dorain (1930) - Berlin, GERMANY - SEP 6, 2021
Prost!

snowcrash000 (1790) - Cologne, GERMANY - DEC 27, 2020
UPDATED: DEC 27, 2020 Pours a clear, deep rose coloration with a small, fizzy head that rapidly fades away and slightly visible carbonation. Smells of light doughy malt and a distinct rhubarb aroma, as well es some estery fruit notes of apple and apricot, with just a hint of funk and oak. Taste is a great balance of light doughy malt, a distinct tart rhubarb presence, some estery fruit, with notes of green apple, apricot and gooseberry, as well as just the merest hint of earthy funk and oak, with a good underlying acidity. Finishes with a medium acidity and some rhubarb and light funk lingering in the aftertaste. Effervescent mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation. This is a Lambic that is very much in the same vein as Fou Foune, meaning that the focus is very much on its vibrant fruitiness rather than a deep complexity or rich funk. Which is fine, of course, although it's not quite as expressive as Fou Foune, being only 3 months older. Then again, I really think that Fruit Lambic like this should ideally be enjoyed as fresh as possible to really enjoy the fruitiness to its full extent. There still is a very nice, tart rhubarb presence to this, which is complemented by some fruity esters and a good, medium lactic/citric acidity that borders on being just a touch too intense though, while the funk and oak really are minimal, really more of some fleeting accents that fight a losing battle against the acidity. Overall, a quite enjoyable Fruit Lambic with distinct fruity, tart and acidic notes, but little funk or complexity, while its aroma and mouthfeel are both sublime. Really something that's more suited to the summertime than winter, much like Fou' Foune. (Vintage 2020, 6 months old)
