COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This abbey-style quadrupel is a dark, storng ale separated into oak bourbon barrels to age for various lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the "angel's share" of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are blended for optimum flavor. Warm and toasty with aromas of bourbon, oak and vanilla, Bourbon Barrel Quad also retains a hint of tart cherry with caramel notes.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2021 Beer #9 (of 19) of my 9000th Beer Celebration [9 beers on both sides of #9000th itself] Slightly cloudy and ever hazy copper coloured body with a bronze glow and a thinnish, relatively fast-dying tan head that starts at a single centimetre tall and fades quickly. Aroma of oak, vanilla, molasses, pitted fruits, caramelised sugars, apples, pears and apricots with some pungent alcohol and especially deep malt notes with a mild bourbon and pure whiskey note in the nose - very nice and especially soft given the time aged. Medium to Full-bodied; Super rich oaky, cedar, bourbon and pitted fruit notes dominate, but again, with a ton of restraint only showing a tiny bit of alcohol and woodsy notes with a mild dose of malts, nuts, earth and way more of the vanilla, oak and cedar elements that define this one. Aftertaste shows the dry, malty, earthy, nutty and robust oak flavours with the boubon and whiskey flavours that bring out some more of the caramelised sugars and vanilla elements, that round this out nicely. Overall, a very nice, incredibly complex and somehow even better mellowed out rich flavour throughout that makes this a joy to drink, especially as part of my 9000th beer celebration! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York (the amazing store that sadly went away) on 03-December-2016 for US$4,25, with a 'best by date' of 04-August-2019, sampled more than two years AFTER that, sampled at my house here in Washington for Beer #9 (of 19) of my 9000th beer celebration [9 beers on both sides of #9000th itself] on 16-September-2021.

Fin (15185) - Attenkirchen, Bavaria, GERMANY - SEP 4, 2021
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2021 Bottle from Beer Republic webshop, Breda, Netherlands and consumed at Camping Gythion, Mavrovouni, Mani Peninsula, Greece Friday 3rd September 2021 after a 15km walk to/from Gytheio. Quite a boozy bourbon laden nose, taste is heavy on the bourbon too, however it's also malty and a big sugar hit with heaps of dark molasses. There's an oaky woodiness, nice body, despite big sweetness and abv it's a little dry at the back end.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2020 Boulevard BBA Quad 11.2% Matte amber with a dense light beige foam that lingers for ages. On cracking open the bottle you get lots of rich plums and raisins, tannic oak, bourbon and even hints of peat. Full body with a lovely soft mouthfeel. The taste is richly sweet stick fruits but balanced by oak and bourbon. Great stuff, super smooth.

solar (128) - - SEP 21, 2020
UPDATED: SEP 21, 2020 Pours a murky orange/brown with good size head that gets fluffy on the second pour. Dissipates slowly with fine retention. The head can be energized with a little swirling of the glass. Detracting from the appearance is quite a bit of flotsam and jetsam floating around, but these are only visible when you hold it up to the light. They do not float on the surface, which is good. Aroma is delicious candy, malts and a light whiff of banana. Taste is the same and opens up as it warms. Additional notes of barrel, vanilla, malty richness and it has a good abbey Belgian Quad vibe though it is not in the same league as St. Bernardus, for example. I do not detect the cherry component the product description describes. However, the ale has a magnificent mouthfeel, velvety texture, chewy, full with just the right amount of carbonation to tickle the taste buds. Detracting from the taste is a slight hollow astringency after bite that lingers. Not sure why this is 100/100 on beeradvocate.com and 99/95 here on RateBeer.com... IMHO it is not 'world class'. But it is still very good! Worth having! Boulevard does a great job here.
