COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Watt Dickie is a spirit born out of our stone-faced misadventures in high ABV brewing. The bastard lovechild of the technique we developed to produce idiosyncratic masterpieces such as Tactical Nuclear Penguin, Sink the Bismarck and the infamous End of History – a beer which reached 55% ABV.

This is an insanely amplified IPA masquerading as a spirit. A faux spirit, a dead spirit, a new spirit. Born as an India Pale Ale, Watt Dickie then undergoes patent pending (and consequentely for now secret) freezing alchemy which transforms the beer into a high octane roller coaster of flavour, craftsmanship, originality and audacity.

The process condenses & amplifies the flavour, body and mouth-feel resulting in full bodied malty, hoppy rock ‘n roll opulence which is unlike anything you (or anyone else) has ever tasted before. Watt Dickie is uncarbonated and designed to be drunk and enjoyed as a spirit: have it neat, have it on the rocks or even make a cocktail with it.

60mL bottle from Carwyn Cellars 35%!!!!abv no date stamp? I'll admit it - after a good 15 years of sampling different beers, I'm yet to try one of these super "eisbier" things (mainly due to financial limitations...) - this is a good 10%abv above anything I've ever come across, and has me somewhat scared... It does pour thick, like a liqueur, no head, no indication of carbonation, may as well be a liqueur or fortified wine. Very concentrated aroma (no surprisingly) - big whiff of soy sauce upfront takes a bit to get past, get burnt/cooked marmalade & aged/oxidised hop character, heaps of raisin & porty dried fruit, almost treacle-like (presumably) malt character, lots of booze almost sharp on the nostrils. Really only need the slightest sip - it's thick like an aged soy sauce, hop oils sit on the tongue almost cloyingly so delivering a tannic bitterness I'd liken to taking a bite out of a hop pellet, booze is hot solventy very raw. Once again...soy sauce, aged, chuck in some aged balsamic too, hops are so bitter & concentrated there's acidity from the (alpha/beta) acids, quite vegetal, bitter leafy resin like chewing on a leaf of plant you really shouldn't be. There's dried fruits & burnt glace citrus & heavy treacle, but it's a mess, can hardly hold enough liquid on the palate to tolerate the bitterness & booze on this...and it lingers with a sort of cooked licorice/charred fennel character. There's no finesse here - it's concentrated beer that has become oxidised in the eising process and you're left with hot heavy mess. Will have to try others at some point....but this is $40 much better spent on a very good single malt!

Tiny bottle, Ann Arbor MI via Sheffield. Alcohol raisin aroma. Sweet. Sharp. Long alcohol finish. Sour sharp end. Interesting but nothing I'd have again.

6cl bottle from Brewdog.com back in 2013 (£4.50 approx.):
Very strong stuff & nothing like a beer in the traditional sense of the word, this one was a boozy spirit with tonnes of alcohol showing throughout & a warming kick to it was well. There was a little variety to the nose, something that I wasn't expecting but the taste was pretty much what I thought it would be like going in with plenty of alcohol & a burning feel to it that dominated throughout. It's one that I'm glad I've managed to try but I can't see me ever giving it a second go, even if I manage to see it again somewhere in the future; dangerous stuff indeed.

Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Fatalne. Śliwki i spirytus. Jedno z najgorszych piwnych doświadczeń ever.

An ale you got to try at least once, in my case strictly once! totally mental strength with powerful alcohol taste but found it undrinkable really. As scary as the cool little bottle.
