ALLOVATE (3645) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - OCT 26, 2018
Into a snifter at cellar temperature. A gusher as it opened. Inky black with loose, audible, beige suds that dwindle rapidly. Aroma of heady alcohol spice (?), tarred vanilla bean, roasted cacao, salty kelp, minerals, smoke and light ash. Smoky and ashen on the palate. A good hint of floral musk lingers. Chalky but relatively thin for body. Smooth, though, as the carbonation is very low. Sweet cola and mocha front. Soft touch of roasted almond and cacao, bitter coffee bean. Not yielding of the body it needs to make it great. Also has a tainting chemical note that builds as the glass empties. Not having good luck with this brewer. Not appealing and flawed as a Foreign Extra Stout. Hmmm, a re-rate perhaps! (33cL The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Poured an opaque black showing a wide brown edge tint with a tan coloured dense foamy head that retained well and laced OK. Carbonation low, very slow and very fine. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with soft roasted notes and hints of alcohol. Taste of strong roasted grain, slightly sweet milk chocolate, sweet dried dark fruits with hints of vanilla and also a hint of alcohol. Medium body. Smooth, creamy and dry with a moderate sweetness on a moderately long finish.
