Alengrin (9649) - Gent, BELGIUM - OCT 30, 2019
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2019 Fruit IPA – or, more precisely, a New England IPA with mango – by this familiar Swedish brewer, thanks to Christophe and Marie for sharing. Mousy, eggshell-white, irregular, opening head, hazy yellow blonde robe with slight greenish tinge, but shifting to a more warm and deep ochre-orange-tinged blonde with sediment. Aroma of indeed ‘real’ mango, maracuja, pomelo, pineapple, ripe pear, dough, lemon flesh, sweaty hint. Sour and sweet onset, indeed a lot of actual fruitiness, as in true mango juice including a thin but edgy fruit acidic aspect; soft carb, creamy body, doughy maltiness turned a bit ‘sourdoughy’ by the fruit, with the mango eventually accentuated and amplified by New World aromatic hoppiness, providing mild bitterness as well; fruity sour-and-sweetness however remains dominant, with softly bready yeasty elements in the background. Fruit IPA is never really cup of tea, but this is a decent one for sure, with the added mango ‘de facto’ creating something close to sour IPA. Refreshing.
