Interesting, very light hued green bottle. Light golden color with a tallish white head. Decent lace. Malthouse aromas with just a hint of floral hops. Perhaps a touch worty in scent, but I don’t find much offensive. Quite sweet, with light malt, hints of circus peanuts and floral hops. Quite light in feel, nearly to the point of being fizzy water. Finishes a bit woody and with some old caramel.

UPDATED: APR 23, 2014 Bottle: Clear, dark yellow that leans more towards gold, topped with a bright white, fizzling head that is gone in just a few moments. Aroma is extremely mild. Light pilsner malt, a faint bit of sweetness, grains, & some musky hops. Faint DMS. Apparent skunky aroma running through it all, too, which is not a good sign. Taste is awfully bland, but not terribly offensive. Very timid pilsner malts, not exhibiting much flavor or sweetness. Light metallic notes, graininess, musty & dirty hops, and unfortunately a strong skunky aftertaste. A pretty bad & skunky example of the style.

Black Art Gold has a thin, off-white head and a clear, golden-amber appearance with lots of streaming bubbles and no lacing left behind. So, it doesn’t look too terrific. The aroma is of sweet, syrupy barley malt and bread. Taste is of sweet bread, syrup, hop oil, and bread dough. Bitterness is quite low. The hop flavor shows up more in the hop oil with this beer. Mouthfeel is medium, prickly, and somewhat slick, and Black Art Gold finishes wet and sweet. Drinkability is very high, here. Overall, this is good and worth checking out. RJT

Clear, brassy gold with a tall white head. Scent is slightly skunky grain. Taste is sweet malt, grass, corn malt... Wierd clear bottle with a greenish cast... Not a good idea.

Bottle- Pours a clear golden color with a small head that fades quickly to bits of lacing. Aroma of malt sweetness, fruit and grain. Aroma seems to be a bit musty. Not a good thing. Taste follows the aroma with malt sweetness and fruit with some grain. The bitterness lingers in the background with a slightly sweet sticky finish. Fairly light body, with a bit of a coarse texture and way too sweet. Not what I would consider a German Pilsener, but a below average Euro Lager.

Bottle. Clear yellow pour with a minimal white head. Nasty nose of stale grass and malt - pretty sweet as well. Thin palate. Taste is a bland grain. Not good at all.

Bottle. Stale barley malt aroma. Golden yellow color with moderate head. Very sweet corn/barley malt with hint of hops. Came in a clear bottle - still more like a cheap pale lager.

Clear gold with a white head. Aroma is caramel and apple. Taste is caramel malt with light hops. Watery.

11.2 ounce clear (WHY!?) bottle. Pours into my glass a nice gold color, exactly like it did in the bottle... go figure... The head is bright white, large and tight-foamed. Skunk on the nose, unavoidable skunk due to the bottle color. Once it dies down it is a very malty smell, I would have like more hops. Th hops are more prevalent in the flavor, though there is a large dose of pils malt too. It is a bit different than most I have had. Perhaps some of the skunkiness leeched into the flavor. 33 cl CLEAR bottle, 89¢ @ Binny’s. Oh, sweet Jesus save me! I now truly know what a SKUNKED beer is! I mean, this is what you hope to achieve by using clear bottles? Glad I left a bottle of Yeti that I also got with this beer as a reminder that Heaven still exists. Now I’m pouring into a .2L pils glass. Skunk is finally driving away, and I can find a bit of nice grainy smell beneath. Certainly an okay golden pils color under a stiff white head. Finally a chance to taste. Meh. Grainy, but at least recognizably pilsener grains. Excess sweetness, and a little volatile alcohol on the tongue. It does make up a bit for that powerful skunk hiding the bottle neck, but not much of a much. Someone can tell me this is better on draft and in its homeland, and I may believe them.
