COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Formerly contract brewed by Brakspear.
Currently contract brewed at Hepworth for Beer Counter, under the supervision of Peter Scholey, former Brakspear head brewer.
The ingredients and abv are different to the CAMRA Supreme Champion cask ale which continues to be brewed by Coniston.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and crystal malt; Challenger hops - mainly at the end of the boil.

BLUEBIRD is a fine session ale with a light golden colour. The intense resinous and spicy hop character which is the beer’s hallmark is derived from the use of unusual quantities of English Challenger hops, each bale being individually and personally selected by the brewer. The malt is, of course, Maris Otter fermented slightly warm to give a soft fruitiness with a faint hint of scented geranium.

dragnet101 (2331) - Birmingham, West Midlands, ENGLAND - NOV 11, 2021
UPDATED: NOV 11, 2021 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a dark gold with small fluffy white head, nice retention and lacing. Aroma of grains, bread, citrus and spice. Taste is quite doughy and bready at first then citrus, grass and spice hop profile comes in finishing with some burnt toast and toffee notes. Nice balance between malts and hops here, fairly complex for a bitter. Light to medium bodied, slightly chewy. Excellent bitter.

theprof (3271) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - SEP 25, 2021
UPDATED: SEP 25, 2021 Pours golden body white diminishing lace. Aroma dominated by bread malt. Emphatically a bitter. Taste is lightly sweet but rapidly bitter as the Challenger hops take charge. Palate is medium bodied high carbonation which impacts both transition and finish . Mouth coating. I wish I could compare the cask version and is this a W Sussex score? Overall a good example of the style.

JorgeLee (2973) - Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 19, 2021
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2021 Bottle, Booths. Seems amazing I haven’t rated this! Clear amber colour. Feels like an old school bitter just peeping into the crafty world now, back then more revolutionary, balanced malty base, medium bitterness and just a hint of fruity hop. Supremely drinkable.

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2021 0,5l lahvové zakoupené přes slovenský internetový obchod drinkshop.sk. Docela průměrné anglické pivo. Na bitter to moc hořké teda není.

bertiebucket (91) - morecambe, Lancashire, ENGLAND - JAN 14, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 14, 2021 500ml bottle served in a barrel pint glass. Dark gold ale with a tight white head. Good head retention and lace on the glass. Malty flavour with a hoppy aftertaste. A good example of a traditional North Western English ale.

Martinsh (1348) - Crewe, Cheshire, ENGLAND - AUG 14, 2020
UPDATED: AUG 14, 2020 Bottle from local Asda. Nice aroma of biscuits, malt and a hint of lemon. Pours golden amber with a small transient white head. Medium carbonation. Malts and biscuit again in the mouth, but now with some bitter hoppiness, which lingers in the finish. A really good traditional bitter- it’s nice to have a beer which tastes of beer for a change !

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2020 Historical tick which I am adding as a rate so that I can see the impact it has on my stats. 500 Beers To Try Before You Die. Beers of Europe. Took a while to track this one down and then it was a case of, 'Oh... is that it?'
