FACambridge (1122) - Chelmsford, Essex, ENGLAND - OCT 2, 2020
UPDATED: OCT 2, 2020 Aroma : Lightly toasted sweet caramel malt, light soft fruit hop notably melon with hints of honey & straw. Taste : Thinnish body. Moderate bitter hoppiness throughout, with a light sweet caramel malty backing coming through as it warms. Not horrible; just a bit boring

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2020 Cask at GBBF, Earl’s Court on 07/08/2009. A solid golden ale, with nice floral and herbal hops on the nose. One of the few breweries who really seemed to nail a solid golden ale.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2018 Bottle from the brewery shop, South Woodham Ferrers. Milky taste. More hops. Meh

Pours gold from the bottle. A thick, frothy white head clings to the glass and lingers. Aroma is a subtle blend of tropical fruits, but sweetish, more peach and honey mellon than citrus or pine. There’s also an odd hint of something I can’t quite place but reminds me of dishwashing liquid. Taste is mildly sweet, turning mildly bittersweet at the finish. Body is to the lighter side of medium, carbonation is mild. Overall, good.

Cask. Warning - this may be a dodgy sample. But the main "wonderful" thing about the aroma is its absence. It's lightly hoppy. Also it's a cloudy orange where others have had it clear and golden. The top is lace but fleeting. Fortunately, the taste is okay. Fruity, but with a pleasant and moderate bitterness. The texture is slick and the body medium to light. Carbonation soft and bitter finish. I have said my prayers.

Fra flaske spandert av Rune. Delt med ham i WC-veien 24 Apr 17. Gylden. Høyt tett skum som daler sakte. God fruktaroma. Smaken balansert. Mye malt men også innslag av plommer & fersken. Bra øl.

A 500ml bottle bought at Queens Head in Chelmsford and shared with Finn back home. A bright warm golden body. Stable white head. Spotty lacing. Modest aroma of floral hops. Well blended taste of leafy hops and restrained caramel malts. Rounded, drying bitter tail. Medium bodied. Classic British brew, nice and tasty (Tromsø 24.04.2017).

Cask Pint at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico, London in Feb 2010 - Pale yellowy gold. Citrus hoppy aroma. Very citrus-fruity (grapefruit, lemon & tropical fruits). Very hoppy (floral & grassy hops). Solid Malty base (sweet malts, caramel). Very citrus fruity hoppy throughout. Dry bitter hoppy finish. Wonderfully balanced; tangy citrus fruits, grassy hops, sweet malts. Enjoyed this a lot. Lovely beer. Nice pint! (2010-02)

Handpull cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. Deep gold, clear with almost no head. Smells vaguely of citrus and peaches but there’s a spicy/soapy hint. Very bitter throughout and not particularly balanced. The Amarillo hop is left to run rampant. Bitter soapiness in the long finish. It’s alright but quite messy. Too many problems to justify a higher score.

500 ml bottle, from Ales by Mail. ABV is 5.0%. Golden colour, low white head. Pleasant aroma of spicy and fruity Amarillo hops. The flavour is mid between sweet and dry, with juicy and spicy hops throughout.
