COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zwanze 2015, or Wild Brussels Stout, was brewed in March of 2013 and was originally a candidate to be served for the Zwanze Day celebration in 2014.

Zwanze 2015 is Cantillon’s interpretation of a spontaneously fermented stout. Aged for 28 months, Wild Brussels Stout is a blend of Cognac, red wine, and Lambic barrels. The beer coming from Cognac barrels brings a warming alcohol character, while the beer coming from the red wine barrels has a vinous, fruity presence. The fruitiness and roast give this "wild" stout a nutty character reminiscent of wine from Madeira or Banyuls.

Pour at Quintessence 2018. Came as near black, a few brown bubbles on top, but no actual head. Aromas of funky roast...interesting....leather, dark fruits, oak, cobweb, a bit of wine note, and bread. Taste follows with a dark roast carrying the tartness quite nicely, actually. Much to my surprise, this wasn't too heavy on the mouthfeel, nor was it too sharp. Vinous notes, couple with dark fruits, and funky cobweb. Earth, leather, caramel, and wet oak round out a semi-dry finish. Enjoyed this more than I thought I would!

Some Alcoholic warmth. Moderate Sweet and sour with lingering roasted notes. A bit off balanced - but nice overall.

September 19, 2015 - at The Kernel with a whole bunch of RateBeer lunatics for Zwanze Day. Draught. Deep ruby, clear, with a smallish tan head. Smells like a slightly higher ABV, slightly funkier flemish sour - vinous, malt vinegar - underlying sweetness - tart fruit too. Taste follows, but actually hoppy ... my rating sort of fades into a discussion about football with ChrisO at this point ... oh well - I remember enjoying the damned beer.
