This is more like a black IPA, or as they say a "robustly hopped" porter. Either way, seems like some sort of hybrid where the balance is skewed towards the citrusy/grapefruit flavors. The start is mainly hops, with some chocolate in the middle. The end is bitter hops, with some more chocolate on the finish. On the dry side like most of the Cigar City beers I've sampled. At first wasn't too sure if I liked the balance, but is growing on me during my 2nd sample. Going to save a few to share with my camping/beer buddy from Tampa...but may update this in the near future.

Finally opening this at a share, black beer, huge, almond colored head. Aroma is molasses, coffee, metal, raisin, smoke. Taste is smoke, coffee, chocolate, fig, currant, hint of citrus rind finish. Palate is rich and thick, carbonation subdued.

Black pour. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Quite outstanding nose of chocolate, light roast, caramel, molasses and a very light touch of char. In the background is a light floral hop note. Light full body that is quite smooth and silky, but not quite creamy, in texture. Outstanding carbonation / body balance with a mildly effervescent middle and a nice prickly finish. The flavor profile is world class. The higher hopping rate adds a new component to this already complex porter. It begins with roast that shifts to bakers chocolate just before the middle. The middle is buttressed by a rich caramel and molasses sweetness that makes the chocolate shine and shift from bakers to sweet chocolate. Here the hops also shine contributing a moderate bitterness and pine/grapefruit note. As the bitterness fades, the hop flavor shifts to light sweet fruit as the solid malt base sweetness ascends into the close. The finish is a delicious slow fade of chocolate and hops. A light char note lingers.

Dirty roast aroma, some messy herbal aspects to the hops. Taste also dirty. Roasty, but rough.

Tap sample at Tallinn Craft Beer Festival. Dark brown with persistent dark tan head. Sweetish roasty aroma, very pleasant, chocolate-cocoa, black rye bread and red berries, brandy and vanillaish notes even. Strong bitterness, but just enough to make all the rest livelier. Somewhat ashy dry. Excellent brew.

Tap @TCBW 2016. Pitch black color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Alcohol, dark chocolate, coffee, roast, sweet and woody in aroma. Dark chocolate, raisins, coffee, roast, woody and sweet in taste. Nice roasted chocolate malts in aftertaste. Drink is bit too cold at first, but as it warms up it’s getting even more tastier. Excellent brew. More!

On tap at TCBW 2016. Dark browne, almost black colour. Slight layer of beige froth on top. Very refreshing and fruity aroma - hints of apricots, citrusses and other tropical fruits. Juicy, apricoty and fruity beginning. Hints of coffee in the middle. Maltiness. Some caramel and slight sweetness in the end. Hoppes in the aftertaste. Slightly citrussy.
