too. Cloudy yellow and very highly carbonated, as par for the style. Blind tasting I would have guessed this was a wheat beer. 750ml bottle from Lb.

Mooch tasting at Matt’s
Cloudy blond color, large head. The aroma is a bit spicy, coriander, but also cabbage. The mouthfeel is too dry and too much carbonated, alcohol is too evident, malt has no depth, and leaves too much space for off flavors such as vegetables, cabbage, onions.
Not my kind of beer.

750ml bottle @ Matt’s. Pours a hazy straw colour. Nose is yeasty and somewhat funky. Flavour is dry, yet fruity with a hint of sweetness in the finish.

Blonde and cloudy. Thin head. The aroma is quite yeasty, and with a dry hop character, and has a peppery top note. On the palate, the pale malts carry a nice character, again with dry herbal hops, and a fair bit of yeastiness.

UXO (1896) - CANADA - OCT 10, 2016
Appearance: slightly hazy pale gold with a massive and growing three finger rocky off-white head, excellent retention and chunky lacing. (4/5) Aroma: citrus pith and zest, apples and pears, yeast, cloves, dry hay, alcohol, white pepper. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter, mild funky tart. (7/10) Medium-light body, lively carbonation, off-dry lightly funky and lingering mild bitter finish. (4/5) The way the cap let go, I was expecting a gusher, and scrabbled madly for a glass. It didn’t actually foam out of the bottle, but in the glass it continued to develop its massive fluffy head for quite some time, actually overflowing the lip. And again, I find myself on the horns of a dilemma: rate this as the style it purports to be, or on its own merits? Because, frankly, as a BSPA, this is great - but as a Saison, not quite so much. There’s the familiar argument about ABV, of course, but they to some extent deal with that by making it clear it’s actually a double (“Deux Fois la Taille” = “twice the size”) - though I’m still not convinced “Imperial Saison” is a legitimate style that ought to see the light of day, despite this not being my first example of that style. No, the flavours are more what I’m thinking about here: I expect Saisons to be light, fruity, and dry, but this has sweeter and more robust flavours. I expect much of that is attributable to its “double” character, but still it makes for a slightly oddball beer. Ultimately pretty heavy for the style, but still a bit of fun. (15/20)

Rating #1898 - 2015.09.20 - Bottle from Matt at Beer Bros! Thanks :)- Golden pour with white head and lots of lace. Aroma is funky farmhouse yeast. Clean mouthfeel, medium carbonation, mild alcohol warmth. Taste is a crisp sweetness, tempered with herbal notes, mild pepperiness, pronounced sourness from the yeast. Great saison.
