Har en god fyldig smag, har noget der minder om lakrids i eftersmagen. Lidt mere sødlig end en belgisk klosterale.

Dark amber/brown color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, caramel/toffee, fruit, & spice; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel/toffee, dark fruit, cola, and spice; Finish is fairly dry; On the sweet side - but decent.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2017 From WLVL, Interesting stuff, not sure if aged or just naturally not very carbonated, a little wine like. Herbally spiced. Serving: Bottle

Bottle from whole foods so could be quite old or not retired. Pours chestnut. Nose is caramel and plenty of malt. Tastes of toffee, nutty, malty sweetness, earth, and some grape. Interesting odd brew whose bottle caught my eye for whatever reason.

Bottle at the Gingerman in NYC. Pours redbrown with a tan head. Some caramel, dark fruits and roasted malts detected with a long finish.

Japalo (1887) - DENMARK - JUN 17, 2012
Bottle. Exp. Date in 2005. Oldies but goodies. Small head. Brandy clear colour. Spices like pepper and oak blended with caramalts. Rather short sour but not unpleasant finish. Still a great brew from one of the fathers too Danish microbrewery.

POLK (2214) - Hørning, DENMARK - DEC 29, 2011
Brown color with an fine off-white head. Aroma is spicy with licorice. Taste is again very licorice-like.

Bottle (rated sometime in 2008). Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is light brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, caramel), with notes of plum and juniper. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.

rondphoto (5071) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - SEP 10, 2011
Opaque, dark cola color with 1" head, medium lacing. Aroma and taste is of caramel malt with an overtone of spearmint. Full taste and mouthfeel through a mildly bitter finish. Good although a "one-note" quaff.

In appearance it almost looks like a doppelbock while the aroma is heavy on the mint. The taste is mint up front while there’s a maltiness similar to a barley-wine as well. Not bad really but considering I’m not a barley-wine fan, this doesn’t get as high of rating as someone who is a fan of barley-wines would rate it as.
