COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chimay Tripel, with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer’s flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised. Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz (beer-pages.com/protz/features/chimay.htm) and John White (www.whitebeertravels.co.uk/chimay.html)

snowcrash000 (1790) - Cologne, GERMANY - DEC 31, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 31, 2021 Pours a cloudy, deep amber coloration with a large, creamy head. Smells of caramel malt, toffee, estery/hoppy fruit with notes of apricot, apple and citrus, as well as hints of estery spice. Taste is a perfect balance of caramel malt, toffee, estery fruit and spice, with notes of red apple, apricot, clove and cardamon, as well as some bitter, citrus hops, with notes of orange rind. Finishes bittersweet, with a light/medium bitterness and some toffee, citrus and estery fruit and spice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation. While I love Tripel Karmeliet, this has got to be my new favorite Tripel. The balance of malt, hops and yeast is just absolutely superb here, with some sweet caramel and toffee, bitter and citrussy, as well as fruity and spicy notes that complement each other incredibly well. I really like how prominent the hops are here, with some citrus notes and a good bitterness that prevents this from becoming too sweet against the rich caramel malt backdrop, while those fruity esters really stand out as well, with a good spiciness, that could still be a bit more pronounced though.

Graby (87) - Aarhus, DENMARK - DEC 16, 2021
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2021 Draught at Aarhus Street Food Hazy amber with a frothy, long-lasting white head. Aroma is hoppy, slightly malty. Notes of citrus (lime?), warm spices, and a slight hint of banana. Taste starts slightly sweet, before rounding over in winy alcohol, ending in a very hoppy, bitter finish. Spicy notes. Texture is full, mostly oily, low to medium carbonation. 7-4-8-3-14

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2021 For real? First sip reveals... not a whole lot? Could I be that much of an American craft IPA-stout-whatever douchebag that the subtleties of this highly regarded ale is lost on me? I reserve judgement until finishing at least half... OK. 4/5ths gone. Yeah. Still... just... fine. That's it. Oh man, the Hype!

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2021 This is my go to Belgian ale as it is beautifully smooth and buttery and available in my local grocery store. It's great with food or on it's own. Doesnt seem to change flavour too much depending on what you eat with is rare with the stronger ales.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2021 Opened the bottle and the aroma promised so much. The appearance was what you would expect, slightly hazy with a fine head but I have to say (and I'm sorry), the taste was fucking awful. I like a lot of Belgian triples (especially Westmalle, Karmeliet, St Bernardus and Reinart) but this one is definitely not for me. Too bitter and left my tongue feeling like it had been sandpapered.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2021 Kolor złoty, wpadający w pomarańcz z delikatnym zmętnieniem. Piana biała, wysoka i bardzo trwała. Zbudowana z drobnych pęcherzyków, pozostawia sporo zdobień, jednak bez zdecydowanego krążkowania. Aromat słodowy, słodki z nutami przyprawowymi, drożdżowymi. Smak z wyraźną goryczką w kontrze do słodowej słodyczy. Pieprz, przyprawy i lekkie nuty owocowe stanowią kręgosłup w tym piwie. Wysycenie niestety wysokie, przeszkadza. Ciało średnie plus. Tekstura gładka. Posmak długi fenolowy, słodowy.
