twist (22) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 4, 2019UPDATED: AUG 4, 2019 The sniff brings me back to my childhood when cough medicine used to give you that warm smothering feeling. Texture is like a well made espresso shot, oily, syrupy, comforting. Taste has so much going on I would rather sit by the fire and enjoy than try define it. Amazing beer, not sure it even fits in my definition of a beer.
dangerdonut (102) - - MAY 9, 2019UPDATED: MAY 9, 2019 Taking Ramjet up another notch, it belies its liqueur level alcohol content. A big black beer devoid of light, but containing notes of toasty oak, browned bread, and aged fruit. This beer demands focus. It also makes me question my life choices, in a good way.
Samma (1000) - Fitzroy, AUSTRALIA - MAR 17, 2019UPDATED: MAR 17, 2019 From bottle at Good Beer Week 2019 Launch Gala. Black as night. Huge wafts of coffee, whiskey, vanilla, raisins. Oily with hint of fizz. Bloody amazing tastes. Miraculously hides the booze in amongst all the sweet bready, caramel, raisiny coffee tininess. So good I went back for a second.
andydarkbeer (7) - - JAN 4, 2019 does not count UPDATED: JAN 4, 2019 Crazy!! Just crazy.
When I had this, I was sitting down, just sipping away as you do.
I felt warm and fuzzy and happy. As to be expected with most big RIS beers.
Finished it off all good.
Went to get up and the whisky and high alcohol of the beer hit me like a Mack truck!!
I’ve never had this sensation with any other beer. Had it with wine and spirits.
Am really impressed with this beer and it’s not just because of the high alcohol content.

I go into this with an open mind, but slight reservations as I have tried the "standard" Dramjet in all its "fortified beer" glory - and it was boozy AF. Now, if you add carbonation to this mix; not sure, seems like it might intensify this? Only one way to find out I guess...
Thick pour, pretty much opaque pitch black, slowly forms a small dense tan rim/head.
Big ole nose to it - classic Ramjet feel with the big espresso & dark chocolate with bags of whisky laden vanilla & toast, and raisins, plums, figs & booze.
Interesting - might be because I have chilled it (unlike the standard Dramjet), or perhaps it's the rather low creamy carbonation, but it's very rounded. There's booze here, but it's that slow release lingering, brooding type that haunts you in your dreams & hangovers after mistaking such a beast as this as "easy drinking". Very good weight, thick, creamy, pretty similar to the normal Ramjet really yet a touch more whisky & oaken tannin.
Oooo this is rather tasty - if you're familiar with Starward (their normal whisky), this screams it loud & clear - lots of vanilla, toasted brioche, lightly charred oak, sultana & fig - then the Ramjet component rocks up with its big dark chocolate & espresso & dark brown sugary notes; and the interplay begins - though there is this gap in the mid-palate; like whisky on one side, beer on the other - sort of like a boiler maker in a glass. Fair boozy finish, sort of porty dried fruits linger.
Very bloody nice, think I prefer this over the standard Dramjet - not sure how it'll keep after opening (they recommend putting a stopper in it!?) - might just re-cap it!
