Cask @ The Brewery Opening: Pours a deep red brown, no head this time. Aroma is heavy on the whisky, oak, and orange. Lots of roasted, nutty malts in the flavour, surrounded by lots of whisky and a slight fruity sweet note. An experience, but probably needed a bit more rest time?

On Cask. Nice beer, but I prefer the regular nut brown. Pours red brown with zero head. Nose of big whisky. Body is roasty malts, nuts, chocolate, caramel with lots more whisky notes. Finish a bit burning.

[2096-20090418] Cask. Woody roast malt and mild fruit aroma. Clear, black brown body with a quick bubbly head. Chocolate roast flavour is smooth with a sweet fruity malt. Medium body. Nice, drinkable.

Hmm, I had this at the Black Oak opening party. Appearance: Ruby red, no head. Aroma: Jameson whiskey, wood, marmalade, candied orange, like a nice ale added to the end of a glass of Jameson. Flavour: Whiskey, wood, malt, orange and a slight hop finish.

Volo Cask Days. Nose is just wow. Giant vanilla and chocolate. Harry nailed it when he said cookie dough. Not overly complexy but freakin amazing. Flavor is chocolate, tofee, some vanilla. Nice toffee & slightly smoky finish. Some dry chocolate in the finish as well.

Draught @ C’est What. Huge smell of coconut and boubon. Overall, tasty but far too thin. Reminds one of watered-down hooch. Peat, caramel in the long finish.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2006 Cask at Volo’s Cask Situation. I liked this version so much better then the last that a rerate is in order. Pours a hazy ruby-brown with a spare white head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, dark fruit, bourbon and cookie dough. Flavour’s the same along with some caramel -- it’s sweet and boozy but in a good way. Good body for the style. Way better the earlier version.

Cask at Bar Volo’s Cask Days 2005. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a spare fizzy off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and whiskey. The first thing I thought upon my first taste was "Holy F#@K! - -it tastes like liquor!". Flavour of whisky foremost followed by roasted malt. This is definitely original and an acquired taste but I didn’t care much for it.

Cask @ Volo -- oh yeah, this one is all whiskey. Unlike the subtle creaminess of the granite whiskey barrel, this one is a full on assault. Smooth as all hell as well, with a nice dark brown hue. A hint of bitter chocolates as well. Definitely well worth the sampling.

Pure brown appearance, licorice aroma. Roast, medium mouthfeel. Easy drink. Completely different on cask. Nut, malt and caramel, chocolate malt.. Bit of grain. Natural carbonation. Whisky barrel adds immense dimension of burbon and vanilla flavour notes.

Oakiness in the aroma, booze and coffee. Cloudy copper/brown tiny tan head. Flavour of the malt is strong, some woody notes, whiskey is apparent, toffe as well. Full bodied feel. creamy, bitter and complex. Terrific!
