Bitterbill (2959) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - DEC 21, 2017
From Sept 2008 I bought this bottle from South Bay D&L. Thanks Joey! It pours a hazy orange with a 2 finger head of foam. It leaves some nice sticky lacing but the head retention degraded as the session went on. The smell is fruity and spicy! I get notes of pear, lemon, some peach, coriander, clove, and an earthy yeasty tone. Nice and complex. The taste starts off both earthy and sweetish. The fruit plays it big here. Lots of pear and peach tops, with some apple, with a lemon twang that I find mostly in the finish. Plenty of spiciness as well with some big notes of ginger and lesser notes of pepper and clove. Underlining it all is an earthy yeasty presence. It has a light body, the carbonation is light, and it finishes slightly bitter and ginger spicy...a very dry finish. I can feel the alcohol after I finished my first pour but it doesn't show up in the smell nor the taste. Just some light warming after the swallow. Bottom line: I think this is a good example of a Saison, lots of fruity and spicy flavours going on but...and this is no slight to Coronado but, I think there is something about it that, well, doesn't inspire me to seek it out again. I can't really pinpoint my reason for saying that. Maybe too much fruit and/ or too much spice? Though I "will" finish this 22oz bottle, the more I sipped on it, the more difficult it became to take another sip. Maybe I just picked a bad time to pop the cap on this one...

aroma is citrus-y and slighty spicy, like gingersnaps almost. color is lovely light amber with a sticky fluffy head. flavor is somewhat grapefruit like, but not in a IPA way. its more like genuine grapefruit. some spicy notes similar to thai food i think? hard to put my finger on. has a zesty finish that only lasts for a couple of seconds and rinses away cleanly. very neat beer, more complex than i would have thought.

Bomber. Orange-gold color with a flimsy white head on top. The aroma is heavy on the mint; peppermint and spearmint, with some underlying tropical fruit and light saison yeast. The mint is featured in the flavor as well, but fortunately, the body is lighter than I feared. The overall profile is that of a minty herbal spiced tea. Not much funk at all. Normally I get sick of something like this quickly but this was pretty enjoyable throughout a couple glasses. It’s just dry enough and refreshing that the minty spice doesn’t ever seem to get overbearing even though that’s prety much all that’s going on.

From the 22oz bottle. Pours a hazy amber orange with a thick white head. Big ginger peppermint aroma. Light malt body, spicy Belgian notes, ginger spice in the taste. Good, but a bit too much spice.

Someplace in SD: Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is saison yeast, with ambiguous spice blends. Taste is somewhat dry. I think the brewer’s went a little overboard with the sugar. Has a sort of sewage like taste that some saisons do. This is an underwhelming example of the style.

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2012 Hazy copper bodied and grey head. Spicy, anise, citrus and biscuits. Taste is spicy as well. Nice carbonation. Taste is a bit too spicy for me and lacks a rustic body. Ginger to the bone. No thanks. (Bomber at Florida trip)

Suttree (7121) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 2, 2012
Murky orange, loose ring of foam. Over all, this is pretty simple and tasty. Not overly spicy, not overly sour, just simple grassy, yeasty flavors. Very satisfying...
